I think the networks think that the casual tennis fan in America will only watch Americans and, since they want higher ratings, they show any Americans all the time. This, of course, is not really true, as the casual fans I talk to generally know who Nadal, Federer, and Roddick are, maybe Blake. Other than the Williams', american women are basically inisvible. I
Of course, all true tennis fans, American or otherwise, could care less and just want to see the best matches. Yeah, show me Serena in 2002 and 2003 when she was committed and in shape, but now?
I understand if its the later rounds and there really is no choice, but some of the decisions during the first week are just terrible. The women right now are difficult because a lot of stars have dropped out or down in recent months, or, like Mauresmo, are just returning to form. But, still Henin, Jankovic, Ivanovic, are just a few players we should see before the Williams in the early rounds. Show me Sybille Bammer, who is a 27 year old mom, who only played her first slam 2 years ago.
