Federer out. What does this mean?

I really think, if this is something to go by, Federer might be on his last rodeo. We'll have to see. Federer trolls, please vent somewhere else.

Idk what people are really expecting...... father time is undefeated. About to be 40 and had surgery, second match back.....

It was obvious that he was a step behind his normal self for most of the match and especially the 3rd set. Not putting in that extra effort to get to the ball etc. Kind of concerning, not sure weather its the knee or just fitness, hopefully fitness which is understandably less than it could be and can improve easily. I had big hopes for his comeback but this result makes me very concerned. Keep at it Roger!

Always best to keep expectations low. This is more directed at some of the Fed fans who think he can win Wimbledon this year. It’s best not to expect much from him now.

I find it interesting that Djokovic fans find it necessary to give advice on what Fed fans should or shouldn't do.

BTW, you are wrong. Fed will be alright come Wimbledon.

It’s good to dream. It’s best though you think with your head and not your heart. It will save you from disappointment that is all. By alright yeah sure. If makes he makes 4th round he will have done alright for sure.

He's another Andy Murray. that is what it means

Actually, i would say he's even beneath Murray.

Murray with his bionic hip can still scramble all over the court for 3 hours.

Fed simply cannot get to the ball anymore.

He can't get to the serves.

He's good at putting away sitters, serving and volleying.

This match proved to me he's actually already retired, except for the gallery.

Federer looks sluggish, slow and unfit. He got tired today after 30 minutes of matchplay. A prompt Dubai withdrawal is totally on the cards here, imo.

Obviously you judge by your own way of thinking how other people react. That is the problem with giving them advice.

That was expected. But he also said after his match with Evans he hadn't played pain-free. He might well retire this season.

His defeat of Evans was very impressive. He had a match point in this one. The problem with the Swiss Maestro is his own legacy, the bar is so high that even such great play is deemed negatively by some.

I actually think it’s remarkable Fed is even competing at all. I mean multiple knee surgeries, nearly 40 and off tour for 14 months. Nearly everyone else would have called it a day and you wouldn’t blame them. I actually credit him for having the drive to give it another go against all odds.

I am at a loss why you think that what you say is something new for the Fed fans (apart from the part where they should be "lowering their expectations" of course. That is their (our) business).

Drive? It's fear. His records, everything he has worked for is being steadily erased from the record books. The only reason he has played for this long is to stop Nadal, only for Djokovic to emerge as arguably the the bigger threat. Not holding a single important record by the time his career is over he will have to exit the GOAT discussion. This matters to Roger.

I totally agree. He fears losing the records to both of them. He has all the money and played enough matches. It’s purely to try protect the records he can but it can actually backfire big time if he starts losing to anyone like Murray is now.

Keep that in mind next time you want to tell me to "stay in my lane", especially over a non-existent issue.

Touchy, are we? I actually said that it is obvious why the poster is turning up just after Fed's loss, but since you don't take a hint obviously I should spell it out for you: trolling is what Djoke fans do best.

P.S. And stay in your lane.

And this is the point where this turns into an arguing and trolling thread between fans of the big three. Not being a enormous fan of any of the big three, this is fun to watch.

Not at all. And the poster has always been around, he didn't just turn up after Fed's loss. You managing to interpret his or my earlier comments as trolling is a whole different story lol. What I am saying is that for all the talk how people should mind their own business and how baiting is bad, you never took your own advice. :(

It means nothing. If we reach the fall and he's still having similar results after having played a number of tournaments, then I'd be getting worried. Let's wait until then to judge his form.

i think its odd he keeps mentioning hes gearing up/trying to peak for the "grass court season" 3-4 months away....
what is that... two tournaments?

On that MP, Fed received a strong serve that he could only chip back short, then Basil followed up with a good putaway. So I'd think that hardly counts as part of Fed's record of lost "choked" MP opportunities. As for where he goes from here, I think Fed was satisfied that he still had the abilities and game to hang in the matches, where he and his team saw where he needs to try to improve, and seems decided on continuing to play more throughout this year.

This happens when I put my top guns on at football manager when they are still 4 days out and no sharpness.

It means he is lacking matches and no more reason to watch Doha.
