How did Mr Fed win 3 slams after 35?

UnderratedSlam

Coz he vultured them in Novak's absence.

Before 17/18 Novak beat RF in two Wimby finales, a USO finale and a AO semis. He was the big obstacle.

Similar to the way he vultured his only FO09 when Rafa was injured.

Yes, Rafa was injured at FO. he played below par vs Soderling, then pulled out of Wimby. Pulled out as defending champion.

Of course, there's also the luck of getting Cilic twice...

For some reason everyone crapped their pants. Most pathetic efforts from the field until Del Potro showed the way. No excessive complaints about the inflation era happened then though.
Actually, even Fed fans were saying back in 2017-early 2018 that it was a weak era.

It's just that people are complaining more about Djokodal because they have never had these extended periods of not winning slams like Fed has. They haven't been dethroned from the top. Fed has.

It's easy to complain more about Djokodal because they have yet to be the underdogs in their 30's like Fed has been.

2017 USO he beat Fed din't he, then he beat fed at indian wells.

As much as I want everyone to have beating Fed as their biggest measuring stick, that is not it. It is titles and convincing performances in tournaments that do that. Del Potro has exactly one very memorable match in that time, and that is his QF against Nadal at Wimbledon. The rest has been pretty much par for the course. Del Potro's best years showed how good he can be, so that is just going back to what he could do, only without the resilience and the power that he once had.

And what exactly has shown Del Potro in that time, so that we can assume that you are talking about 2018/2019?

And what exactly does 2018-19 have to do with the period of Federer's most recent three Majors? Is this your misinterpreting or derailing reflexes kicking in? Why don't you reformulate or just try again so the question makes sense...

I addressed your claim about Del Potro, and that is when he had his most consistent results. Oh, I got it, you just wanted to have a go at Federer, and didn't really mean anything else.

Jeebus, even when one allows for the possibility that you want to have a tennis discussion, it is quickly debunked.

What a sad state of the things.

Neo-Federer played some of his highest level of tennis in his career. Also, W17-Miami18 was probably the weakest period in the past decade. ;)

Djoker may not do it (even then I'm not 100% sure), but I wouldn't put it past Nadal to win the next 3 RG titles or the next 2 plus a USO, something like that.
When decline happens for the oldsters, it happens swiftly and ruthlessly. Rafa’s choking and utter exhaustion at the end of the Med match may be a portent of things to come.

Simply amazing achievement by Roger Federer although he used very bad slump by Novak Djokovic to bag 2 AO and 1 WB. However, players do get injured and Roger also got injured too. But at WB 2019 he proved that he can take it even at 38. Only a hand from heavens took it away from him in the most unfortunate and cruel event in history of tennis. Wish that Roger is back anytime soon and play again, that would be lot of fun.

Actually one would have to be pretty stupid to think that "everyone was crapping their pants but Del Potro showed the way" in a thread about Gramperer's vulturing achievements was referring to Del Potro's most consistent results. But you "got it" eventually. Kudos! Now do both a favor and don't allow me such possibilities in the future, thanks.

Open trolling?

Oh, well!

Seriously; almost everyone agrees 2017 was not a strong year.

I am pretty sure that almost all serious Fed fans acknowledge that the competition has been abysmal since around 2015. Then again, he already admitted that he is openly trolling, so I don't think that his words warrant another thought.

Pretty much every Fed fan on the forum that I know of acknowledges that 2017 was a weak year, with some exception going to AO 2017 which, along with W 2018, was the only decent Slam of 2017-present.

2015 had some good slams, but also lacked Nadal. 2014 is the last really good year, I think. And I think almost all sane people agree it has been easier to win slams in 2015-2020 than in 2010-2015.

Surely you jest?
Rafa, sure, I can see him get more RGs and a USO

Djoker? massive, pyramid sized question mark
You have to be kidding me. Likely to do? I think not. Actual future greats are starting to emerge. Nadal has almost 0 chance of winning three majors after 35.
Surely you guys don't think a YEC is a turning point. Look at the slams this year, nothing has changed. You had Djoker win AO, would have won WC, would have won USO if not for a once in a career blunder, and Rafa beat Djoker in the final of FO. Oh, and the year ended with Djoker #1 and Rafa #2.

If you guys think there are future ATG's in the making then fine, but I have heard that for a decade. I think Rafa wins at least 3 more FO's and Djoker will win a few more AO or WC.

In the 1980's-90 early 2000's maybe, but tennis has quite clearly had a shift to older players being able to hang on to their top level for much longer. People didn't think Nadal or Djokovic (or even Fed at certain points after 2013 or 2016) would make it this far. There's no reason to doubt that they'll make it to 37-38 and still be relatively competitive. Especially in Nadal's case because he's far and away the best player on any single surface that the game has ever or will ever see.

And especially against this field of players.

Absence of heavy competition. In a word Djokovic obviously. Without him Fed likely wins 3 Slams between 14-15.

I am referring to inflation era, let's adjust the Slam numbers the way we think is right and that stuff. Plenty of us agree that years that followed weren't strong either. But from "20>16>12, end of discussion" we have come to a different tune now. I don't need to explain why is that...
