I had both string patterns in 330gms 12 pts headlight. I customized them to 310gms 9 pts headlight and like the lighter setup a lot. I loved the extra kick and topspin I got from the 16x19 but the control from the 18x20 is at another level. I am currently playing with the 18x20 although I feel its kinda demanding at times especially on my off days.

Update on the racquets:

TC95 18x20 - 369g static (started 330g, 305mm)
TC97 18x20 - 363g static (started 330g, 310mm)
TC95 16x19 - 353g static (started 310g, 320mm)
TC97 16x19 - 355g static (started 320g, 315mm)

I posted this in the Prince Official thread, as someone was asking me to compare my newly received TC100 against the Prince Phantom Pro 100P (1st version) that I used to play.

Here's my response:

"... I did get a hit this morning with an old mate who's also a coach, so I got to test the TC100. Mostly groundstrokes, no serve and only a few volleys, so it's limited but I think I got a good feel for it. My specs are 63 RA / 310g / 315mm / grip C (similar to Prince), so this is very similar to the 100P, seeing that the RA on the Angell is unstrung and typically drops by 3-4 points once strung, putting it around 59-60.

Initial impressions:
- very plush, but at the same time feels very solid at impact, which I attribute to the foam filled structure
- massive sweet spot, much larger than the original PP100P
- no harshness whatsoever even on off-center shots, and very stable too
- launch angle similar to that of the PP100P, so quite high. That's OK, I need net clearance
- surprising amount of pop on the ball - more than any of the Phantom's I've tried

I'm really happy with this, and I think it should complement my game quite well. I'm eager to do a few serves as well, to see if the power on groundstrokes translate there too. This was my biggest knock on the original PP100P, I was missing punch both on first serves and kick serves, which is my best shot."

When I play more with it, I will come back here to report.

Thanks for the helpful advice! I ended up just adding a leather grip and a touch of tungsten putty in the trap door instead of messing with the weights in the pallets. My TC95 18X20 is now 353g strung and 8.5 pts head light. A bit heavy, but still amazing!

New question: my TC95 16x19 and 18x20 have a slightly different sound on contact. I like the sound of the 16x19, but LOVE the sound of the 18x20! Is the difference in sound normal? Or is it just the strings? (both poly, but different brands and different tensions between the two racquets)

Thanks!
16x19 racket will sound different than 18x20 regardless of the brand, 16x19 should be little high pitch where 18x20 being a dense pattern will have more deep sound.
Different tension with 2 different poly will make difference also.

I received 2 more TC 95 18x20 310gms today that I bought from @Pneumated1

I couldn’t resist and strung up one racquet with black Knight 17 at 52 lbs. I am going to try the gut poly setup that came with the second racquet so leaving it in there for now. Although I had the TC 95 already, I never gave it a good chance. played with it just one day and actually liked it a lot. But for some reason I just stuck with the TC 97 18x20, then 16x19 and back to 18x20. Hoping to give these racquet a good try and see how I like them compared to the Tc 97 which I have been playing with almost 6 months.

now I have 4 Tc 95s, 5 Tc 97s and a k7 lime. And these are just Angells. I have a bunch of racquets posted in the for sale section. Take a few off my hands so I can buy/try more racquets :-D

Right guys, I'm all ready to pull the trigger on a pair of TC97 with the following specs:

310g 9pts HL
16X19

One question I have though is about strings. Have any of you guys tried the recommended Angell hybrid strings? I'm thinking about trying the halo spin and touch combo.

If not, what strings are you generally using with your TC97?

Thanks again guys.

Going thru a pretty extensive string playtest myself with my TC97 18x20s.

Favorites so far are Head Lynx Tour and Volkl Cyclone. I would get 16g for for 16x19

Got the idea to put Ytex Quadro Twist in the TC97 on here from @topspn and for me it’s perfect. Should definitely try that out.

Thanks guys. I'll try those options.
Been playing the Tc97 16x19 for 4 years now. Frame is not string sensitive, so worth trying what you have used before.
I’ve used the following & all play great.
Weiss cannon scorpion
Tier 1 black night
Head lynx edge (stiffer than the other 2 polys, but great bite on ball.
Also TC97 plays great with hybrids like synth gut or Babolat origin in crosses.

