Another heavy loss for Mad Lad! In the match against Simon, Mad won only 4 games, in the second set was a bagel!
I think lots of people forget that Simon is the mastermind who made Djokovic hit 100 UEs in a match while seemingly doing nothing atvall.Daniil Medvedev merely adopted the flat junkball tennis.
Simon created it. He illuminated it. He didn't see a pretty shot until he was already a man.
My favorite Simon match is against Del Potro at Wimbledon 2018. It's easily the most forgotten match of that tournament. Simon had ****ed so much with Del Potro's mind that Del Potro kept trying to hit dropshots and he was missing almost all of them.I think lots of people forget that Simon is the mastermind who made Djokovic hit 100 UEs in a match while seemingly doing nothing atvall.
Imagine if Simon has weapons ? He is one of the smartest tactical players everMy favorite Simon match is against Del Potro at Wimbledon 2018. It's easily the most forgotten match of that tournament. Possibly.Wow, this is a bad loss for him. I wonder if last year was a fluke where he played way over his limit and is now back to his real level?

That's what I thought at first too. What the heck is the matter with Medvedev? Since losing to Stan in a 4 setter at the AO he's getting straight-setted right, left and centre in the early rounds by players he should be easily beating.
That's what I thought at first too.
But his 0-3 record against Simon begins to fill in the picture for me a little better.
Simon could simply be a bad match up for him.
So bad a match-up that he let himself get bagelled?
Wonder what the excuse was for losing in straights to Pospisil in Rotterdam?
He is a great talent.Funny how just weeks ago people were acting like Med was some great talent. A guy who made zero noise on tour until age 23 (almost 24). Now he gets bageled by 35 year old Simon. Smh.

Oh so he did the reverse this time. He was great in October-February this time but now he sucks again.Daniil's low-key been terrible since October. Completely different guy since Shanghai.
In all seriousness, Lajovic can actually play at a pretty high level. At ATP cup last year the dude was on fire.Did Medvedev completely fall apart mentally? What happened against Lajovic? I don't think Lajovic should be able to outplay him...
I know he can play, but not often and only when the opponent lets him in. Medvedev is supposed to choke out your game, get your uncomfortable and make you play shots you otherwise wouldn't. And really I just meant in light on Med's 20-match win streak that only just ended, he'd be expected to play if not great, well enough at least. In all seriousness, Lajovic can actually play at a pretty high level. At ATP cup last year the dude was on fire.
Having said that, having only watched the highlights, it looked like Med was kinda flat and his timing wasn't quite there.
This is supposedly our next ATG. The future world #1 and multislam winner.Did Medvedev completely fall apart mentally? What happened against Lajovic? I don't think Lajovic should be able to outplay him...
He couldn't hit through Lajovic, the court played too slow. For whatever reason, that wasn't gameplanned for despite practicing in Rott all week. He tried to shorten points by coming forward, and while it worked some of the time, it's not really his style and not as effective as his normal gamestyle. And Lajovic deserves a ton of credit, he played a great match.Did Medvedev completely fall apart mentally? What happened against Lajovic? I don't think Lajovic should be able to outplay him...
Simon’s playing style, pretty much.I think lots of people forget that Simon is the mastermind who made Djokovic hit 100 UEs in a match while seemingly doing nothing at all.
Tbh he gets praised too much for that match. Another way you could look at it is that Djokovic played one of his worst matches ever (which was admittedly partly caused by how Simon plays) and still managed to win. I mean, no one calls Istomin or Chung a genius mastermind and they actually beat the man.I think lots of people forget that Simon is the mastermind who made Djokovic hit 100 UEs in a match while seemingly doing nothing atvall.
Are you actually comparing the Djokovic in the middle of winning 4 consecutive Slams to the one in the middle of not winning anything of note for 2 years and losing to everyone and their mother at some point?Tbh he gets praised too much for that match. If you want to give Simon some credit, I would choose the fact that he managed to beat Federer twice and Nadal once in 2008 when they were both dominating, all in Tier 1 tournaments.
