New Yonex Vcore (for 2020 or 2021 ?)

Ahh cool, thanks!

All in all I think your review matches what I thought about it pretty well.

But then again, mine is a custom spec'd pro-issued frame which I found works wonderfully for me (even in other frames).

Which string did you use and what did you think about the launch angle?

Nice first review... doesn't seem to be a revolution compared to the previous one... not super happy with the lower rigidity... well...
Really looking forward to the Galaxy Black version, hope they will keep the blue touch that would look dope on black :)

Really the lower flex is more about the way the flex is designed all along the frame. It doesn't really feel like 65RA, especially if you prefer to hit closer to the head.
Strung with String Project Magic @23/22 kg (low tension, because I'm used to, and because I have so many frames to review that I don't wanna get injured)

I just reviewed the VCore 100, it's in French unfortunately. Feel free to ask any questions. I had the 98 too

Does it has feel compared to the muted brick it was ?

Feel is a bit subjective IMHO
I didn't think previous gen was that bad! Feel is okay for such a powerful frame. My personal liking is more flex in the hoop.
I really liked the 98 though

How does the new vcore 98 compare to the previous vcore red/galaxy 98?
Thank you

A bit improved feel and power, I'd say. But I didn't have the time to play with both at the same time unfortunately. Here in France, we're forced to play outside (covid crisis) and weather is bad. I really liked the 2021 version of the 98. Close to the Extreme Tour, but with better spin potential. Comfort and touch are A class easily!

Played with the VC100.21 hit with and without the 8g butt cap change to change the balance.
Playing specs: 317g strung VC18Lg/PRCW18g, then + Wilson Pro overgrip + silicone band= 325g + 8g butt cap replacement.
Balance: 332mm strung stock, 321mm as tested.
Can't really compare to the VC100.18 because I only hit with that one for about 2 hours. I have recently tested the EZ100.20+ which played stiffer than the VC100.21, which was very surprising. It also felt very muted like the EZ series. The VC100.21 does not have the same treatment of a thicker beam as the VC98.21. I remember the VC100.18 to play firm but not stiff. The VC100.21 is noticeably more powerful and spin on the serve vs the VC98.21, but not as pronounced a difference in power as the EZ or VC.18 series 98 vs 100 ranges. I believe the softer frame has lowered the power a bit. It basically is a softer and more muted model vs the older one. I think it still has the forgiveness and nice whippy nature (even without the extra weight I added later). Still it isn't stable at the top half of the hoop once the pace picks up, and probably needs 3-4g @ 10/2 to bring up stability. The string bed is bouncy, even more so than the EZ100+.20. Could be the spacing or flex.

I'll write about the VC95.21 last since I spent the longest time with this frame in the last 4 days.

Just don't use the Youtube translation in front of kids. It had some of the most lewd translations of Japanese when I last watched their website! LOL

Interesting..I’m still using the SV98 285g w/ mods. I like this version because has that raw feel which is something I’m used to from my junior sticks which was the OG APD. That stick, imo is the GOAT from the APD/PA lines.

That’s really interesting. Could you elaborate on thw diffs between the new VCore 98 and the Extreme Tour?

Based on this did you prefer the 100 or 98 in the 21 model?

Good day yall,
Need help: Will the vcore 95 red grommets fit the SV95? Asking here b/c the other threads are dead. Thx and stay safe.

VC95.21 notes:
Weight (with Volkl V-Torque Tour 19g/PRCW18g, Wilson overgrip, extras silicone band): 333g
Balance: 317mm
Background: I'd tried the SV95 and VC95.18, and liked them. They reminded me of the 6.1 95 16x18, which I'd played for 2 years before the RF97.
The VC95.21 plays stiffer than the VC95.18, which I'd played with heavily modded stick just 2 weeks ago on a racquet exchange challenge. I remember the SV95 was stiffer, with very crisp feel of ball pocketing and bite. Through VC95.21's very good but still muted feel, I could tell the flex is more in the throat, whereas the VC95.18 had better feel and flexed more mid hoop (albeit because there was significant weight at 2/10), with the SV95's feel was crisper in ball pocketing feel and has a very uniformed flex. Being that player's pro stock style racquet, the VC95.21 is definitely a control frame that allows (and forces you) to swing out to generate pace. The top hoop still needs some weight to stabilize the frame. I think the sweet spot is generously big and the racquet allows a player to do his thing. I wasn't afraid to swing out 90% of the time, whereas with my current SV98+, I'd play 75% because of the power.
Overall, the VC95.21 is a confused child of the VC95.18 and SV95. It is closer to the stiffness and power of the SV95, but the slightly more muted feel of the VC95.18. It can take much mods to make it your own stick, and it's tempting for 5.0+/UTR10+ players who have fuller strokes and can generate their own pace to try it. I won't pick it because I need the extra power and bigger frame forgiveness from the SV98+ against 5.5s/10.5+, cos I'm in my mid 40s and can't make up for the 3 slower steps to the ball a 30+ yr old has, or the 4 steps a 20+ year old has. YMMV!

