Ok, I'm sick of this crap. I expect this garbage from ESPN, but "Et Tu" Tennis Channel? What the hell? Common Jelena take down Venus!!!! I can put up with seeing a match from one of them but 2? And I'd bet anything in my pocket that they will show a replay on ESPN! Well, I can at least be thankful for one thing. We won't be force fed Andy Roddick for the rest of the tournament.

ESPN priority list in order:

1. Show any high profile American(eg-Williams sister, Roddick, Blake).
2. Show any sex symbol female player, or controversial figure(eg-Sharapova).
3. If none of the above exist anymore show "any" American, even if it is Harkleroad or Perry, or whoever.
4. If all the above are gone show the actual best players(eg-Federer, Henin, Nadal).

Feel sorry for Canadians too since we rely on American tennis coverage as Canadians see fit to do no more then borrow American coverage of tennis for our stations, or sometimes not even that and we just watch the American stations we have access too. Americans not being tops in tennis anymore affects what us Canadians get to see too.

Might be a silly question but do you guys not have Eurosport beamed across the pond? I'm sure I remember seeing it when I was over a few years ago.

On TSN, we're subject to whatever ESPN want to show us. On RDS, we see replays of what we've already seen on TSN. And as for TTC live streams ? Well we can't get the feed because we're blacked out.

The only single time where we control the feed is at the Rogers Cup.

I think the networks think that the casual tennis fan in America will only watch Americans and, since they want higher ratings, they show any Americans all the time. This, of course, is not really true, as the casual fans I talk to generally know who Nadal, Federer, and Roddick are, maybe Blake. Other than the Williams', american women are basically inisvible. I

Of course, all true tennis fans, American or otherwise, could care less and just want to see the best matches. Yeah, show me Serena in 2002 and 2003 when she was committed and in shape, but now?

I understand if its the later rounds and there really is no choice, but some of the decisions during the first week are just terrible. The women right now are difficult because a lot of stars have dropped out or down in recent months, or, like Mauresmo, are just returning to form. But, still Henin, Jankovic, Ivanovic, are just a few players we should see before the Williams in the early rounds. Show me Sybille Bammer, who is a 27 year old mom, who only played her first slam 2 years ago.

Serena is one of the best players. She's won the two biggest tournaments of the year.

Ok, I should correct myself then. If all above fails shows the remaining best players that dont fit into 1 of the first 3 categories. Serena would be the lone exception who is in any of the first 3 and still fits in the 4th as well.

Hang in there. Venus and Serena will be out of tennis in a few years, too many outside interests.

Roddick can't get any better, so he'll continue to lose early in the F.O. and may start losing more on hard courts as well since he's tried just about everything within the scope of his limited skill set and all the top players know what to expect.

I predict Blake is at the apex of his game, won't get any better, doesn't have what it takes to win the big matches under pressure.

So, in actuality, things are looking up for you ;-)

Now, for tennis fans who live in America like me, there are problems. I try to catch McEnroe on the masters tour whenever I can, Sampras as well. Otherwise, the future looks pretty bleak in terms of interesting/exciting American men moving up the ranks.

Well his matches tend to be the shortest of them all actually.
Your boyfriend takes so long in between points that he gets more airtime than any other player out there so I don't know what you're moaning about.

You're right. It is boring watching the guy with the longest winning streak on clay, and current King of Clay serve up bagels left and right.

I think the order of coverage is:

1) Top Americans(Williams, Roddick)
2) Top two in the world.
3) Americans Nike players(Blake)
4) Other Nike players(Sharapova)
5) **** the rest. Who are those bumbs anyway. Where is your swoosh? No swoosh? Get the **** out of here.

I think that is how it goes.

You know, I was wondering if Roland Garros had a men's tournament going on.

I went to bed last night to the shrieks of Serena beating the crap out of some French girl. If I saw her clench her fist and scream "come on" once, I saw it forty times. And it wasn't much of a match....

And when I woke this morning at 4:30 AM, what did I spy but Venus playing Jankovic. Now I'm all for Title 9, but really....

And as I dressed for work today, who would take the court but Roger Federer. So, I guess there is a men's tournament going on after all.

Anyone want to bet what's on the replay on ESPN & probably TTC when I get home at 4:30 CDT? Anyone?

I see your point Edberg, but I am becoming intrigued by Serena's continuing run. I find it simultaneously amazing and exasperating that she can make deep runs in Grand Slams without many preparatory tournaments. Amazing because it shows how much sheer will-power can do in terms of overcoming lack of fitness and practice, and exasperating because the rest of the women's tour does not seem competent enough in "tennis intelligence" to give an out-of-practice, out-of-shape Serena a hard time.

I agree. But it also shows sadly how there is a lack of depth and quality in women's tennis. Granted it's better than always watching Chris and Martina in every final for the better part of the 80's and also the 70's. :mad: Now having said that I'm glad Venus is out. We get to see more men's tennis. Only Serena is left and they can't show her all day, or can they??? :-(

I don't even watch espn anymore. There's just no hope of seeing a men's match until next week anyway. And let's not forget all the crap NBC is going to show this weekend. Right now the RG scoreboard provides the best tournament coverage.

I can't take anymore of those two Williams sisters. Serena makes me want to vomit everytime I look at her, and Venus is not making my stomach feel any better, plus the screeching...good heavens.

EDIT: Just found out Venus lost.

No, it doesn't. They do have a horse race going on though. There's really only 2 ponies racing however, the rest are for show and display.

Man, I love to watch tennis (whenever it's actually on tv - which is either half-ass ESPN2 coverage of grand slams or Jmac, Courier and crew on INHD once in a while). I really can't watch ESPN's coverage of the Williams sisters though, and it's a shame. Sure, I'm nowhere near the skill level of these players, and I don't hit the ball as hard, but I play tennis 3-4 times a week and I know that making these ridiculous animal noises when hitting the ball isn't necessary. Between them and Sharapova, I rarely watch women's matches anymore, although I would love to. Boy was I rooting for Jankovic (for as much of the match as I could actually watch).

Wow, you're no where near their skill level?? How did that happen? Thank goodness that you've realized that "not making those animal noises" isn't necessary. Give the Williams sisters a buzz and tell them (although they might be on their way to the bank to deposit their huge checks from being so successful on the tour). Good thread.
