Head, the paint job masters, are reaching new heights in their desire to deceive! Today I got the UK Ace magazine and saw an ad for the new Head Radical featuring Andy Murray hitting with it. From the picture it looks as if the racquet has been Photoshopped into his hand, begging the question, has he ever even held one of them!! Clearly he hasn't been using one on court competitively (or in practice on the basis of a recent feature with the BBC Inside Sport programme).

I think Head have lost the plot on raquet marketing, I really do. They register an integrity score of zero!

Head have been doing that for years with Agassi and the which ever of the latest Radical that they were promoting.

Are you sure, I can't recall them ever photoshopping a radical into agassi's hands, he was always one of the first to get the new pj's.

Also as a fyi, I've seen Murray with a Flexpoint pj so maybe he HAS held one but won't change

Listen to what Paul says, nothing new. I remember when the Liquid Metals were first being introduced that Head photoshopped several images in their promotions of Andre having an LM Rad in hand...only they forgot to "put on" a bumper guard.

Dude, people are stupid and will buy th latest thing on the market. When people become seduced by a sport, they try to do everything they can to get better

just got a hold of a new radical... pretty sweet. won't be here till mid summer though. no flexpoint technology, i wonder why!

check any old Agassi Head advert just when they're releasing the new Radical. Especially look at the pic where his hands are holding onto the grip.

I see what you're saying, but I don't think it is that stupid really. I've said before that I defy anyone to try (in a meaningful way) all the racquets and strings on the market. Attempting to emulate a player you like, or would like to play like isn't really so silly. I feel (and it may only be a perception but what else is there!?) that I've improved by (a) learning the pros' shots (b) increasing the weight of racquet I use to match a typical (real) pro spec (c) using strings that many of the pros use (d) using an overgrip that quite a few pros use.

So I think using the pros as a filter for gear is reasonable. It's just that it becomes corrupted if you trust the companies to give you the information!

I guess he is in the middle of negotiating a new contract w/ Head and one of the sticking points is that he needs to be at least playing with a frame that is painted with the new technology. Apparently he is a pain to deal with!

Dude it is the overgrip for sure that puts you over the top! I think you are sounding silly. To try and emulate the pros is a ridiculous way to learn. Look at Steffi Graf... If any rec player hit the ball behind them the way she does on her forehand they would kill the player on the next court!

On the head USA page there is this new Radical contest or something and there is a pic with Agassi and the Microgel Radical...I just laughed when I saw it.

to the OP, they've used this marketing strategy a number of times in the past. in fact, some of the new wilson strings feature images of federer from '05 using the K factor (seems ridiculous when there are plenty from this year!), but I definitely agree that they look silly.

on a side note, Buckeye10s, I'm sorry but you're very wrong. emulating the pros is a great way to learn how to improve your strokes, given that they are the best tennis players there are. You picked one exception in a huge list of strokes that can be emulated. One kind of has to know which pros they should emulate, that I'll admit, but say you're looking to improve your volleys. Tim Henman would be a great pro to emulate, since he has very textbook volleys. in fact, if you are a classical sort of player, one could argue that you can emulate ALL his strokes, since they are ALL very textbook. However, you certainly can't emulate all of the strokes of every player, because almost all of them have some technical deficiency in at least one of their strokes.

So Buckeye, if you're trying to say that you shouldn't emulate the strokes of a pro just because he or she is your favorite player, i totally agree. But modeling the strong points of a good player is certainly a good way to learn.

I looked at the ad, I don't get the big deal. It's a big garish artistic ad, and he is a head sponsored player. It's not as if it's a real-shot of wimbledon or whatever and they're showing him playing a match with it! This, for me, is zero on the scandalous scale, where paintjobs themselves are much higher...

we know he has held PJs of the latest flexpoint. that is not what this thread is about.

what we wanna know is whether or not he has ever held a true flexpoint, even just to pose for an advertising photo.
