Well, it’s been 3 years since I opened my Lounge. With inflation, COVID, etc.....I’m going to have to raise my prices a bit. It’s not easy running a beautiful tropical seaside resort with top billing entertainment each and every day.
Keep posting, keep playing. I’ll supply the fantasy of previous youth we used to have. The women, the wine, the amazing shots be it down the line or cross court that our opponents couldn’t get to.......ahh.....let Us gloat, reminisce, and embellish our accomplishments.

Carry on my friends. I’m still kicking young guys arses and laughing.

Long time no see... Not much tennis lately, twice - sorry, three times during the summer.

More over it seems to be someone sending me signs to slow down as I just bought s new toy. A golfboard, an electric skateboard type of golf scooter shipped from China.

Anyway after a couple of successive rounds I found the driving characters to be really unstable at higher speeds on turf as well, but especially on gravel paved paths...

And ofcourse the board wobled twice before drifting sideways and I became a flight passanger with a rough landing onto my left side. Ukemi style parashute landing rolling over from left to right, but since the occurence was most unexpected and quick the ukemi became a touch too squareish.

Hit my pinky on the first joint making first contact with the ground and cut it deep down to the tendons. Second hit was even more violent and now on the shoulder. Broke my collar bone in four parts and the inner stud peaked ugly underneath the skin.

Just a week ago had it steelplated back into order in theater by a skilled hand specialist and looking into two months of rehab. He told it was quite a puzzle, but he managed in getting the bones as close as hair fraction spacing. Prognosis looking good so far.

Pete ... with you when we say "stop beating yourself up" it is meant literally. It's not your fault ... the male brain often makes poor decisions when it comes to "entertainment". That is a broad category which includes sport, females and purchases ... and no, I did not describe one transaction there.

Heal quickly ... you have many more bones to break.

Many of you may be considering joining the ranks of the unemployed (sometimes called retirement). I dreaded the idea as a workaholic but it is really nice. Even if it's involuntary.

16 more months for me, then I'm out. Hopefully COVID will be far in the rearview mirror and China doesn't throw another screwy virus at us. Then its winters in Palm Desert, Summers in the PNW and travel in the fall and spring.

Our tennis club of 500 members has about 50 who spend the winters in the palm desert area. My wife and I can't see ourselves going back to the same place in the desert year after year since we don't golf. But we are looking at a place in central Italy!

In one month, I'll have been retired for three years. If I only knew how good it is, I would have done it sooner.

Yeah my wife and I play both tennis and golf, so Palm Desert is our perfect winter place. We are not beach people.

That being said, Tuscany is my favorite place in all the world so I'm with you on the central Italy stuff. We go to a villa near Florence every couple of years. Missing it during COVID.

My wife has been retired for 4 years and keeps telling me to get out. So I'm working on getting all my savings up over the next couple years and then it's saiyonara rat race.

Wow. slicer-dicer. I'd hit exclusively to that forehand. His slice is very good. He prefers to lob off his backhand too. I'd hit forehands until I can rip one to his backhand and come to the net. I'm tired just watching this.

Welcome to the club, I’ve been retired for 10 years next May and boy, does the time fly!

Only trouble is these frequent injuries and rehabilitation workouts, that nagg your inner. And the dark winter period. With covid in action, travelling is too much of a risk and all them quarantines back and forth would kill me.

Anyway, few things and thongs to consider,
1) Make plans for the future,
2) Take extra time and do the budgeting with scrutiny,
2.1) No business lunches, no travel coverage by anybody or anywhere
3) Don’t forget to be a child by nature - explore and learn new
4) There is allways tomorrow and
5) Not everybody makes it forever, don’t second guess. Go for it!

... and avoid injuries, if possible.

Anyway, I got lucky in Facebook. A former Insight Academy student in Arizona sent me a friend request and after a couple messages, not introduced into, she sent me a nightie shot humming birds (the other word is striked out here) oozing out the straps and willing to make me a happy man... 30-sth, never married, no kids.

