New Yonex Vcore (for 2020 or 2021 ?)

Strung up the VCore98 with a full bed of VS Gut at 55 and played with it yesterday. It felt fantastic with lot of power and pop!
I'm warming up to this racket and with a little customization I think it can be the right stick for me.

Guys, 98+ I think is going to be my main stick for here on out. I've been going back and forward with the 98+ and VCP 97HD and I just played in a tournament over the weekend and did some great things with the 98+.

What's going on with the QC of the new 2021 vcore line? Seems a number of users are reporting that the weight and balance is correct but swingweight is massivley under spec?

Well, first you'd have to show me the "spec" for VCOREs Swing Weight. Because, it's not listed anywhere here:
I think people forget what TW lists as 'specs' aren't manufacturer's specs. They are an average of frames (8-10?) that they strung up & measured.

Just finished playing a few sets of dubs and 2 sets of singles with the VC100.21+.
Yonex Precision Scan specs:
Unstrung/Strung Swing Weight: 306/338 kg/cm2
Effective Unstrung/Strung Swing Weight: 323.5/352.7 kg/cm2
Weight Unstrung/Strung as played: 300.5/321.7 gm
Unstrung/Strung Balance: 333/340 mm
L/R weight: 72.5/72.8
String: Volkl V-Torque Tour 1.10mm mains 53lbs, Tecnifibre Pro Red Code Wax 1.20mm crosses 50lbs

From what I remember of the SV100+, and the VC100.18+, the .21 version plays more similarly to the .18 than the SV. The VC100.21+ is just under 3 pts headlight, with a Wilson overgrip on it. That's the only mod I put on. Off the ground, it was quite whippy (my usual spec is 344+g) and the string pattern does have good grip. However it does leave the string bed in a hurry, like the previous version. That, combined with power, and the higher launch angle, players will have to be a tad more aggressive with the angle they contact the ball to keep the control of depth at full swings, which can affect consistency. The nice side effect of that is I never felt the need to swing out 100%, even on scrambling shots. Inside the court, the bite and power made it difficult for me to be ultra aggressive going for short angles with power, but still had good spin. Feel was muted, compared to the VC100.18+, but I could still feel a smidge of string movement.
At net, it is very lively and grippy, which I had to adjust for incoming heavy spin passing shots. The first few volleys I messed up in game play because the heavy spin caught the strings and affected my trajectory. Once I adjusted, it was a competent punch and drive volley stick, especially the overheads where I liked the snappiness of the frame and grip of the strings. The only time I felt the extra length/swing weight impeded the stroke was on the high backhand smash, where snapping the wrist was a little too sluggish with the added heft.
The serve is where I suspect most people will appreciate this racquet the most. It has great power and spin potential, and combined with decent mechanics, it can boost the serve. I especially liked the flatter wide ad court serve, because the added power meant I could hit the sideline 3-4 ft above the bottom line more often, something I struggle to do above 55% the time and definitely with less overall speed.
Overall, it's just too powerful for me to use right now, since I'd have to hit with extra aggressively closed racquet face to temper that added power, and the muted feel is just not helpful in grooving into the racquet quickly. The 16x19 pattern is nice and grippy, with a livably high launch angle (compared to my 16x20 SV98+), and the serving is awesome with this stick, so it would work well for those looking for a power stick.
I should add I have to restring it after the 4th set. The string pattern is open and has a high launch but not Babolat high.

@Sardines, when are you getting the 98? And any info on official release date?

I’ve been awaiting the release ever since I play tested the regular length version.

I’m first off saying that I’m a proud Ezone Tour owner, HOWEVER because of some golfers elbow I decided to demo the VCore 95/98.

Day 1 I hit with my ball machine. They both played well. I felt more connected to the 95 than the 98. Both are spin friendly as advertised. The biggest differences between the two is the control. The 95 is a point and shoot type of racquet. I like a heavier racquet also, so the 95 suited my style. I feel that in a match with strong 4.0 or 4.5 players the 98 might get pushed around because of the pace and lack of weight. Day 2 of my Yonex VCore 95 demo. It’s selfish to say I didn’t even pick up the VCore 98. I attended a 2 hour tennis clinic and never put the VCore 95 down. On this outing, I hit with/against other players. Let me say the VCore 95 plays like a 98, but even better. You don’t even notice that the headsize is smaller. Maybe because of the Yonex isometric design. The 95 did EVERYTHING well and right. I had amazing ground strokes and volleys were again effortless. Serving OMG! Serving was easy and powerful. I served bombs with this racquet!!! It played so well that I forgot I was demoing, I just played tennis. I love my Ezone Tours, but this VCore 95 has me seriously thinking about adding it into my arsenal. Or even replacing my EZT altogether. I also think the 95 would be an excellent choice for a high level doubles player. If anyone is the least bit curious about the new Yonex VCores I would say demo them.