Another question when considering the TC 97 18x20. My Head LiquidMetal Radical is weighted 11.2oz/318g 4 pts head light at 13 inches. I'm debating what weight to get the TC 97. I put 2.5" of lead at 3, 9 and 12 o'clock on my LMR, so adding approx. 3 grams total.

Any suggestions on the head light portion of the weighting?

If this spec is unstrung, I would get the 310g weight and either 320mm or 325mm balance (7 or 6pt HL). Once strung your racket will weigh apx 335g and be around 3 or 4pt headlight.

If you want the option of adding lead to the hoop, which may not be needed because the racket will already be stable at close to 12oz, then go with the 300g instead so you have some room to work with.

TC 95 18x20 would be a closer match. TC97 is actually 96 or 97 sq.inch vs 95 of LM

One last thing. The weight you order will be the weight you get, no matter what your grip choice is.

In other words, if you order a 310g racket with a leather grip it will weight 310g. Same as if you order a 310g with a synthetic grip.

The difference is that if you CHANGE your base grip from the original the bare racket will weigh different because leather grips are heavier than synthetic.

If you remove a leather grip from a 310g Angell the frame will probably weigh around 290ish grams. If you remove an original synthetic grip from a 310g Angell the bare frame would weigh around 295g.

Bottom line, try and pick the base grip you prefer, and then stick with it. If you're really OCD order a few extra so you don't have to pay shipping twice.

I would highly recommend ordering extra if you get their regular synthetic base grip. It seems to fray and tear if you use the little sticker to secure overgrips so I stopped using the sticker and just made sure to securely wrap my overgrips instead.

Second hit today with the TC100 63RA / 310g / 315mm, which confirmed the first impressions: there is no harshness whatsoever to this frame, no matter where I hit on the stringbed. As long as I keep a relaxed hand and wrist, the power achieved is quite impressive. Did a few serves, most of which went long, so I will have to work more on dialing in that shot and taming that power. Altogether, this is a very impressive frame, and I will order a couple more before the fall season starts (hopefully) in Hong Kong. I have another couple of sessions this week, will try to do more serve / volley to see how that goes.

Yeah but the LM is box beam and the TC95 is D beam. Hence probably why TC97 is a closer match to the LM.
suppose the TC95 and TC97 (and K7) are very close in headsize, as they the grommets are interchangeable. Lol

I’ve been wondering about whether or not the weight of the leather grip was included - thanks for clearing that up! (y)
I put a piece of ordinary sticky tape on the base grip which I then attach the sticker on the overgrip to which helps to mitigate the ripping problem.

Review of my Angell 101 Extended version:
Hi all, just wanted to post a review of my Angell 101 after playing with it for a 3rd time.
I am beginning to dial in with my shots and hit it deep, even mishits for me seem to land in and with spin. What I am most impressed about is the slices on it. It really penetrates and stays low which I found hard to do with my Yonex DR98+ racket. Serving also seems to give me more power and great accuracy. It is also very comfortable. So far I am loving this racket. Will post more updated once I have played with it more.

Perhaps a long shot, but I am very interested in angell frames but I would like to try them before buying. Does anyone know if it's possible to demo these somewhere? Otherwise I live in the DMV area and if someone nearby has one to try I'd make it worth your while

Well, I just bought myself another K7 Red. I had one last year but the L4 grip was a little large. Bought L3 this time. I always love my Angells but There is always something that makes me turn away from them...
I have tried them all. I will give the K7 Red a chance againt my V7 Blades and against my Ultra Tour.

I also really enjoy the K7 Red and have 2 of them that weigh within a gram of each other. I am selling my Blades as the more I play with them I realize how erratic the control is and they are not geared for my topspin game. The K7 Red is a bit lower in the power department to the Blade but has a more consistent feel with not hot spots like the Blade. The K7 Red is easier to use than the Blade and can generate heavy spin. My only real issue is the power level. They will always remain in my bag but I am now hooked on the 2020 Prince Phantom 100p. This racquet does it all across the board and has brought my spin and power game alive.

