initially it was another application for those who had a complete system and they could use the leverage band of another purpose but we've gotten away from the surgical tubing of leverage band and go with a double cuff with 2 carabiner clips connecting which is very effective....www.apbelt.com

Just ignore him. He is a park player who thinks he knows everything and likes to hear himself talk.

That's cold?

I'm far from a park player? Jealously?

I had 4 girls receive full scholarships and two boys and a bunch partial, plus one student made it to Virginia Slims.

This isn't all that bad of an accomplishment seeing I taught tennis only part time.

And it's true.

Careful, TW will get the angry if you link to stuff you sell. Other people can do it but you can't promote your own stuff.

What is this, pick on JS day? :giggle:

You don't know jack about me. I suggest you read my posts starting from the first.

I played and taught D-1 tennis. I never did the USTA thing because I'm not all that happy with the USTA.

However, I did manage to play a dozen or so tournaments accompanying friends.

You would be surprised of the quality of "Park play" back in my day.

You guys don't realize how much tennis has changed, and not for the better.

Picking on JS, is just one example.

BTW. Do you know my age?

JS.

That's cool, you are 70+, presumably played for a DI school that people have actually heard of?

Yea, it's pick on JS day. Tomorrow we will switch to someone else, might even be me, but I feel like Jolliday is usually Thursday.

@Serve Doc Thanks for your videos. I'm going to start working on getting my chest to face the sky during my serve windup!
2) Is it better to go for a coil and release ("load and explode") with a brief pause in the trophy position (like Roddick), or a more continuous action with the arm like the Pliskova sisters?
............................................................................
.......................................................

View the timing of the 'chest up' in high speed videos. I believe that it is later.

Roddick had one of the fastest motions passing through Trophy Position. If you find videos showing otherwise, please post. Roddick had an extra down-up before TP that may have been an extra stretch shorten cycle.

In all the years I've been involved with tennis, all the instructors I knew, plenty over the years, would call this "arching your back."

"Chest to face the sky." And people think I'm the fool.

Notice the racquet deforming at impact in the Serve Doctor volley video.
What frame rate is required in order to capture this phenomena?

It is Thoracic Extension. A term that new people can find by Googling.

final_603d46773cc7e000fc077548_242013.gif

That looks like a Phantom or Olympus type high speed video camera. They probably cost $30,000. Notice how small the motion blur is.

CORRECTION - the original video shows that the ball moves much less than 2" between frames. The frame rate would be in the thousands. Perfect videos for showing all the detail that there is. Also, research cameras do not have the Jello Effect distortions that CMOS cameras have.

Frame speed if 80 MPH ball moving about 2" between frames

1760 "/sec = 100 MPH,
80/100 X 1760 "/sec = 1408" / sec

If 2" between frames 1408"/2" the frame rate would have been 704 frames per second.

I don't trust that GIF used all the camera frames that were recorded. ?

The lower cost camera can get to 700 fps or 1000 fps but they record for reduced pixels. There is a SONY camera that has a higher frame rate and better resolution, check the specs for that one. x10 or x100 models. $1000?

Many call you people flooding the net with foolishness, "video queens."

And it's not just tennis.

JS
Not sure your motivation but trolling for self pleasure is what you're all about apparently....that's why I have over 7000 followers on both Youtube and Instagram and nearly 200 colleges using my movement training system not to mention the most extensive video collection I wrote and produced for Hall of Fame Nick B in the industry....what about You? Again ...what are you contributing of value besides senseless commentary.

but saying it that way (to me) is the exact opposite of how'd i do it... i accomplish the chest to sky position from a deep knee bend and getting on my toes... i want to keep my back straight, else i injure it.

Yea well, call it "just leaning back." I've used this.

I like "arching your back" better because this is exactly what it is. Children and adults can easily understand this.

JS

I believe that arching your lower back has much more risk of injury than arching your Thoracic spine. See videos on what is being done in the serve. Google: Thoracic Spine tennis serve.

Read back my dear friend. You absolutely trolled me first. I troll no one, I tell it like it is and try to be kind.

You're in it for the exposure and the money. There are guys like you all over the internet and I meet plenty of guys just like you over my lifetime. I tried to watch your videos.

Kapwing tool was used to create a gif from YouTube
video. I suspect Kapwing drops frames when creating a gif.

This is the original Serve Doctor volley video.

Does YouTube drop frames when Serve Doctor uploads the slow motion video to YouTube?

I have not noticed Youtube deleting frames of my videos when they video process and create Youtube videos for storage.

I have seen frame dropping when doing single frame advance on Youtube. When you press the period key one time, maybe the video advances two or more frames. This seems to happed sometimes with my videos, especially the side-by-side ones.

UPDATE - On the original video in the quote, when I press the period button to try to advance one frame it often does not advance at all. ?

I don't know what the frame rate was the ball moves much less than 2" between frames. The frame rate is in the 1000s.

