Thats my personal experience.the raquet played muted and there was not this uniqe vibration when hitting the ball.

After 2 months tennis playing with Wilson Clash 100 Tour/Pro (310g unstrung weight) with 1.25/17 Volkl Cyclone on 23/24...I can only say - I need to do some urgent change now:)
Basically:
- I'm wasting too much power while e.g. serving and the outcome is 30% weaker serve than I had it with Yonex Ezone DR98.
- If I don't do everything perfect (and I usually don't since I'm 3.5-4.0 recreational tennis player) - the balls are going too often out of the court 1-5 meters i.e. I cannot keep 5 balls within the court.
Not good control and wasting too much power for nothing...
- My backhand needs much more control & spin - otherwise it is pure disaster now, with Yonex it was just fine.

Can someone recommend anything to do now:) e.g. instead of Volkl Cyclone 1.25/17 on 23/24 - I think perhaps some thinner choice e.g. 1.18/1.20 on 21/22 only could be a game changer since now I'm really disappointed basically, my tennis game went down 40-50% after switching from Yonex Ezone DR98 (310g unstrung weight) with 1.25/17 Volkl Cyclone on 23/24 to Wilson Clash 100 Tour/Pro (310g unstrung weight) with 1.25/17 Volkl Cyclone on 23/24.
The only positive thing is larger sweet spot - nothing else...although Wilson Clash 100 Tour/Pro (310g unstrung weight) seems as more concrete and powerful racket for baseline hits

Why did you switch? I would try a more firm crisp string, something like Tourna Silver 7 tour.

What's your play style (grip, swing and spin amount)? What do you mean by wasting power? I'm currently very injured and my flat serve is the most powerful with the tour out of any racket I've used recently. I am around the same level you're at currently and had some of the issues you mentioned / hated the racket early on. It wasn't until right when I sold it that I was hitting consistently with it and truly enjoying it.

You really need to hit with heavy spin for this racket to be worth anything. 16 gauge may be better and stringing in the mid 40's but for most people hating or having problems with this racket, it's because you need a certain stroke and play style to make it shine.

After 2 months if you don't want to change your play style or haven't figured out the racket, it may be safe to say it's just not the best option for you which is completely fine. I'd recommend trying out the 16x19 blade as it may take care of all your problems and has simliar specs to the DR.

I’ve never paid much attention to the Clash hype. At the they were released, I was happy with my Prince Beast LB (Bisner).
But these “power” rackets never were my vibe. I come from Prostaff 90, then RFA97, went back to my old Prostaff 6.1 classic (for about 2 years) had a brief love-hate relation with a Burn95 CV and moved to the Bisner.
After two months of confinement, with no tennis whatsoever, I’ve resumed tennis with the Bisners but I lost fitness and mass and started developing an elbow pain. I also couldn’t control anymore the massive power of the Bisner or even its weight.
So I moved to Yonex VCORE 98+ and begun a new love-hate relationship. Besides, the strange flex of the frame was hurting even more my elbow and so I was desperate for a more arm friendly solution.
Went to my bag and pulled an Angel TC97 and although unforgiving, It was working.
This week went to play match with a friend which is a solid 5.0 that plays with a Clash 100. I used to sometimes beat him, but this year has been just solid defeats on my side. Since he started playing with the Clash (he had the tour first but the weight hurt the wrist and sold them to get the regular) his tennis skyrocketed. He loves the frame.
So, I went to play with him, me with the Angel and he with the Clash and I started loosing the first 2-6. But I fought back and when I was 5-3 on the second, my racket handle broke near the butcap. I tried to play with it just the same but couldn’t get any stability on my game and he recovered and then it was 6-6. At that point he asked me if I wanted to play with the other Clash he had.
All of a sudden I was testing the clash in gameplay ( traded a few balls before to get a bit the feeling of it). Although was light as a toy it felt great on impact. I was immediately addicted to that feel. We resumed the game with the tie break and I started serving bombs with that thing. Won the set and the match carried on to a decisive super tie break. My game grew even more and won the super 10-2 and the match.
It was love at first hit. The feel is addictive, the power is immense, slices are daggers, enough control to give me confidence and no pain in the elbow or shoulder.
The Clash 100 is a great racket but it lacks too much weight for me to play with it but is surprisingly stable.
Bottom line, I had to pull the trigger for 2 of the Tours that I will extend to 27,5” and probably customize. Just hope it behaves like the regular and the difference is only weight and swingweight.
What a revelation!!!