Isn't that with every frame the case? :)

Last year you recommended me the UT and since then I am playing with them. Great feeling rackets after I customized them but I still wish some things like a bit easier access to spin and more free points by more powerful serves,...

Recently I played with a TC95 16x19 63RA (348 grams strung with Pacific Poly Power Pro 1.25mm and 31,9cm balance) and I can already say it seems a very promising frame. It feels more versatile than my TC95 18x20 and UT. Serves also feel more aerodynamic as well that might have something to do with the D-beam and the slightly thinner beam. The feel of the TC95 63RA is also familiar to me and top-notch as I have been playing several years with the TC95 18x20.

However I am not sure if it surpasses the addictive feel of the UT.

Hi Gee! My fellow holic! I have been thinking about you the past few days! I have come full circle und play the ultra tour again now as my main racket. It is just the most reliable for my game somehow. I had sold all of mine and added lead to the new one I just got. 6grams @12 and 3 grams @6/9 and it kills the ball. Most importantly, I can trust the frame. The control is out of this world and it does everything very very well without big deficits. And I can string it very low (full bed of poly around 20kg).

I am a flat hitter, not a loopy topspin hitter and I create my own power. So far I havent been able tame the power and sometimes launch angle of the 16x19 Angells. I tried stringing the TC100 at 23kg which is high for me, but still coulndt really tame it. And I dont want to put the stiffest polys in there.

I found the K7 red 2nd hand and want to give angells another chance. The good thing about the K7 red might be that it is relatively low powered. It might come close to an ultra tour in 16x19.

After searching for a replacement for my TC95 18x20s and actually buying and testing a bunch of frames (UTs, K7 Lime, TF40 305s), I've come full circle and settled on the UT. I sold the Lime and am currently trying to sell the TF40s (great racquets but just a little too deviant in balance and geometry for me, but a fun play test).

I just purchased a 'quiver' of used UTs and will probably pick up a pair of TC95s in octane at some point, probably in 18x20 ... unless Paul creates the coveted TC98 first.

Yes the control and feel of the UT is just sublime that it makes difficult to switch to another frame!

A few years I purchased 2 TC100s after one demo session as I was blown away by the serve power but I also lost (too much) control during rallies compared to TC95 18x20. Even with WC Silverstring at 25/24 kg.

I am not sure if the K7 Red will be a UT 16x19. Last year I also played with K7 Lime and I think it has a total different more muted feel than the TC line and UT. Many people seem to love that softer muted feel but I don't. Due to those dampening aramid fibres I don't feel the ball as well as with the TC95 or UT. Maybe I am just too much used to the more direct feel of the TC95 and UT.

The UT was the first and most obvious choice when I started looking outside of my TC95s. I admit that I was a bit shortsighted to sell my TC95s, but now I'm working in reverse, so landing back on the TC95 is probably inevitable at some point. We're all boomerangs in the hands of Paul Angell, lol.

Maybe something really low powered like Yonex Poly Tour Spin...but those broncos are really hard to tame.

YPTS seems to have a stiffness of 237. Way too stiff to my taste. I guess I'll get a very sore arm from that string. Besides I already sold the TC100s.

Hey Angell users. I've having difficulty trying to find a racket with a nice plush buttery feel but with decent power. I used to enjoy using Head Liquidmetal lines before being produced in China and also Tecnfibre Tfight 320 Vo2 Max.
I've been eyeing the k7 red and wanted to see how the power level on this racket is. Is there decent power? Not overly powerful like Pure drive/Aero but not lacking too much power like a prestige or TF40

Plays alright for my sensitive arm, definitely in the league of Kirschbaum Pro Line 2 (maybe that one is on the stiffer side, too?). Muted and low powered. Moot point...just fyi.

I once tried Luxilon Big Banger Ace (with a stiffness of 203) that gave me painful hits into my underarm with every stroke. I guess strings like MSV CoFocus (186) are the stiffest ones I can bear.

I have a pair of K7 Reds and can tell you that this racquet is on the lower power side. A similar comparison would be the Wilson Blade and I would say that the K7 Red has a little less power but much better spin potential and is more forgiving along with a more consistent feel. There is also room for customization. This frame forces you to work the points as you will not get any easy winners. It is really a nice offering from Angell.
