Adding weight to make it HL HOW TOs.

Hi,
I plan to add some weight to Lite racket (285g) with equal balance = 342 which is Pacific X Force Lite.
Will adding some metal (15g) at the very very end of the handle will do right job ? I afraid there are some hidden secrets, probably weight should be somehow evenly distributed..etc..

Rationale for this: my player grew up: 15yo and ready to play with heavier racket which will be healthier and will make it easier to play with the wrist which he needs to do. Coach recommended HL racquet.

Cheers + Thanks for comments

Don't encourage him to "play with wrist". Wrist should be mostly passive.

Split the added weight between the butt cap and just above the grip.

Tx, how do you add weight above grip, with lead tape ?
On the butt I plan put some screws.

Re. Wrist should be mostly passive.
Not sure if I express myself correctly but this guy need more rotation for wrist in most cases. Not sure if you mean Rotation = Active, and no rotation or movement = Passive (?)

Passive wrist - rotation/flexion just happens, without inducing it by muscles.

Weight above grip: lead tape, Bluetac putty, rubber bands, anything... I use some PU bands for party glass marking, from a dollar store. They are about 8g each.

Yes, I don't force any arming or other power for wrist, and overall for anything. We just don't have enough movement and good angle between arm and racket..

I would probably consider a heavier racket to switch to first, plenty are more HL with the weight he needs vs fully customizing a racket that at the start is not the right fit.

To add a little weight to my PureStrikes I re-wrapped with a leather grip, then overwrap the leather.

Yes it can be done but 15g is significant...

An easy way is to put lead tape under the grip. The avantage is that it is removable and you can easily make adjustments.

But you should have a target in mind regarding the mass and the balance. I mean don't proceed randomly.

For exemple try first with a 32cm balance (unstrung) and see how the players feel about it. Then you can try 31.5cm etc. Otherwise you will get lost.

Often for frames around 300g or 305g the balance is around 32cm or 31.5cm.

This TWU tool is very usefull for that. It tells you how the characteristics of the racquet will be affected by the added weight.

You could also try to evaluate the SW of the racquet before customization. It is an important parameter. If you are an iPhone user, the Swing Toll app works very well.

Thanks T!
For now I just put some metal on the butt (12g), and do my try and feel session. Young player first response was 'Ohhh!!! it's so heavy' but was settled in next 10m.
I might go to put this 12g as a putty/silicone in the middle part of grip.

I'm not a fan of adding lead under grip, we're right on spot for grip size.

I ahve added weight to the top of the frames of my racquets (10:30 and 1:30) and then popped off the buttcap and cut up strips of lead tape and stuck them into the buttcap to restore the OEM balance. Then I used a gluegun to add a little glue to secure them a little more. Worked great and I can easily add or remove weight in the cap in the future.

A quick & easy way then is to replace the base grip with something heavier. A leather grip will add ~ 8-10g, depending on which one you select. And its easy to remove as well.