I strung both the 95 and 98 with Gamma Synthetic Gut 16 in the mains 55lbs and Yonex Poly Tour Pro Blue 16L in the crosses 52lbs.

Just picked it up when I returned the 100+. No idea on release. I doubt I'll switch based on my VC98.21 test.

Please let us know if you experience any post-demo arm issues. I decided to try a long-term-demo of the 2021 Vcore 95, so I ordered one, and got it strung with Wilson NXT Power 17 at 50 pounds. The weather is starting to warm up in my area, so hopefully I can try it very soon. Last October, I tried a one-week-demo of the Ezone Tour, and absolutely loved it, but I never could find one like the demo, which had a strung weight of 328g and 32.5cm balance. My elbow is fairly sensitive, so I probably wouldn’t have liked it, had it been true to spec.

So I played a match with it tonight and normally I play with a compression brace on my forearm/elbow. I didn't even need it tonight and post match no icing either. I'm convinced unfortunately the Ezone Tour is not going to be a good fit for me.:(
Bright side to it all, I'm switching over to the VCore 95! :p

Very nice. Congrats!

Hopefully, mine will be easy on the arm too. It's 323g strung with a 32.0cm balance.

Seems like all of us EZT players are moving over. I've switched over to the VCore98.. but missing some control in that. Will demo the 95 and see if it's any better. Good luck with the TE healing. I wonder if there is a way to contact Yonex and let them know about so much problem people had with EZT.

well...decided to get my Yonex experience on.

I have only 3 days out with the vCore 95 2021 so will save my thoughts on it. I haven't played with Yonex much. Only one I own is an RD7. Been playing mostly with the Volkl vSense 10 Tour weighted up as well as a Head 360+ Prestige Mid weighted up. I could contribute to the specs though

with plastic on handle
Balance - 11 / 309
SW - 286
Weight - 308

plastic removed
11 / 310
285
307

Currently playing it with Dynawire 17g at 48#

I might put a round poly in it today at 43 or 45

Pulled the trigger on two VCore 95’s! Very excited to get them in. I ordered them from the competition’s website though. TennisWarehouse wanted to add an extra $28 dollars in taxes! I got two for $226 with a discount code, no tax, and free shipping.

i used to be a diehard yonex fan (vcp97 310) but then shank shock happened. A few too many mishits and I started to feel twinges in my elbow aka early onset of tennis elbow. I also used the ezone98 2020 that did not feel great for my arm. Then a college coach told me the pure strike 3rd gen is like a pro staff but with my power. I haven’t liked any babolat racquets since the swirly red pure control version back in the day but Babolat finally got it right. This stick is a winner. Babolat’s flexiest racquet that still provides good pop/soft feel. For all of those in pain, Babolat has come to the rescue! The sweetspot feels enormous and much more forgiving than the vcp97. I’ve realized most of the pain comes from shank shock in the form of mishits. Pure strike feels like it has the sweetspot of the clash 98 but maneuverability of the v7 blade while still providing solid plowthrough.

There’s been some complaints about arm pain with the new 2020 Ezone line. I used to have the EZone Tour and gave the VCore a demo and fell in love. Glad to hear you found a racquet that suits you.

Did you go full bed or hybrid?
I did a full bed of Dynawire. I often do a full bed of synthetic on racquets new to me. Helps me get an understanding of the frame as the string is honest and doesn't usually add any features like a shaped poly. Very bland string but I was happy with it. I did not put the poly in yet and will prob do that today

I tried the ezone tour for a bit. there is something about the weight distribution on it I think that made me uncomfortable with the racquet. But it was only for about 10 minutes and am open to giving it another go with a proffered string set up.

I switched to synthetic gut about 3-4 months ago. It is a very underrated string. I like gamma synthetic gut 16 in the red the best. I ended up experimenting with syn gut/poly and poly/syn gut. I ended up finding out that I really liked the way syn gut/poly played

That seems to a common theme, players are referencing the weight and balance on the EZT. I honestly still think that the EZT can play very well with the right string set up.

I hear you about a nice synthetic. I went with a poly/synthetic today in the 95. I am not sure what the poly was. It was in an un-marked bag that I got from a friend. I think it is a pros pro string that looks to be 5 sided. will see how this turns out.

What string set ups have you heard that worked well in the EZT? I'm curious to try the EZ98...might be able to borrow an old one just for fun.

I went EZ98 > EZ Tour > Vcore98.

