Federer with ON Tennis shoes Dubai

It doesn't fit with roger's mystique of polished excellence to be wearing these struggle brands but whatever if that's where the money is. Hope he doesn't go from Rolex to Citizen or something

I think with it being a Swiss company has a lot to do with it.

I agree, but when Fed went with the Uniglo deal, it was all about life after Tennis as well. I see this as similar.

In cycling, like tennis, a lot of retired riders stay a part of the sport, going into roles that are very similar to that of a tennis coach, with the big teams. But there are some others. like Cadel Evans, who have instead become Brand Ambassadors for the companies that used to sponsor them after retiring. I see this in a very similar way.

In this case he is also a partner in the company, and like he did with all the input into the RF97, he is doing something similar with these new shoes. And why not. There are a lot of great brands out there that don't have the marketing of a Nike or Adidas, but they make great products. for example Hoka One One, make brilliant running shoes, and started with only a few models just like On, but they have been a underground success and now you are starting to see a lot more of them, and other brands are following some of their ideas.

For 1, I very interested to see what the end result is like.

Agreed. How someone determines those are 'on' tennis shoes from that video is beyond me. I could just as easily say he's wearing ASICS or adidas from what I saw in that grainy video.

Hell, why stop at the shoes? Let's also speculate that he's switching racquets as he's using a 'blacked out' frame! Maybe a Head?
Get real man.

Those shoes are clearly a new reebok pump prototype and my sources tell me the frame is a spalding.

Mystery (maybe) solved: Roger Advantage.

Court-inspired lifestyle shoe at a more reasonable price point than the standard Roger.

From the @Federized IG account's latest post, On Running sent this account the following:

"We imagine that you're just as excited as all of us about the news that Roger is back on the court at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open next week.

We also wanted to let you in on a little secret. This won't be like any other match! Can you already guess why? Check out Roger getting a practice round in. Maybe your community is keen to see and hear the intel ahead of the big reveal?

Looking forward to successful moments for Roger Next week." - @on_running

Oh I can't wait to try these. They have to be dropping these soon.

Exciting! Happy just to see Roger play a little bit more of tennis, but this is extra cool

Whatever it is, it doesn't look like any of the previous Nike shoes he has been wearing up until now, so it is either a new shoe from Nike for him (some of their new shoes), or it is a new ON model.

Leaning towards it being ON, given what they DM’d to Federized’s Instagram account. Posted it a few posts back. Don’t think they would send that if it was a Nike shoe. There’s also a chance Roger is no fan of the new Nike models. Vapor NXT is not being well received right now..

Trying to not get excited, but a tennis shoe from ON will be extremely interesting. There hasn't been a new player in the tennis shoes scene since forever, and now having a bit of experience with them makes me think that they will do well in many departments. Still, tennis shoes are a tricky business.

I remember they asked him (may have been a fan question) during "The Roger" reveal something along the lines of would he ever consider switching to ON for tennis shoes, and if I'm remembering it correctly, he made it sound like he wouldn't do this until he retires. Hey may have also said never say never, so don't quote me. I had put this idea to bed almost entirely.

I find it hard to believe he'd be training in ON shoes literally days before his first match back if he wasn't making the switch. Maybe he was just keeping it under wraps before?

I find the disguising of the shoe amusing. Speculatiion is the shoe is going to cost $200 or more. *gasps*

He was seen training in a nondescript shoe some months ago, and hints at ON working on something like that were being made for as far back as late 2019 when he was first seen wearing casual ON shoes to and from his practice sessions, which indicated that he has more freedom than previously, when he was entirely with Nike. Still, everyone thought that it is about the the Roger shoe and the interest went away almost completely until the aforementioned video was seen. Since then there hasn't been anything indicating that he is playing in a new shoe. They did very well hiding it, and diverting attention from anything like that in various other ways.

Yes, if he is training in that shoe, he is also playing in it, definitely. As I had the chance to mention before, there is no way that post surgery Federer, with very few years left on tour, will risk the reminder of his career by playing in something he is not confident in. If it is a new tennis shoe, it definitely has been extensively tested for a long time.

Interesting that, from what I see, it is bulkier than just about every shoe he has worn in recent times. Looks like a thicker sole, especially at the back. Looking forward to see what it is, as I am pretty sure that it will be available to buy, unlike his Nike shoes from the past many years.

There's also a chance the long layoff made him more comfortable with pulling the trigger on a switch. He's had a lot more time to test them out than he normally would.

it can't be too hard to reverse engineer a vapor by a world class company like "On"
You mean like the Hydrogen "Gel Reso-cade 9.5"?

God, Hydrogen is such an awful company with terrible designs, fabrics, and prices. They are the Athletic DNA for Europeans. This garbage attempt at a copycat shoe is all i needed to see to seal the deal in my mind. I lose respect for anyone wearing it. Feli Lopez was the latest victim. One of my favorites. I get its just a paycheck... but here we are.

Here we go again!

And why would a company that makes some of the best running shoes on the planet would need to "reverse engineer" anything?

Did they "reverse engineer" their running shoes too?