Based on this did you prefer the 100 or 98 in the 21 model?
Of the 2, I like the 100 more, because of the forgiveness and extra power. I can hit out with top spin more, and don't have to work as hard. The 98 obviously has better control, but I feel not as whippy without mods.

I assume this applies for groundstrokes and serve returns. How do the 98 and 100 compare for serves and volleys.

I don't understand what you're saying in regards to 5.5 to 10.5 rated players. The rating system only goes up to 7.0

And a 7.0 is a world class professional. So what are you talking about?

No.

Pretty much the same applies. 100 is always going to have a bit more spin and pace due to the more open pattern and whippier balance, and of course better stability with that too. The 98 has less power so a little more precise.

5.5 is for the USTA/NTRP rating system.

10.5 is for the UTR system.
Thanks for that!

The paint job in real life is actually really good.. an improvement imo..

98 is way more solid playing.. string bed dwell time still not super long but I prefer it over the VC98

Any comparisons of the current gen core 95 to the 2021 version? Also, although I haven’t tried the 98, I’ve heard it plays very differently from current gen 95. How does that compare with the 2021 95 vs 98?

After playing with both I feel the 2021 95 is a bit stiffer and a bit more stable. Though I had modded both the old 95 and the new one to the same specs. SW 350, 8pts Headlight, 355 total weight flex at 65 measured on Babolat RDC. I tried playing with the new Poly Tour Rev and it felt jarringly too stiff a string even when strung at 46lbs. I switched to Poly Tour Pro 18G at 45 and it felt much better. I could probably go even lower in tension or go with a gut hybrid.

After playing for a few sets I started to get dialed in. After playing a bunch with the Ezone Tour I like the added control, spin is slightly less and power is slightly less but I find myself playing better as I am hitting through the ball more. I was taking my foot off the pedal a bit with the Ezone Tour to get control. I may make the switch to this. I had also been playing with the Blade Pro 16X19 and while that racquet had plenty of pop I could never really dial in the control.

Good to know - would you say it's worth it to wait for the 2021 instead of buying the old one?

Also, does anyone know whether the old 95 will get further discounted when the 2021 releases?

When a new model comes out, the one prior will always get discounted. Atleast 15-25% off from the original price.

The old 95 will get discounted more though I do feel that the new 95 is an improvement over the older one. Just my 2 cents though.

Different racquets. VC95 is more precision and for fuller strokes, but will feel powerful enough for more advanced players who provide their own power, and more headlight and also heavier. The VC98.21 has an open stringbed with good bite, more forgiveness, more power, a little flexier, less headlight and has a little less feel/feedback.

Well depends on your priorities. The new stick play stiffer and more muted, and the older one is more flexible, has more feel, slightly less powerful, and obviously cheaper.

Yeah, the 95 is discounted $229 right now, so was just wondering if they'll lower it even more.

I haven't tried the 98, but i tried the ezone 98 tour and actually really didn't like its lack of responsiveness/feel and hollowness.

I'm all for getting a bit more power back into the 95, as i felt it was a bit hard to hit in stock form, but i don't want it to feel like the ezone 98 tour, pure strike, aero, etc.

Well if you didn't like the EZ98T, you probably won't like the VC range anymore, which all feels kinda muted because of the VDM. The 95 is different because it's thinner and smaller hooped, so the feel is more direct. If you want a foam filled racquet, try Angell's 95 (I know you can't try but maybe buy 2nd hand?). The foam fill gives a different feedback but I definitely feel the stringbed better with it than say the EZ/VC range. It's like the VCP, before VDM, but feels filled with foam... cos it is! haha

Ah, I see. I might just go ahead and get the current VC95 then - I had great experiences after using some lead tape. I'll check out the Angell 95 too!

EDIT: Checked out the Angell TC95v3, and it seems very interesting! I'm just wondering if it's really worth it, if all i want is the current vcore95 with a bit more stability and power/plow-through, much of which can be fixed with lead tape...same argument for the 2021 version as well.

Hi, can you compare power, comfort and control between the old and new 98?
Thanks

I would say power is pretty similar although this one is a lot more solid. I really like the feel on this one.. again its solid but I feel the balls stay on the strings longer than the last two versions. Because of the extra feel and solidity I would say control is better, because you can feel the ball better. If that makes sense.