The EZ98 was nice, but just a bit low in the SW for me. adding weight wasn't bad, but something felt a bit off. surprisingly stiff on contact for a "soft racquet".
The EZ Tour was great, SW just right for me. But difficult to play great doubles with it being a bit sluggish. Really needs some weight in the handle.
Then tried the new Vcore98. Decided to keep the stock weight after experimenting and the stock SW feels good to me. Don't believe the static measurements, cause I think this is easier on the arm than the ezones.

Serving with all three felt very good. The EZT probably has the most oomph with the extra weight towards the head. But I prefer spin serves, and the EZ98 and Vcore98 are easier to cut the ball with.
Returning is easiest with the Vcore98. The extra power (Being more open pattern) helps getting depth, esp on open stance returns.

Spin: Vcore98 > EZ98 > EZT
Power: Vcore98 > EZT > EZ98
Control: EZT > EZ98 > Vcore98*
Comfort: Vcore98 > EZ98 > EZT
Volley: EZ98 > Vcore98 > EZT
*the vcore has good directional control from the baseline. but it's the hardest one to find the touch for dropshots, drop volleys, etc

strung ezone98 2020 with combos of sppp hextreme 1.25/ v star 1.20 VCT 16g/SPPP17L at 38/36 and felt ok but still not as plush or as powerful as my vcp97 310g or pure strike 98 3rd gen 16x19. Not sure what it is but ezone feels underpowered and is just kind to my arm. I agree with other people that the hoop could use 1-2g lead tape at 10/2. I tried 1g at 10/2 but still didnt enjoy ezone as much as vcp97 which has surgical control that i love or my pure strike which has intoxicating pop + super forgiving sweetspot

you try the other vcp like the hd or 100 sq in? regular vcore?
never heard anyone say the vcp97 310 was more power than the ezone98.

ive tried the HD and vcp100, I like the maneuverability + pop of the 97 310 version the best. HD didnt have enough pop for me and the 100 was ok but the control of the 97 was much better as the sweetspot of the 100 felt a bit vague to me. I never said the vcp97 had more power than ezone...the ezone just felt underpowered for the amount of power that head size racquet is supposed to have (should be similar to clash98) while vcp97 had way more control for the trade off in power since it is a thin beamed racquet

Im mostly a Duel G/Vcore Pro guy, but since I sold my previous generation EZONE, I wanted to pick up another Yonex tweener mostly for clay court use/full poly in wet conditions or if I feel like using a lighter frame.

Ordered a new Vcore 98 with 17g Hyper-G @ 49lbs. First impression: too light and too powerful. Added 2g total at 10&2 + 5g under the cap and replaced the strings with Lux Big Banger Original 1.3 @ 51lbs. Tried it out last weekend and it's a much better setup with comfort off the charts. The VDM implementation in this racquet seems to be so effective that "stiff" strings are no problem.

With my EZT I initially tried an all synthetic gut set up at 55lbs then 57lbs. That set up works great except there was a lot of movement in the stringbed. I’m not a string breaker, but after 2-3 hitting sessions the string bed was mangled and unplayable. I found a good balance with syn gut/poly.Gamma synthetic gut 16 57lbs and Yonex Poly Tour Pro 16L 54lbs.

yeah I think the average swingweight on these VCs is sub 320sw is my guess. I have ordered vc98 and put in a request to target 295-297ish sw unstrung.. 17g HG will add about 28sw pts to 16x19... so... that would get me to mid 320s strung. The heaviest frame (SW-wise) they were able to find was 292sw. So that is about 320sw strung. Yonex QC is fine but they only state balance and static weight... and they come in tight but the variance on SW, although probably (do not know for sure) tighter than other brands, still probably would be +/-10. Part of the problem also not knowing the true average SW is. I can assure you that average of SW on vc98 at the current TW inventory is lower than 320... I actually do think this racket probably 317sw or so, hence there are so many people in this thread that thought SW came in so much lighter than what TW measured in their initial batch. It is interesting though... I remember also when they released TT100(310) first initial batch average measured about 6pts higher than the true average as they got more rackets, hence they revised it down on the website. Ok... long story short.. do not expect that you are getting 325sw racket when you order the vc98. I am yet to hit with it but love the look.... Got mine strung HG Soft 17g at 51lbs....