Because it's not just "leaning back". You're actually moving your center of gravity over your feet and forward, bending your knees, which puts you on the balls of your feet to get your chest upward facing.

You're watching too many videos and listening to people who know squat. They make too much out of instruction which isn't necessary.

on line, they compete with each other for "numbers" and make up BS to be different or to be a bit outstanding. Like that guy I see on the net, "Master tennis instructor." I've mentioned this before early on.

I've been around way to long and seen so much to not play into the foolish goings on on the net. And don't hammer me or put words in my mouth,, there is some great stuff on line, but the foolishness out ways the good stuff.keep balance

My CG doesn't change and at this point in the serve, your's shouldn't either. This is something you don't know. with luck, instead of fighting, maybe you'll learn.

How in the F%$@ could you possible know if I watch too many video's? Talk about presumptuous! The irony of you saying "don't hammer me or put words in my mouth" is astounding really.

i will try to make this question make sense. Raonic starts out with his racquet strings that will hit the ball pointing up. There is some fancy term for this.

Raonic-1.jpg

My question is does he stay in this position through out the serve? Meaning when the hand is by the ear on the way up like at that racquet drop, is the top of the hand pointing up or is that palm pointing up?

When you think about a neutral position of the hand when you grab something like a hammer, the index knuckle is actually a little to the right of the heel pad hence I think it makes sense that a true continental grip should be more like bevels 1-2 or 2-2.5 rather than 2-2.

Misplaced eye? You should try for something closer to this:

Or, with the help of a Hollywood makeup artist, you might achieve this:

"arch ur back" is a terrible cue for anyone familiar w modern motor learning

Stop going on line.

No instructor, worth a grain of salt, is saying, "Like doing back hand springs." It's just a key phrase that allows the student to "lean back" a bit. Start small then add as the student progresses. Like eating a meal, one bite at a time. Brick by brick.

Plus remember, all these "on line tennis queens" and I didn't coin this phrase, they are not in your company correcting anything your doing immediately. And this is a huge issue and always has been.

The greatest advantage, is having someone, with a good deal of instructional technique, "fixing" or "changing" what the student is doing, which is incorrect, immediately.

Yea, continue for a full day or a few weeks period of time, doing something which is incorrect and a detriment, i.e., incorrect technique. See how long it takes to repair the issue with an average student. Some players do incorrect things their entire lives! Why?

Over the years, I've had tons of players come to me with many issues related to improper teaching techniques from poor quality tennis instructors. Many played tennis for 10-20 years and more, and still aren't doing things correct.

Like a ping pong ball, they're bouncing around from one instructor to another. Spending money, putting in the time and getting nothing in return. Seen this a thousand times.

Everyone is an instructor today. Gee, did I say this early on.

good coaches r constantly learning and refining which is y i honestly cant respect u as an "instructor"

Fine, but you're not even giving me a chance? And that's OK, because I understand.

These are your early posts.

You're correct. The Forum is full of foolish Threads and replies.

And these guys did hit with topspin. Research Bill Tilden. See what you learn.
There's just some people not worth reading. :p
I'll be ignoring forever. :D :D :D
A "what if" kind of thinking, in many social circles isn't entertained seriously.

I lived that era and I can tell you from being there, you've missed out on plenty. And there's no way you can get it unless you lived it.

"Time machine?"

Start with the earnings. Players back then couldn't afford individual trainers for selected strokes like they do today. They have different people for everything, including specialists just to analyze and improve footwork.

Equipment didn't have the engineering today's rackets have. That offered limitations which was no fault of any player, you had equipment which was available and that's it.

Conditioning today is a good part of the game and obviously, ground exchanges are longer because of the "baseline" style of play.

Sure, it would be interesting for today's ATP or WTA players to use the rackets from the 60's or 70's. Same with the players of the past to play baseline tennis, but they aren't young any longer and cannot move as well. They do use equipment that is available today.

Who is using wood?

You also have to factor in the science. Yea, there's science taking place during the hitting process on all variations of stroke production and shot making. The science hasn't changed.

Today's tennis is filled with overzealous everything. I have difficulty with commentators who are bias and sometimes it's obvious.

And they know so little and won't stop talking. Tennis is getting like wrestling.

I don't enjoy viewing it like I did years ago.

Many of you have missed a great deal.

I came into the Forum to help players get better, not to sell on line videos or stuff and to bring exposure to my on line marketing.

I'm not a "Pied Piper."

Sure, I talk and sound different and many have an issue with this but I cannot be "run of the mill."

I've seen run of the mill my whole life as far back as the really early 70's. I'm referring to incompetent tennis instructors.

There's still plenty around, but without "education," it's not obvious. Like a carpenter, they get the job kinda done, but you can see something is missing with the results. I made great tennis players and they looked different on the court. You could see and "feel" their talent. :D:D

Just BLOCK me if you cannot digest my experience and methods, especially if you're not really taking in what I'm saying.

So easy.
