We all know that Thiem will probably end his career with 3-6 slams, and could be in the running for top 15 all time, but has he already surpassed delpo? Slam champions with 1 masters title. Does the fact that delpo had his injuries and had the arguably tougher era help him? I'm gonna say that Thiem has surpassed delpo by a tiny margin.

Overall as of now I would say Delpo but Tim is probably going to pass him in big titles & injuries made him fall of over the last couple of years

For the record, I am talking current standing, not at the end of their respective careers.

Delpo's best 5 years (i.e., his only healthy 5 years) are very similar to Thiem's best 5 years (i.e., his most recent 5 years). There's really not much between them. I think I'll give Delpo the slight edge because he was a credible threat to win Wimbledon at his best (while also being excellent everywhere else), and Thiem isn't even remotely a threat there.

Wanna bet on that lol. More likely he stays on 1 that he so incredibly grabbed.

Who's "we"?

Federer fans will here display a double standard.

They constantly bring the "Slam finals are utterly relevant" argument. Now, they will ignore the fact that Thiem has played 2 more Slam finals than Delpo.

That's because Delpo was crippled by injuries more than Thiem being a better player.

Thiem would be fortunate to get to 2 slams, let alone three. He's not a bad player, he's quite good, but you've got to be more than that to win 3-6 slams. I've never seen more than that from Thiem.

Delpo is a great player who underachieved mostly due to injuries. He had the "more than that" but wasn't able to show it often.

Thiem fits in nicely with the other quite good players with one slam, although I'd put several of them (Delpo, for example) ahead of him.

I personally don't think it's even that close, yet. Delpo by a mile. Maybe Thiem will eventually get there, though.

Thiem won his slam without having to face Djokovic or Nadal, the top 2 players in the world. Nadal didn't even play in the tournament. His US Open win is not as impressive as Del Potro's.

Nostalgia blinders as usual in the poll. Dominic owns this comparison and it's not even close.
3 Slam finals vs 1 (outside of their 1 win each). Thiem has reached the final of 3 Slams, Delpo has never outside USO. And Thiem is 27 while Delpo is well past 30.

The Thiem Train is rolling into town, whether you like it or not

Now, del Potro. In the future, Thiem.

Del Potro beat Federer and Nadal to win his slam. The first player to do so, only matched by Djokovic. He is the first player to beat Federer in a Slam final after Nadal. Theim won the most asterisked slam final ever in the worst final of all time. Del Potro has 2 Olympic medals and a Davis Cup winning the crucial points in semis and final. He is a threat to all players on all surfaces, Thiem sucks on grass. Also, nostalgia? We are not talking about someone that retired ten years ago.

only because Thiem had considerably weaker semis than Delpo did - RG 2009 vs fed, Wim 2013 vs Djoko (prime fed and prime djoko)

RG 18 - cecchinatto
RG 19 - djoko (past his prime djoko - just decent, nothing more)
AO 20 - zverev

cancel out RG 17 and RG 18 semi for the both (both Nadal)

Trolling aside, Thiem is an overrated MUG who only got to vulture a slam thanks to the absence of Djokodal.

Thiem.
Del potro had that 1 hot tournament and some great matches here and there but considering how he started his career, a huge underachiever.