My Clash Tours are here (now called Pro). Beautiful sticks and feel great in the hand. I’ve strung them with head hawk white (1.30) at 22kg (48lb) which was the same setup I’ve tried with my friend’s Clash 100 and really liked it, although never tried before.
They feel a little heavier from what I recalled the 100’s felt. I weighted them strung and to my surprise, one weighs 310g and the other 315g. In the spec sheet was supposed to weight 310g unstrung but I’m getting that strung. Besides, there is a 5g difference. What’s wrong with Wilson? There is no QC whatsoever.

Anyway, they’re already in the bench ready to be extended. I’ll try them tomorrow and will see if they need further customization. Can’t wait to test them.
Probably will add 5g at 11, 12, 1 to make it less headlight and bring up the swingweight.
Anyone tried this on the tour?

1-2%difference not too bad.... and honestly i think i prefer if they defer a bit. What is hard is when they have the same weight but not the same balance. Its a different challenge to get them the same. I ordered two Clash, only one arrived. I asked for the lightest in store (306g) in preparation of my other order that might be heavier. I hope its going to be easy to just get them to match. I still hope its not 315 ! now thats a bigger difference.

Fortunately, the balance wasn’t that apart. Ended extending the first, the swingweight bumped up a bit although still plenty headlight. This configuration feels good, but have to test it on court. Will do it tomorrow. As soon as I am pleased with the customization, I’ll match the other one.
Let us know about the differences of both yours. You bought the tour or the regular? From the weight you’ve mentioned, I believe it’s the regular one

I have the Tour(306g). I also had the regular weighted to the Tour specs but my father uses it now. To me they felt the same. I would see a bigger difference on the strings than racquet.

I did the manual swingweight calculation and my Tour is about that 320-322. Balance 31.5.

I'll match the lighter one to the next one coming. Hoping it's just a matter of weight at 12 and in handle.

Give it some time to get used to that different feel and I'm sure you'll like it. My style is all about baseline consistency so I don't really buy the erratic comments about the Clash. I definitely know what I did wrong when it goes out. On the other side it's a personal thing and for sure other racquets could give you more precision and feel. Like your friend who progressed quickly probably found his groove with the Clash.

Hey, Tks for your insights.
I’m still puzzled with the weight. Didn’t weight mines unstrung but to be 310g and 315g strung I assume it unstrung one close to yours and the other more in line with the announced.
The erratic comments on the Clash did threw me away from it, I confess. Fortunately I had a chance to try one and I do love the comfort a feel on impact. The control worked for me against my friend but he plays with intensity and produces a heavy ball. I wonder how it will behave against opponents with less pace.
I’m an all court type of player, with a flatter 2hbh. Do you feel confident to go for the lines with the tour?
I’ll come back with my thoughts after I play test it tomorrow. Tks

Oh, I thought yours were strung! Mine at 306 is unstrung. It's 330g strung with OG and dampener. I think my regular was 312-313 strung.

I was going to add to my previous message I don't really go for the lines. I am more of a baseliner (because I'm not too confident for now at net) that likes to move people without going for the lines. If I can get someone to move 3-4 steps everytime it'll pay off since I like long rallies. Maybe with my ultra I went a bit more for the lines. I do have a decent depth control with the Clash. I had a bit of a flat 2hbh and the Clash helped me there, I always said it was the best racquet for the backhand. Now with time I put more spin on it.

Let me know how you find the Clash at the net. My issue is me hehe... I just need to soften the hands and stay on my toes which is always harder when lacking confidence. The racquet is really stable and doing much of the work for me.

Oh yes, those numbers are for strung racket.
If you say your is 306 unstrung is 4g bellow advertised unstrung Weight. I can extrapolate that mines, unstrung, should had more or less the same of the one you already have.
The one I now extended weights, with two overgrips and Sampras dampener, 325g (bare in mind I’ve removed the cushion grip that came with it...that is heavy) it’s a little bit less headlight which is a good thing for me.

I’ll be on court later today and will share my thoughts.

So I’m back from the court and played for about 1h and 30m. Traded balls and some points.
Unfortunately I was not very happy with the racket. It lacked weight and the stringbed felt too boardy with this setup. Nothing similar to the experience I previously had with the 100.
The positives are the obvious power, serves really well, specially the kick serves, although I could serve a few bombs as well but not with the same consistency as with the 100. Control was better than I expected.
I felt really connected on my 2hbh but not so with my forehand.
We played with new balls and felt like bricks on the stringbed. This string is stiff and thick but I wasn’t expecting to feel it as boardy as I did, specially because I tested the 100 with the same setup and felt good. Maybe the tension had already dropped on that 100 and my strings are new and didn’t break yet.
Yet, I still believe it can deliver, so I’ll add 5g from 11 to 1 and 5g at 3&9 and will try it again. I’ll try to make the tension drop a bit as well.

