Your expectations from Federer from 2021+?

What are your expectations from Federer when he comes back in 2021? He will be 39.5 years.

He seems to be fit and training very well. I'm trying to have lower expectations and just enjoying him play while it lasts, but of course it would be amazing if he could win another slam, reach Connors 109 titles and get some wins over the top players especially Djokovic.

Would you be okay if he only reaches QF and SF in slams? I'm very curious to see what level he can play, but he has proven over and over that we can never count him out. Hopefully he will be okay physically after long matches and that his knee surgery is perfect.

I'm very excited to see him come back but I'm also a little worried that he won't be the same as he will be around 40.

I just want to see him play well again. Doesn't matter if wins a Grand Slam or not. I just want to see him play as well as he can at this stage of his career.
Having said that, I expect him to still be very dangerous at Wimbledon next year, if he is completely healthy. He needs to go back his 2015 style of play. Big serve, razor sharp at the net and keeping the points super short. And then if the grasscourts and conditions help him like they did 2019, he could go all the way. Let's see.

Will have his chances at AO and W I think, whether he takes them or not remains to be seen, although he's not the favourite. 0-1 slams I'd say. As long as he keeps going deep in slams I doubt retirement will be on his mind.

Well, let's see. IMO the probability of him winning Wimbledon next year is about 1/2. All he needs is someone to take Djokovic out, really. In AO it is about 1/4, there are a few players who can beat him, but he is still one of the big favorites. In USO I'd say his chance is about 1/6, though I might be wrong. In RG I'd give him like a 1/10 chance. By logic he shouldn't win there, but the new conditions might suit his game more.

So if we assume these probabilities, the expected value of the number of slams he will win in 2021 is about 1.016666666. Makes sense, I definitely can see him winning 1 slam in 2021. Winning more will definitely be a surprise. (though who knows with the current tour)

Don't have the slightest idea.

Wouldn't surprise me if he came back strong and won W or AO, and equally if he is so out of practice he only wins a small title or two.

I hope he has been training furiously in secret somewhere and comes back in insane form. But kinda hard to replicate the shots coming off Rafa, Thiem and Nole's racquets just hitting with junior practice partners like he does.

Hope to see him go fairly deep into most tournaments, I need my Old Man Fed fix. Miss seeing that dude play tennis. Now that Rafa has caught up, I wouldn't mind Fed adding to his tally, provided Rafa's out of the tournament. Absolute dream would be for him to get an absolute cakewalk draw and then finish off Djokovic in one more W final :p Not right that the Wimby GOAT has lost three finals against him.

Fed’s not winning any more slams

But that’s not true. We can’t just assume that if player A loses early, player B has a 100% chance of winning.

None.
39 and a half? Out for nearly a whole year. Nadal must be feeling super confident now. Everyone else is improving.
It'll be top 6-10 stuff at best, top 11-20 most likely.

I think Federer has already won his last Big title. 40-15 from Del Potro in IW was a kiss of death. Only managed to win Miami since then.

I said about 1/2, not exactly. Both Federer and Djokovic have probability almost 1/2 of winning. Really can't see any other players winning Wimbledon.

Btw, one of my best long-term predictions was saying that Federer will never win another Slam after AO 2018. It seemed almost irrational at that time, but turned out to be very good take.

He can still win at least 1 more slam. Just can't write him off anymore.

I expect another run like 2018 post-Australia.

No major finals and no Masters titles. Maybe a couple deep runs to the QF or SF at Wimbledon or Australia. Hopefully he'll win Basel and another 500. Maybe a final or two at a Masters like Indian Wells where he gets days off.

Corona is not going to trouble sports any more. We already have fans back at sporting events all over the world.
Yeah but the host nation's economy relies heavily on mass fan attendance from all over the world which more than likely won't be possible even by next summer.

Fed should manage his schedule very carefully and should have 2 goals: 1 more Wimbledon and 7 more total titles. Nothing else for him really matters or is achievable.

The bookies give you 10 dollars for every dollar you bet. You should go bet a fortune, if you are serious about Fed having a 50-50 chance of winning.

Being tied at 20 slams now with Nadal will create some urgency and pressure on Roger to try to regain his lead. Not sure if that's good or bad for him.
