Nike 2021 general thread

Just want to chime in before the hysterics get going... ;)

From my personal experience so far with this shoe, I would urge you to see this not as "the next Vapor" but possibly a blend of the Vapor and Cage (think Court FF 2)...this is just how I am seeing it. Thinking there may be other shoes coming from Nike that will fill your "Vapor" void in the next couple months!

I also want to add, it doesn't feel as heavy on as it does on the scale. Seriously though! :p

Ok, who has the scoop on the new React Vapor series? They look good and I'm tempted to put an order in.
Been wearing them for about 2 weeks. I had to size down. A short break in required. A little firmer but seems almost to be the progression of the zoom zero. Stay away if you have wide feet.

So is the shapo shoe, the original Knit Vapor being discontinued totally now? Did anyone like this shoe or still play with it?

Yes played with them but the arch pain was horrendous, never had this kind of problem in any nike's shoes I wore before (Breathe Cage II, CB 1.3 up to 4.3, LB, ZC 3 or even the VC4) I would like to get the X but I'm afraid this have the same issue as the Knit so I will pull the trigger for one NXT

went down 1/2 size. Seems to be a narrow last over a somewhat narrow base. Like most nikes seem to run narrow.
Damn. I like the colorways on these but now I'm afraid they may be too narrow for me.

Are they similar in width to the Cage 4? Or narrower?

Didn’t think that one through before posting. Thanks.
No problem; I don't publish the photo and the link otherwise tt removes it ;).
It is not clear if they are the economic version of the Turbo GP or a new shoe top level (on the side you can see the word Vapor)

Then summarizing, for information only:
Tiafoe: Nike zoom turbo GP - OK
Kyrgios: Nike vapor Pro - currently with non-commercial coloring
Shapovalov: No Vapor nxt
Dimitrov: No Vapor nxt
Nadal: No Vapor cage 4
The fact that it is not used by top tier professionals, I think it may lose some credibility about the validity of the shoe..
Sabalenka wearing it. Also Osaka and Tiafoe are the only pros I know of wearing the GP, so it hasn’t faced wide use either.

The fact that the flagship nike vapor nxt model (which is said to be excellent) is not worn by any prominent testimonials, at least for now, is not good publicity.
This was not the case years ago.
Just see eg. in 2000: Nike Air Oscillate I and II (Sampras), Nike air Court Motion (Rios and Hewitt), Vapor S2 (Federer) .... Not to mention Agassi

Some "known" European shopkeepers confirmed the same thing to me; if the shoe is used by professionals, the sales are higher.
"The boys want the player's shoe ...." ...Their words

So apart from them running narrower, how does the cushioning, ride height and stability compare with the ZVC4? They appear to be closer to ZVC4 than Zeros; I'm wondering - I guess because of the sock liner - if they are to ZVC4s as Vapor X Knits are to Vapor Xs?

Lol, not a very positive review o_O
I mean its not that bad. Durability of the cage on all 4 sides with the breathability of a vapor. For the modern court slider (which every company seems to be catering to) these seem like a must try. Features = weight unfortunately. Still not for me but I am glad their new 160 buck shoe is durable for once

Yea, it’s more of an expectations thing

I was hoping for a lightweight shoe, which it is not

Seems to be more of a potential GR8/FF Court/SoleCourtBoost competitor than a Ubersonic/Solution Speed competitor

@jmacdaununder2 -- Here's my personal take.

Cushioning -- It's great. I felt it was slightly more than the Vapor Cage 4 but not as plush as the GP Turbos.

Ride Height -- I'd say it is similar to the Zoom Zero which for me rides slightly higher than the Vapor Cage 4s.

Stability -- Excellent. The sole is broad and I feel really grounded in the shoe. The upper is firm (some would even call it stiff) initially but mine are starting to break-in nicely. I don't feel connected to the court like the traditional Vapors (X, 9.5, 9s) but because the shoe feels so stable, I have no hesitation in starting and stopping with authority.

It's been commented before that this shoe definitely isn't a speed shoes despite the Vapor name. My earlier post (before the Foot Doctor review) stated it was a 15+ oz shoe. Again, the "Vapor" label seems to imply a lightweight shoe but the Vapor Cage and now the NXT are anything but lightweight.

The Vapor Pro (whenever it is released) will most likely be in line with the SSFFs and Ubersonics.

I am digging on the Uber4s pretty hard, they aren't light and I have only taught in them but I will try to get some match play in Saturday.

New Vapors on the way, UPS couldn't deliver because my club was closed due to snow, should be here tomorrow. I don't know when I will be able to play on hard with them, but probably next week.

I don't feel like it would be a fair review if I played on clay.

I thought it was funny how Nike did the shoe mix thing of the vapor and cage with the cage 4 and now it’s a mix of the vapor and cage with the vapor nxt, with more cage than vapor lol. I mean imagine a vapor weighing more than a cage, kinda defeats the purpose?

That's why I'm no longer going to assume the Vapor branding automatically means a lightweight speed shoe. I'm not sure what Nike's thinking is behind the naming conventions at this stage.

have to say some of the foot docs complaints are valid. The tongue is turrible and to get them locked in requires some pain on top of foot. Like them okay but not sure I’ll change from the cage 4 to this shoe.

Yeah not a great review. The fit sounds terrible really, heavy sole, super flexible tongue that requires you to crank the laces down, and top top it off you've got a thick sole raising you off the court increasing your leverage for twisting your ankle.

So for comparison using the foot doctor's speed "measurements" in the videos:

Nike GP Turbo - 16.2 oz -- 14.48 sec speed test

Vapor NXT - 15.8 oz -- 14.80 sec speed test

Vapor Cage 4 - 15.6 oz -- 15.9 sec speed test

Of the 3 shoes listed above, the heaviest shoe has the fastest speed test and the lightest shoe has the slowest speed test. Also, the VNXT is 0.2 oz heavier than the VC4 but the VNXT is more than a full second faster than the VC4s.

Again, I like that he does the teardown of the shoes to show you what you're getting and I'm appreciative of him sharing how he feels. But as it was said before, the measurements of how fast a shoe is and how much spring/jump height the shoe gives you are anecdotal.

I really really really want Nike to just make the Vapor 9.5 tours again. Nike, just do it. Please
Probably will in like 20 years.

It’s like Nike doesn’t want to make money from tennis players. If they would do rereleases of shoes they wouldn’t need to R and D too much for new shoes. Us old folks are perfectly happy using our incomes on stuff from the past we liked. For example, I saw another 40 year old in the toy isle looking at he man toys the other day. We both were contemplating buying one.
