Nishikori custom Vapors

Anyone know what Nishikori is wearing? Prior to this year, it looked like he was wearing custom colorway Vapor X’s but now it appears that he backtracked and is using custom 9.5s? It’s really hard to tell with any pictures but I can kind of see the Vapor 9/9.5 pattern on the side of the shoe where the plastic was. Can anyone confirm?

Yeah it’s a vapor 9.5, he gets special modifications to his shoe like more rubber around the toes and things like that.

He wears custom vapor 9.5.
I had his shoes before (sold it) but a little different than retail version.
Also the shoes is wide-fit.

Was he using the same shoe prior to this year, just with the chassis of an X? I remember his white, light blue, and red limited edition X’s and those were clean.

He briefly tested vapor x version but still it was customized for him in my memory but he returned to his custom vapor 9.5.

If vapor 9/9.5 has durable outsole, I will not change new shoe for rest of my life but unfortunately, Nike discontinued and released vapor x which does not fit at all for me. I don’t have any shoe fitting issue until vapor x.
Fortunately I stocked decent amount of vapor 9/9.5s which might last least 3 years so I might be able to skip entire vapor x versions. Hope I will not see glue problems for those shoes.

I read the 9/9.5 has a less durable outsole than the X. Of course they are speed shoes so they probably won’t last that long but it is just a couple extra hours.

Vapor 9.5 is still probably my favorite pair of shoes in terms of comfort and speed BUT the outsole was horrendous even when I used it as a 12-year-old. Would love to have a stock of 9/9.5's like yours to get me through at least the first couple years of college ;/

Kind of related to the topic but does anyone know why Nishikori switched from the bulky Barricades to the lighter Vapors? I would've thought he would change to something like the Lunar Ballistec/Courtballistec or even Cages at the time as those were a bit more like the Barricade.

I assume he wanted a speed/lightweight oriented shoe. Nike is also big in Japan, especially w/ the sneakerheads. Also, Nike probably payed more for endorsements/advertising. Like others have said, his shoe is the ZV9.5 mold w/ the Court Ballistec 4.3 drag-on toe guard on the medial side. He did briefly used a hybrid of the ZV9.5 and ZV10.

I just saw some of his PE shoes on the big bidding site and took screenshots to share here of the big differences he has vs the public. They are like a combined version shoe made up of 48% Vapor Tour 9.5 (some of the plastic outside "wrapping", most outsole (w/ slight difference), whole toe guard), 48% Air Zoom Vapors (other part of plastic piece on outside ("teeth"), exterior of shoe that connects bottom of shoe with top/laces), and just (about... maybe less than) 4% Courtballistec 3.4 (inside slide guard area).

P.S. the last photo is the clay version of his outsole

I'd actually die to get those shoes, close to perfect in my opinion. Wish you could customize shoes like this on Nike with the outsole and the side guard and everything.