Luckily the covid-travel restrictions taking affect till further. Ain’t gonna send no money, that’s for sure. But if she’s got the guts to come over, I’ll defenately show her around, but again, not to buy any tickets back to Ohio, when tourist visa expires.

Great tennis from both. Yeah that guy's slice is money but you handled it well. Guy moves great for 62, both of you show high level singles can be played by 'old' guys. Bravo.

My auntie started a doctor programme right after she retired. That could make your day too.

I got so pissed off by people not knowing the future studying methods, and my way in the academy, that I don’t thrive a higher academic degree any more, unless it were about sports and coaching, specially mental coaching.

It’s been so long, I’ve done anything of the sort, i think, the train went. Not gonna publish anything worth reading, maybe. Still few coaches and professional golfers have reached out for my contribution. There might be something in it, but the costs are redigulous. Getting a sertificate and PGA-membership, youd need three more courses summing up 10 grand and you’d be obliged to be subordinate aspirant for someone already having the membership.

I think the last just wouldn’t be my piece of cake.

In my second year of retirement.......how on earth did I have the time to work!

My thoughts exactly! The calendar just seems to become full week in week out...

And there is an incredible amount of people, friends and outer circle, who really think there is lot room for their projects to participate.

Where the heck they have come up with such a faulty idea? And the worst of arts is, that nobody is willing to pay you anything off the hard labour, you put into their ambitions. Just feeding the freaking dog. Sometimes even, no wine nor beer to go with the meal or burger.

Ever tried attacking the net more [S&V, C&C, moonball + sneak attack]? Since he's got such good control, your approaches have to be above average. But it might take him out of his comfort zone [although it might take you further out of yours].

My club in Florida is full of amazing slicer, dicers, who will make you look like you’ve never played before. And the clay.....oh yeah it makes it even worse for you. When I first joined, I fell into their trap. Got sucked into their game only to get destroyed. You want to try and junk ball with them???? Good luck, they have it down to a science.
Ive learned to be patient, and use the MTM/ATP or WTA stroke...heavy topspin hard shots to open areas to win. If I am off.....I lose.

Looks nice. We just got a lake house for weekends or getaways. A slip for the Jet-Ski’s on an acre of lakefront property.

In that last video both guys get away far too many times with medium serves into the middle of the box. If only more players attacked a serve instead of just getting it back and then starting a rally then their overall results would improve immensely. Many times at lower levels the serve is one of the easiest shots to attack when compared to the groundstrokes.

Anyone have advice for increasing quality and length of sleep ? I'm averaging less that 6 hours a night these days. Looking into taking some supplements, used some CBD/THC cream that I picked up in Colorado and that seemed to work pretty well but I'm out now, and well, it's illegal in Texas....

Has it always been this way or is this a recent development?

I'll give what I've read, most of which you've probably already encountered:

- Check that your mattress and pillow are still good for your body.

- How is the noise level? Ever tried a white noise generator or playing ocean waves or cicadas chirping?

- Ever get tested for sleep apnea?

- Lower the temperature

- Keep a regular schedule. For example, don't keep one schedule for weekdays and a radically different one for weekends.

- Pay attention to your body. Don't try to force a particular schedule [ie go to bed early when you're a night owl]

- Are you tired enough? And I don't mean mentally tired from a long day at the office.

- Don't do vigorous physical activity close to bedtime.

- Don't eat close to bedtime.

- Turn the TV and computer off at least an hour before bed. One reason is to avoid over-stimulation. I've also read that computer radiation in a certain spectrum may disrupt sleep.

- Darken the room as much as possible. Make sure your drapes/blinds are effective. Eliminate light sources like a clock or, at the very least, turn down the brightness and point it away from your bed. Don't put it on the nightstand 3' from your head at max brightness.

Start tracking your daily routine; maybe you'll be able to pinpoint a common variable that leads to poor sleep.

- Melatonin

- Meditation

I am very lucky that sleep is not a problem for me. I can wake up multiple times to go pee and fall back to sleep with no problems, and if my wife let me sleep 12 hours, I could do that too. My wife, on the other hand, now only sleeps about 5-6 hours a night and says she just can't sleep any more no matter how tired she is.

