Anyone got some clue about Federer current K90 setup?? I know the n90 post everywhere but not the K90..

Does he add some lead?? and string tensions? TW video interview Nate Feguson but he mainly mentioned Andy Murry racquet. It seems Fed K90 racquet is kind of a secret or something..

why do pros string their racquet so low?? I string my racquets at 60 lbs. and that midtension on my racquets.
Because the pros can afford to restring their racquets before every match even if they've never used that racquet, so they never have to worry about tension loss over time.

In my experience, I started playing @60lb, then 58lb, then 56lb then 50lb, and now I play 50x48lb and it feels great. I am planning going down further to experience the spin and the power of it. Fed use string saver so it extend his string life a little bit.

Since when are people stringing high because of expected tension loss?
Uh....since the beginning of time? ;) LOL

If I had somebody to restring all my racquets everyday and I didn't mind the cost, I'd be stringing my racquets at lower tensions to begin with.

After just a few hours on the court, your tension can drop by over 5 lbs.

Racquet stringing for amateurs is like, for me anyway, getting a hair cut. I do not get my hair cut to be like I want it right after it's done, I get it cut to be the way I like it in about a week.

lol... thats pretty funny.

so is that 49/45 number correct? just for reference what was the ncode tension? wasnt it like low 50s?

Unless your using crappy strings, your strings should be able to hold tension
Your freshly strung racquet will lose up to 10% or more of its tension within just a few hours after you've strung it and even before you ever hit a single ball with it. Then after just 15 minutes or so of hitting, you could lose up to another 10% of tension.

Federer in particular switches frames every 7 games.

But using fresh strings can only account for it upto a point. Pete used to string between 70 and 75 lbs.

Pros are stringing lower these days for more tospin, I suppose. Also, a small-headed racquet requires less tension.

Fed probably doesnt use the k90

lol..Fed doesnt string lower because he can afford to...pros string at a very wide range of tensions including very tightly

he strings lower for the performance based upon the way he hits the ball..it's likely for the extra depth and perhaps he likes the ball feel of looser rather than tighter

wait so are u saying if u orignally used a 100 inch frame strung at 60 ... when u use a new frame (k95) u should string it lower

ALL strings lose approx 10% of their tension in the first 24hrs after stringing, whether you hit with the racquet or not. Gut and Aramid (kevlar) lose the least amount of tension and tend to settle quickly. All other strings depend on what and how they are made.

Elongation properties are listed in the USRSA string diagnostic center to help stringers make the fine tension adjustments to give you the best result for your specific racquet. With over 130 different types of strings, this can become very confusing.

You also have to match the string properties with the racquet flex and the person playing style, to get the best results. So stringing has become a real science if you want the best from your racquet.

many pros commonly change to a fresh strnigjob the first time after 7 games and then after 9 games with the assumption the warmup is equivalent to 2 games. the theory being that the strings become looser with use, but the balls become slightly slower with use so this makes things balance out over the course of the match. sampras seemed to like playing his strings until they broke strings usually, which didnt take very long

this has nothing to do with whether they string high or low or in the middle of course

fed is unique in that he wont change to a fresh stringjob at 7 or 9 games if it is for one of his service games..he'll only change when he is returning serve.

Not to be off topic or anything about the string tensions, but does anybody know what kind of strings federer uses?

A hybrid of Wilson Natural Gut (rebranded Bab VS) mains and Luxilon ALU rough in the crosses.

BTW, Sampras was using the high tension because he was using gut, which is very elastic compare to the hybrid that Federer is using. If Pete is playing is in this generation, I think he will go below 62 with luxilon and his kick serve will be 9 feet high, not 7........

so what about fed's frame? any lead tape or special adjustments?

That was my question for this new thread. Apparently it is not known or he plays with the stock racquet. I am currently play with the K90 but I think it's better to put on some lead @3,9,12 and the handle. Yes, it made the racquet heavy but after a few days, It just became a great weapon.

im pretty sure its a definite he used lead somewhere... the racquet would just get owned when he hits againts nadal if it was stock due to extreme topspin

Actually, kevlar CAN lose quite a bit of tension, but this isn't noticeable often b/c the string is so stiff. B/c it's so stiff, SLIGHT movements, any settling, loose knots, etc causes respectively large tension variations. It strings up tight and holds it's tension IF there is no movement, tight knots, but some movement will occur 99% of the time.
