Golf and F1 target higher-income earners.
After all, how many cars did Ferrari sell last year? Nowhere near as many rackets that Wilson sold, but what's a $200 racket and $20 string compared to half a million $$$.

Huh, I thought basketball would be in one of those for sure. I mean look at Shaq's contract, he makes $20 million a year which is little seeing as how people THOUGHT he deserved $30 million a year.

nothing compared to what Beck has taken from the Americans: $50m a year for 5 years.

While it is true that the best golfer (probably) makes more than any other player in sport, we have to consider that this is possible due to outside revenues, mainly publicity.

If we take that out of the equation, then Baseball and Soccer are probably up there. Also, a ****ty baseball/football/basketball/hockey player makes "infinitely" more than a ****ty golfer or tennis player.

Also in motor sports, a lot of pilots need to bring their own sponsors in order to get a spot.

According to the Sports Illustrated Fortunate 50, Federer earns $31,343,885 while Sharapova earns $23,799,501.

I know this is nothing compare to Tiger Woods' earning, but at least we know that being a tennis no.1 still earns alot. :) Lets hope one day a pro tennis player's income will equal or maybe more than a pro golf player.

Is this an article based on yearly salaries?

Damn, go Roger. I think he barely made 31million in total prize money for his career, let alone for one year.

not to mention that michael shumacher made over 80 million up untill last year when he retired...he was second only to tiger woods.

just look at his brother ralf...he sucks, and yet he made the international top 20.

actually, it's called old age. Shooq never knew how to play ball to begin with. He simply used his size, strength, and fat to his advantage. Now he's getting older, weaker, and dumber, so all the young players are punishing him physically. He doesn't have the skills to compensate. THAT'S why he had a bad season, regardless of any "injuries". Sorry to burst your bubble, but that's simply the truth and with each passing season the truth will become more and more evident.

Has nothing to do with what a Ferrari is worth / how many they sell, has a lot to do with what the people who watch it earn, and what advertising you can sell to them.

It's not about the cars as much as it's about the finance ads, the hotel ads, the clothing ads, the car ads (for 50 or 100k cars), etc etc etc.

he get paid that much due to
1. he has the Schumacher name. Just like Patrick McEnroe who also has a 'McEnroe'.

2. Toyota has a lot of money to throw away.

I hope Toyota get rid of him this year.

Not sure everyone realises this is the INTERNATIONAL list.. no Americans, no NBA, MLB, etc.

Oh wait there's the overall.. but the link was to the international list. Nevermind.

Amazed at Phil Mickelson's endorsement money.. dominates LeBron James.

MJ used to be pretty high on that list as well. He was making 30+ mil from ball and 50+ mil from endorsements. Pretty sad that he would lose to Tiger and Schumacher. Of course, they all lose to Oprah who made something like $150+ mil a year.

Then there's Bill..........

Unbelievable. And golf isn't even a sport!

And for those who argue otherwise, I'll acknowledge that golf is a sport if we include bowling, poker, chess, etc. in the sports category as well.

yes. Math competition is also a sport. It is also highly mental with some physical movements: you need you move your pen.

In that case, I declare going to the toilet as also being a sport and I challenge you all to a.......ok I'm gonna stop right there.

The great thing about this is that Federer increased his earnings from 2005 and now stands at #3 (31.3 million). That includes 8 million prize money.
Sharapova is at 23.8 million at #7.

It was such a shame that in 2005 Sharapova earned more than Federer and that included Federer's 7 million prize money.

well, just like Becks who can only kick on spot, but who used to be the highest earner before Ronaldinho came, and now is the highest earner in soccer again. (thanks to the american club.)

u don't have to be the best to earn the most. Sharapova is the same as Becks.