My previous review of the VC98.21 pretty much reflects what I feel about the +.
Since I felt it was close enough to the VC98.18+, I went straight to play and didn't do the usual playsight testing. It's got a bit more power in the upper hoop especially, and feels slightly more stable. Maneuverability is about the same, except the weight feels more in the middle, giving it a depolarized feel. Off the ground, the lower swing weight does allow a bit more wrist snappy. Strangely I feel since the SV98+, the VC series doesn't swing as "whippily" or freely, despite the identical weight specs.
The extra power allowed me to get a couple more of the ad court wide (I'm right handed) flat first serves in without having to mod the frame to increase the swing weight. Normally I need to be a bit more grooved and timing to hit 2-4 ft up the sideline with over 50% consistency, with a lighter, lower swing weight racquet. I'm pretty sure if I had it modified to my specs, I would like the serving aspect of the '21.
Downsides:
- Low side spin short volleys against heavy spin and dipping passing shots were as difficult as the 98.18+ for me. The stringbed grips ok, but the extra bounce just pushes the ball a bit longer, even with my softest touch. I can hit shorter with the SV98+.
- Muted feel, especially on volleys. It's ok on groundstrokes. It's not horribly dead but the muted feel lacks the crispness of the SV98+, but there is a broad sense of feel, just not like the 98.18+
- The depolarized nature makes its quite different from the previous generations. Nothing 3-4g of weight in the hoop won't solve.

Yonex Precision Scan specs (with 8g butt putty in butt cap):
Strung Swing Weight: 337 kg/cm2
Effective Strung Swing Weight: 351.2 kg/cm2
Weight Unstrung/Strung as played: 304.8/332.2 gm
Strung Balance: 329mm
L/R weight: 73.6/74.7
String: Volkl V-Torque Tour 1.10mm mains 51lbs, Tecnifibre Pro Red Code Wax 1.20mm crosses 47lbs

Hey everyone,

Just tried out a Vcore 98 2021 to compare to my usual blade v7 16 x 19, both strung with Confidential at 48lbs.

Strung Weight with Wilson Pro Overgrip
Blade: 326g
Yonex: 323g

I was a bit disappointed in how much more 'solid/stable' my blade felt. I felt like I was generating easier power and depth on my blade and I was really struggling with returns on the Yonex, I just wasn't able to bunt / short swing big serves back in (let's just assume technique was okay). I was hoping the Yonex would be 'easier' with its thicker beam and higher stiffness. Wondering if there are similar thoughts? Planning to add maybe a gram of lead tape at 3 & 9 each and see how I go.

I finally demoed the VCore 95 last night(I play with a 98). At first it felt great to me, very plush and solid through contact.

Then i started hitting with a high level college player and struggled hitting his fast shots back. I switched back to the 98 and it was much easier to keep up with him. 95 still seems a great racket but at least for my game under pressure I need the slightly larger frame to compensate. I will try it out some more today and rest of the week, but feel like I made the right choice with the 98inch frame.

On a separate note, I have strung the 98 with Champions Choice at 55/50 and it feels absolutely fantastic!

Yes, adding lead will definitely help. You probably also need some more time to adjust to the frame as well, maybe another hitting session? I find it quite easy to bunt/chip the big serves with the 98, it also provides a wicked slice imho.

Great point, I know I got very enticed by Karue's review that 95 is the best Yonex racket out there, so I had to check it out. Everyone's level and playing style needs to be accounted for as well when making these decisions. 98 hits the right balance of control and power for my game.

Great point, I know I got very enticed by Karue's review that 95 is the best Yonex racket out there, so I had to check it out. Everyone's level and playing style needs to be accounted for as well when making these decisions. 98 hits the right balance of control and power for my game.
LOL me too I followed a thread about it here on TT and watched his review and I was sold. Karue hits every day for like 6hrs a day, plus he gets paid to be consistent (gets the ball back to Naomi ) not to win matches so I simply cannot hit consistently as he can. I am sure if I could racquet felt great but only if you can hit the sweet spot lol.

Besides 98, vcore 100 was great too BTW...

Why didn’t you leaded up the ‘21 VC95?
The issue wasn't so much as the stability of the racket but me missing the sweet spot on hard to reach balls due to my opponents pace, adding to that the surface of my clubs indoor courts is the fastest i've played on. I still have the racket and will try and hit with it again tonight and next week.

Interesting. The fast indoor speed would play a factor too, I guess. I would’ve definitely try adding some lead at 3&9 and see how that goes. Maybe 2-4 grams on each side.

Same picked one up on a whim, only 2 hours in, but Blade is by far the winner for me. Ive started modding hopefully it'll go better tomorrow

Any OHBH'ers playing with the vc98? And if so, what are your thoughts on backhand side.

I played with the vc98 today, that was 320sw. I really think these VC Sw is coming on average midn310s hence people lack power and stability. I did not have any of those issues . Remotely....

Forehands were really good.. very whippy racket that hits the crap out of the ball. Very easy spin and pop.. feel is very muted but not a problem for me. You almost do not feel much. It's not muted like blade v7 18m but it's a little different...Anyways.. it's a really aggressive racket where I enjoyed my hit quite a bit . However, it was only an hour hit and I mostly hit forehands as it was more drilling with my coach . I got few backhands.. but couldn't really dial the backhands.. it's way too early to judge anything on it but I am wondering if other folks who are using this racket that hit 1H'er are grooving with it or not....