So, first out didn’t wow me at all. I’m disappointed but not broken. Wednesday I played so much better with my old six.one 95 18x20 but will insist with the clash to see where will it take me.

Ah almost forgot, as the racket is very stable, Volleys are great and slices nice as well

Something unbelievable happened
Added 10g of tungsten at 3&9, stretched the stringbed leaving weight overnight and racket completely transformed itself.
Became super comfortable and plush, very predictable and addictive. OMG can you believe it?
What a great racket it has become, I’m freakin loving it. Connected from all areas of the court, specially on my backhand. Much, much better on my forehand but still having trouble opening the court on my forehand cross court.
Unbelievable! What the hell happened here? What a racket

How do you stretch the string bed?

That is enough weight to change the feel and timing. Good on you that it clicked. It's a great racquet. I am still trying to find more angles but that is on me getting a feel for it. I've won some matches lately against great competition so things are working, just looking to add more weapons to the game.

I wish I could always have a video of me playing good and bad. I bet there are more things that went correctly but your setup probably made you confident, you liked the feeling and was probably enjoying yourself.

I stretch the stringbed like Borg used to do, placing my foot on the strings and pressing it slowly near the edges and knots. Also left some weight over it overnight.

What clicked me was the addictive feel and maybe because of that I was moving more to be on time so I could get more and more of that, if this makes any sense.

On my 2hbh I was grooving and had a kind of invencible feeling...I just could do about everything to open angles, drive through, slices, you name it.
Volleys were also amazing, I thought I had my RFA97 on my hands. It was crazy and I just couldn’t believe it was the same racket.

I definitly know what you mean. I also find little things can lead to bigger things in tennis. It's to find those little things that make you smile(smiling relaxes muscle I find) and hyped up(I get better footwork and stay low). I've had that feeling this week playing good everyday (came back to old strings, addicted to that feel with clash) until the body said enough of this I'm out!

10g at 3-9 is like 20sw points I am guessing. It makes sense to me what you are saying on volleys and BH. I find even if my forehand is my best shot the BH can tolerate more weight or play better when tired.

Yeh, with that weight and stretched racket the SW must be around 345/350 which is something I enjoy and feel comfortable with. I feel it mostly on serves in the beginning of a set (while I’m not warm enough) and on a third set (when I’m tired). But it works for me and for my confidence.
I’ve been suffering from TE and that might be also the reason why my forehand is not in the same level. But one good thing I feel less stress on the elbow hitting with this racket.
Can’t wait to be on court again.

Received a 2nd Tour. 2grams off of my other one. I ordered the first online and was able to pick the weight. I asked for the lighter one at 306g unstrung. So when the next one arrives which will probably heavier will be easier to match Now this new one is lighter but only 2grams probably in the handle to match the balance. Not bad at all!

Extra info, the store that offered me to pick weight had 306g, 308g,309g as options. They couldn't give me the balance.

What do you guys string at, if I came from 60lbs what's the effective equivalent for the Clash

Like the idea. Just as You, I've only seen Unstrung Customs picture of an 18x20 prototype (?).

18x20 with 8 main bridge grommet (hate those 18 main posers where the additional mains are just squeezed outsider the center) should be interesting IMHO.

Sorry, I should have been more specific:rolleyes:, from a technology standpoint I am not sure what they could update.

Plenty. Tweak the mold, the layup, taper the beam, etc. It's straight up graphite - knowing what kevlar does for other frames, what do you think it could do for the Clash? My Nokia 8210 was the pinnacle of mobile phone technology, what could they possibly update?

Been playing with the Clash 98 for a couple of months now and really liking the frame. Previous racquet history: Radical graphene xt S, Pure Aero 2016, Pure Strike PO7, Blade CV 16x19, Blade v7 16x19. (Also brief playing time with the DR98, DR100, textreme tour 100t, Pro Staff CV, Pure Strike 100 gen 3). Really liked the PO7 but unfortunately I got TE after using it for 8 months. Maybe the frame or maybe due to bad technique and old string job... Either way moved on to the Blade CV and really liked the feel (despite the general opinion on this forum), felt really solid with good control although power and spin was slightly less then PO7. Bought a v7 after good reviews and to have two similar frames since I thought my racquet quest had come to an end... All the hype around the Clash got my interested and I was starting to miss some free power so when I got a good deal on a used Clash 98 I could not resist. I had also moved away from poly to multi (velocity) in my blades due to lingering elbow pain but felt that my performance suffered so was hoping the Clash would enable me to go back to poly. So far my elbow feels better with the Clash, even with poly, and I feel it suits my playing style (baseliner) better then the blades.