Well, there's multiple ways to look at it. You could also say that Chung and Istomin were the only ones to beat Djokovic at his favorite slam since 2011 where he's now got a 91% winning percentage. It was in a time period where he was playing badly but it's not like he was injured to the point where he couldn't hold his racket. He won Wimbledon 2018 but he was totally incompetent 5 months earlier? Anyway, my point wasn't even that they should get more credit but rather that someone shouldn't get so much credit just for taking Djokovic to 5, who's known to go full drunken master and miss shots left and right once in a while. Are you actually comparing the Djokovic in the middle of winning 4 consecutive Slams to the one in the middle of not winning anything of note for 2 years and losing to everyone and their mother at some point?
Fed, who lost to Berdych that same Wimbledon? Or Isner who's only obivous tactic is serve and pray? Also wasn't really Nadals best RG run, or one of his best seasonsWell, there's multiple ways to look at it. Otherwise we can start adding Falla (Fed Wimbledon), Isner (Rafa RG), and Simon (again for his matches against Federer in grand slams) among others to the list of tactical masterminds.
I didn't say I didn't want to credit him. I specifically said he did other things that actually warrant praise like beat the Big 2 (when there was only a Big 2) in the midst of their dominance. I mean, I could congratulate him for the match against ND and send him a bouquet of flowers and a postcard if it makes you feel better, but I'm pretty sure even he would be like "umm you know I lost that match right?"Fed, who lost to Berdych that same Wimbledon? Seriously, nobody is pretending Djokovic played well that match, but Simons track record of mindfucking opponents is long enough.
Hey but why credit a player when you can strawman, cherry pick and use false equivalences.
At the beginning of the 21st century, there were discussions that world tennis would be decline after the departure of Sampras and Agassi, but Big 3 appeared instead. I don't think the state of world tennis will be as you describe it. There will be new champions and tennis will still be one of the most watched sports.People have been overrating Medvedev on this forum. His current results are in line with his talent and potential.
Even the bookies game him a chance vs Novak at AO. LOL. This is because we are all SO DESPERATE to have the big 3 hegemony broken that we are blind to the failures of the next gen.
Truth is that there is NO GREAT player in the next gen. There is NOT EVEN ANYONE as good as Murray among the current folks. Forget about Nadal/Djokovic/Fed type great player.
Once the big 3 retire - tennis popularity will decline and the game will die. No good youngsters join Tennis these days. They go to other lucrative sports.
Tennis history will forever have the 70s,80s and 90s as the golden era.
AMERICAN tennis is already dying. In a few years, post Fedalovic, Global tennis will be dying as well.
We will not have champions of Big 3 format waiting for us in the near future, but such a Sinner or Tsitsipas could have a Lendl or Becker career, ie 6-8 grandslams. Medvedev can win 4 grandslams, as can Courier or Vilas. And these are not small numbers! These are impressive careers, but the view of us fans is much skewed by the results of the Big 3, which are in a different dimension. It will be. Because of dearth of talent. We won't ever see anyone as good as the Big 3. I'm willing to bet on that.
Let's face it - Tennis is not just the most premier destination for best and the most talented athletes. There are other sports which are easier and richer..
I remember when Simon pushed Nadal to death in Madrid 2008. Just endlessly long rallies throughout. Fun match!Daniil Medvedev merely adopted the flat junkball tennis.
Simon created it. He illuminated it. He didn't see a pretty shot until he was already a man.
Every non-Big3 player who gets destroyedIs there a thread like this for every ATP player?
Why is Nadal mentioned in every subject.I remember when Simon pushed Nadal to death in Madrid 2008. Just endlessly long rallies throughout. Fun match!
They're talking about junkball tennis above which Simon specialized in. The same type of tennis which beat Federer and Nadal in 2008. The Nadal match was one of Simon's best performances although it's unfair to call it junk balling. He hit some blazing forehands in that match which even Del Potro would be proud of.Why is Nadal mentioned in every subject.
