Racquet Matching Help Needed

Hey all, I have two racquet's I am trying to match and need some advice. The sticks weigh 341g and 355g, both are balanced the same, 13 pts hl(unstrung). My question is, where is the best place to add weight to bring the lighter one up to the heavier one? I know the standard procedure is to place the weight on the throat, but putting 14g there seems excessive, could I split the weight up and put it evenly on both sides of the balance point? Ideally I would like to match the swingweight as well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

sparkys4,
i assume that the two sticks are different models? if that is so, i wouldn't really go to the trouble of balanceing them (14g is really a lot), simply because they would still play quite different, even if they had close specs like stiffness, headsize, stringpattern, etc.

fgs,
No, these are the same frame, same grip size, same grip, they were even bought at the same time. 14g seems like a lot to me, but I need to make these the same so I can switch between them without having to make changes in my strokes. They are Prince Diablo Mids if you wanted to know.

no wonder !

i bought my Diablo MP based on trying my friend's one. The result is my racket swing absolutely differently from hers. That's Prince today. Don't bother to see what new frames they have these days. It's history for me.

Back to your mission (if possible), u need to have an RDC to measure the SW. Or u can rely on your feel (it's the most important factor, but not easy to do). I am trying to customize my racket too. i guess to add 14 g or more to a racket, u better spray it all over. rather than sticking it to the Balance point or half to butt/handle, half to upper hoop, because u can keep its balance but not its feel either way. (and they can feel very differently even if you can achieve similar Balance, wt and SW !)

That's why i said it's almost mission impossible. U need to spray it over and have a lot of test with your feel.

sparky4,
14g on the same stick is really quite a bloody damned lot. in another thread there was a debate about quality control with wilson because three sticks were within 7g deviation.
that 14g is really quite a lot and it will be really very difficult to tune them properly because balancewise you can get that fixed quite fast, but that does not guarantee that you'd still have the same dynamic behaviour = swing. this looks like you'd better try to find someone with an rdc machine, because in the end you'd like to have them behave the same way when you swing them at the ball, not when you put them on a scale.

Personally, I would try to return them. If the actual weight is that different from the advertised weight then that qualifies as defective in my book. Even if you have been playing with them for a while, if you noticed that they felt different and you weren't able to weigh them until now, I still think that you should be able to return them, or at least the one that weights the furthest from the advertised weight.

american templar makes a really good point - can't you try and return one of the sticks to the shop you bought them from and try to get another one, at least closer weightwise, like say some 4-5g? that is a weight you can much more easily balance, because the dynamic differences would not be so very big.

I've actually had these sticks for awhile, I had elbow surgery to remove bone chips and played with a different setup after the surgery. I went back and played with the Diablo mid and foound I hit the best ball with this racquet. I do know someone with an RDC machine, so I'm going to give that a try and see how I make out. Thanks for the help.

**** in New York will do them as will Racquetmaxx in Alabama. Racquetmaxx is 40.00 per racquet according to there website.

I'd still give it a shot with Prince, with a 14g difference odds are that one of them is outside the weight range nominated for the racquet...