Anyone run a timed mile lately ? I've been doing some track workouts lately (mostly 400m intervals) and was feeling good about that, so I was curious to see how fast guys my age are running the mile. I found this article about a 61 year old guy who just ran a 4:49 mile ! That puts it all in perspective

A 4:49 mile with typical efficiency of trained runners puts VO2 at about 62 ml/kg/min, which is in the top percentiles of world class. This guy would have been a stupendous aerobic athlete in his 30's.

I still aerobically train pretty hard, but on a bike as my knees can't take the pounding of a 90 kg/198 pound body. I'm still capable of 340-345 watts over 20 minutes so that puts my VO2 at about 49 ml/kg/min at my fittest, meaning I could only run a mile in about 6 minutes. Of the local older guys, I'm still in the top 10%, but in running a mile, this guy would almost a full lap ahead of me!

If you can run a 6 minute mile at 198 lbs, that's pretty damn good. I ran a 6 minute mile at age 40, but now I'd be lucky to break 7:30 I think.

I actually haven't run a full mile at maximum speed in many years. The most I've done is run 400 meters or a quarter mile, which I can still pretty easily do in 90 seconds or less. I still have pretty large muscle mass in my legs so a component of energy production called functional reserve capacity is significantly greater than average. FRC is a measure of how much anaerobic power output I can generate, and is added on top of my maximal aerobic power output. So for shorter distances, how fast I can go gets skewed by the large amount of FRC that I have, and a 6 minute mile is short enough to have a strong contribution throughout the entire duration. If I ran a mile purely aerobically, it would probably be 75 seconds slower. For most people, the difference between a full out mile and an aerobic mile is around 45-50 seconds if I remember correctly.

I've run several half-marathons in the low 1:30's, the last of which was probably when I was around age 43 or 44 but even then, my knees were starting to complain.

I started back to running recently, but the knees aren't fully ready. I just did my best since starting again with a not-so-impressive 5 miles is under 60 minutes. So I walked out the first mile to get the knees loose (15'30), then did 10's for the next 4 miles to finish. I started at slow 12 minute miles though so improving. Heck, my goal is to get back to my 8 minute mile pace my body likes. I haven't seen a sub 5 min miles since I was running cross country in high school or early college.

More power to anyone who can pace like that after 50 years old.

EDIT: Just looked on the fitness app and splits were actually 1 (15min), 2 (10'30), 3 (11'30), 4 (11) and 5 (11), so more like 11 min miles when running.

Don't know until I try it. Those charts equating oxygen intake and running speed are calibrated with large sample sizes and based on validated physiology, as are the anaerobic contributions to power output and how they affect running speed at less than critical power levels. I know my maximal oxygen intake levels, my functional reserve capacity, and my body weight. What I don't know is my running economy, which decreases with age. The charts that predict running speeds are based on average economy and my economy is likely worse than that. A single 90 second quarter mile is still a relatively easy pace with enough Ibuprofen so I think I could still get pretty close to a 6 minute mile.

Hi guys! I got up into the North to our family ”mountain house” at the fjäll area jp North. Hiking only doable every other day, cause the shoulder got all swollen out and broken knee goving me hard time after a day on the tracks. Should be biking, but with no collarbone... Yeah.

Well, not all bad. I really liked it up there, but the odd was, th at the previous two weeks had been the best in terms of fall colors. All I got leafless trees and not much cOlor onthe ground either! Not really got me stranded, cause it is basically the same, if you chill-out home or ”abroad”.

the weather couldn’t be more grayish. Not actually raining, but relative humidity just under or at 100%. NIce!

Not green either, but cheap!

i was thinking, now that Lewis Hamilton never gonna drive other than civil electric million dollar Merc, not making any emissions, what could a poor retired fighter pilot do? I mean, his carb footprint is rather minor to mine, but no way, I ever gonna get me a fully electric Merc SUV...

Have doubts, If I shall ever become a good person.
