I've got some nice sunday drama for TTW readers. A huge bust up between Moutet and Evans. Moutet calling out Evans on his past drug usage in french, Evans calling Moutet and his pals out in the stands (Paire, Gasquet, Hubert, Goffin, evans wnats to fight moutet in the locker room after? it's a bit uncertain what he meant). this is spicy! Wow, I watched it all. 22 Of the most embarrassing minutes of my weekend. And I squandered 7 match points yesterday.
Always lovely to see world class athletes displaying the passion and appreciation for the game they love so dearly.

What was Evans going on about with the slicing reference? Just that he thought it was a poor shot?? Thinking of running my mouth off at the slicers in my club now, if a pro player does it it must help get a win no?

moutet really sounds like a massive db and evans is quite hot-tempered... that was entertaining :)

PS: being a rapper is way worse than sniffing flour... (sorry dennis)
(it's a serious offense to the whole community of acoustic waves... and that even includes farts)
... but why bring up the powder issue when richie's watching?!

There's few players more unlikable to me than Evans.

The guy walks and talks like he's some 6' 8" bouncer.

Needs a smack.

Neither player comes across particularly well during this running exchange, but I have to admit that Dan "the man" Evans doesn't exactly cover himself in glory.

I haven't heard much of Moutet before this but there's been at least a few incidents over the years with Evans, almost always him either mouthing off to someone or trying to intimidate.

I remember last year during one of the first tennis tournaments after the lockdown, he told Edmund to "watch himself" or something to that effect.

Edmund was stone faced and said nothing but there's no doubt in my mind he'd smack Evans around if he actually got provoked.

It seems like there is some truth behind the whole Napoleonic complex thing.

I’m really glad that I watched the match because there was a lot of good all-court cat-and-mouse slice-dice-drop-and-lob stuff. It had a real club-level grudge-match vibe about it that was great.

It goes on the whole match really and was quite strange. I doubt the YouTube video captures all of it, with plenty happening on the changes of ends too. The more I think about it, the more I think it’s a case of each seeing a lot of themselves in the player on the other side of the net and really not liking what they saw. They’re ranting and raving at themselves, but throwing in the odd piece of commentary about the opponent, pretty much the whole way through. A lot of the time the other player is watching and listening and can’t tell who they’re talking about, assuming it must be them etc.

Moutet drop serves him to go up 4-1 in the deciding set before Evo comes back. Evo probably has 3 or 4 huge sprays at all of them: Moutet, then the French-speaking players watching like Paire, Goffin, Gasquet, PHH etc etc - “see if any of you are still here in a few days ... just like the rest of them, no bollocks”. Evo had one point late in the match where he thought a pass from Moutet was going wide and was just starting to do a huge fistpump in front of the French spectactors before it lands flush on the line. He has to pack up the celebration tout suite and Moutet kinda wraps it up from there and they have a bit of an exchange at the net about respect and Evo is still ranting about the bollocks stuff afterwards.

Evans is far worse than Moutet for me cause he personally attacks everyone. He has threatened phsyical harm on more than one occasion and gets provoked for no reason at all. Moutet usually keeps his theatrics to himself. Evans takes it out on everyone around him as if its a personal affront to be a better player than him.

Evans has a long history of offensive attitude and behaviour issues going way back into his junior days. The UK commentators, so starved of local tennis talent since the decline of Muzzah, laud Evans for being “always up for a good scrap” and how “he gets under the skin of his opponents”.

If Dan Evans wasn’t a Brit, they’d have called him an uncivilised punk long ago. Those who can win will win without the need for getting into scraps and under the skin of their opponent. These are not qualities to be proud of outwith contact sports.

Thats exactly what I saw, Evans was going after Moutet all the time really trying to provoke him. Don´t know why the umpire didn´t stop that..

Evans had beaten Edmund and on the tap of the racquets at the net, Edmund deliberately banged his frame against the frame of Evans, not on the strings like any civilised player does. He deserved the mouthful he got.

What a total embarrassment

not like any of them are a Roy Keane. Should provide them with handbags, no towels
Roy Keane is a loud-mouth *****, never had a real fight. Cantona is the real deal.

But Zvonimir Boban is the legend. He kicked a policeman right on the chest!

why guilty

I'm not comfortable with deriving enjoyment from the angst of others.

I also find it highly comical to hear someone ranting and raving in English, but with a strong French accent.

Also, his behaviour and comments were so obnoxious and tacky, that it transcends the normal petty theatrics which we are accustomed to.

I find it hilarious, no guilt, no questions asked.
