Was Federer a failure before 2017?

As we all know, Federer had only won a measly 17 slams before his magical 2017 season and given that the current general consensus is that Djokovic is pretty much a failure who should hang his head in shame for not having passed the #17 mark it rather begs the question of whether Roger was a complete failure for the first eighteen years of his career. :( I know at the time he seemed like a big success to the masses but hindsight can be one harsh son of a b1tch.

Don't take it so seriously bro. Djokovic is clearly a legend.

Oh come on don't act all hurt and sulking. yeah both djok and fed suffered some extra trolling recently as expected, it'll pass.

Djokovic is great, he just thinks he's even greater than he is so that's annoying. Arrogant overconfidence worked against lesser mugs but exposed him once he met a superior opponent.

If anyone thinks Djokovic is a failure they need their head examined.
He’s already one of the greatest players of all time, and could end up as 1st or 2nd in Slam Count.

Yes. Before 2017 FRAUD couldn't even beat total MUGS like Raonic (a player with the returning ability of a high schooler) and Wawrinka (a mental midget who breaks down at the sight of his daddy), forget about Nadal and Djokovic. And don't give me the horsecrap "Wawrinka and Raonic are actually good players". Raonic makes Roddick look like a GOAT candidate. The only upside to this CRAPOLA era is exposing Fed for the FRAUD he is. PETE would've PISTOL-WHIPPED these MUGS back in his prime, ESPECIALLY on clay (did you know he won Rome?) Fed is a total FAILURE who feasted on a WEAK ERA. He should hang his head in shame ROFLMAO.

Absolutely. 17 slams and 300 weeks at number 1? 20+ Masters titles and 80+ titles overall? Winner of all 4 slams, tied for the most at 2 of them? If I was Roger, I’d be so embarrassed by those accomplishments I would disappear from the tennis world and never return. Sorry excuse for a tennis career.

It’s really not though. Yea some people make dumb troll threads. No serious tennis fan thinks Joker is a failure though, come on..
Are you intimating that esteemed posters such as @Beckerserve and @USO aren't serious tennis fans? 'Cos they sure talk about him like he's a failure, which means they must've thought the same thing about Roger this time four years ago. :(

You seem very bitter. Everything good at home? Did your parents divorce or something?

Yes he was a failure but not anymore because today he has 20. Nadal is also now a success with his 20. But Djokovic is still a failure because he only has 17. He will need 20 to stop being a failure. Do you have any other questions?

I don’t believe either poster have declared Djokovic a failure? Not from what I’ve seen.
I think they both said Fedal> Djokovic, which isn’t equivalent to being a failure at all.

In terms of trolling, I think every player gets it when they lose. Federer fans were mocked with the ‘one more point’ lady. Djokovic now perhaps being trolled partly because his coach declared Nadal had no chance which was a bit arrogant. It’s unlikely Goran would publicly say that unless they talk about Nadal like that in private.

If and when Nadal next loses at a slam, I’m sure the Nadal haters will be out in full force. That’s just the way it is. From 2015-2016 they had such fun when they thought Rafa was finished.

Edit: Just noticed @USO ‘s latest post haha. My bad. But I think it’s light hearted. No one genuinely thinks he’s a failure.

Definite failure prior to 2017 for Roger. He had only won a paltry 17 slams and been #1 for only 300 weeks. Why another thread on a pitiful mug?

Begging the question misused here.
Actual meaning (look it up) is assuming a flawed premise to be true in your argument.
Claiming that people call Nole a “failure” is a flawed premise.
Nobody here would deny he’s an ATG.

Op you seem frustrated. As of now Djokovic has fallen back little bit but he is not staying there forever. I can see him hitting #19 at his worst.

Djoker might be sitting at 21 Slams right now if not for Stan.

Nah, he was done (physically and mentally) after his W title.
Medvedev would have defeated him, even if Wawrinka hadn't.

What is with this persecution complex?

No one thinks Djokovic is a failure (as a tennis player anyway). He's considered one of the best of all time. Being seen as less great than only two other players in the history of the sport (for now. He can still change that) is hardly failure.

Weird thread.

No one says Djokobic is a tennis failure, he’s just not very popular that’s all.

20 slams, or 30 for that matter, won’t ever change that. He should just accept that, and so should his extremely salty fanbase. Yes, his fanbase is incredibly small compared to Fedal’s but the butthurt is real.

20 is more than 17 is the only point i ever make. If you think Djokovic is a failure as he is 3rd of his era that is up to you. I think he has had a great career.