But power is addictive so when I got a good deal on a used Clash 100 Pro I once again could not resist... Still waiting to receive it, will be interesting to compare. Reading the reviews the general opinion seems to be that the regular 100 is preffered over the 100 Pro. However the main complaint for the regular 100 seems to be that it lacks weight and stability which seems a bit contradictive...

Also looked like Jason has moved on from the PO7 to the Clash (modified regular version) which further triggered my interest.
@TW Staff, Jason would really appriciate if you could give some feedback comparing the PO7 with the Clash? What modifications have you made to the 100? Have you had a chance to try the 100 Pro/98 and if so what made you pick the reg 100?

I've a couple of friend's having wrist and shoulder issues. I was wondering how you folks who have used this stick for a while now feel about me suggesting such a frame to them.
In other words, who here with arm issues has used it and noticed a marked difference?

My body hurts everywhere except on wrist and elbow... if that can help you ? I,ve been putting some good time on the court (always full poly).
My father (67) who also has the clash says his elbow does not hurt anymore.

Sry to hear about your body :( If it's any consolation, I had mild rickets for a long time before I got diagnosed with woefully low vit D.

Playing with alternating Clash 98s, one with Element 16g @ 47# and the other ALU Power @ 47#. Love ‘me both, but for different reasons. I have had TE in the past - but can play day after day with the Clash 98, full bed poly...no worries. It’s pretty amazing.

I made the switch from Wilson Revolve Twist 17 at 46 lbs to Solinco Confidential 17 at 48lbs in my Tour. I'm only 3 hours into the Confidential but it's feeling great on my arm and gives me more feel and control. It just feels right. I think I'll stick with this setup for a while.

So, I'm seeing that there seems to be an opinion the 98 is a very different stick from the 100, and not just in the typical way 100's and 98's might differ?

Just went on to play a match with Volkl cyclone Tour 16(1.3) @52. Well appreciated by @g4and his clients. Went well, long warmup , felt good power precision, feel. Great first set I was hitting well, some long deuce points. 2nd set not as good but I blame my footwork. So a positive for the first 2h30 of hitting.

Now I think the real test is always the hours after the first few hits. I think I'll be back on the court.

So far I appreciate Tour bite soft 17(1.2) @52... but I have a few strings in stock to test.

Anyone else tried VCT 16 in the Clash?

They should have made the "Pro" model a 16x20 or 18x19. Then keep the standard model 16x19 but increase the weight to 300g to address its weaknesses.

That way you'd have something that appeals to the recreational crowd, yet allow for some differentiation within the range, and a heavier racquet with a less lairy string pattern.

Any problems launching it long more than usual? Was looking at the Tennis warehouse string db and the softest + spinniest string around 40 lbs of tension was the Cyclone tour (in terms of big name etc). Haven't been able to try it myself yet but didn't know if it would be too powerful/soft in this frame at that tension based on what I've been told about the string.

I like it so far ! 5 hours with it now. I should do a fair comparison and in the same session hit with my clash that has tour bite soft. Played good again yesterday with it. I was finding nice angles when I was being aggressive. Swinging confidently... but strings are a small part of the equation, for sure. I"ll get back to you after a small comparison.

Did you check for the 16 gauge version ? Just to be sure, thats the one I am using. I strung it at 52 on my machine. I've got other strings that I have in stock that I want to test as well.

Another vote for that string on the 98 clash thread
I don"t think soft strings are a problem in the clash. Try volkl cyclone tour 1.30 (nothing less) at around 52lbs. Easy 16hrs of play.
Power spin touch feel.. very predictable.

I don<t know I kind of like the Tour like it is. I am sure they could come out with another model that has a tighter pattern but the combo of spin and power gives good control, I find.

That's why I said increase the weight of the standard version. That way it can cater for the 'Tennis Spin' level of player whereas the heavier 310g say 18x19 model can cater for the 'Troll Tennis' level of players.

Describe more accurately, these two levels of player please, as I want to know who I am, or if I'm no one.

What's a troll tennis level player ?

I was referring to the respective YouTube channels. Both good channels, just aimed at slightly different demographics (though Tennis Spin's racquet spec videos are fantastically useful for players of any level):
