I beat him the last time we played, it was close we split sets and I beat him 10-7 in a 10 point tie break.

Excellent. It sounds like you can hang with MEP.
TW should set up a match.
Maudes please do the needful.

This Sean guy has been out of breath since the first games of the first set . His reactions are quite over the top and feel a bit forced .

fully expect MEP to have beaten Sean)

I watched the first two sets and these two guys are dead even. Sean has the better shots but that is offset by his large number of UFE and his fitness disadvantage .

MEP said he had adjusted to the indoor court after losing the first set, but he is on the verge of losing the second set.

IF it goes to a third set, Sean likely runs out of gas, but Sean might close it out in straight sets.

I mean since MEP is up 5:4 I would hardly say 'he is on the verge of losing the second set.'

I have played Sean 3 times but I would have to look it up but it was 2-3 years ago and Sean has improved since then so he would probably beat me now. I can grind pretty well but not sure if I could hang with MEP. But its not about how I would do it’s about Atlanta tennis.
It just seems questionable of how good this 4.5 Atlanta league is if MEP is winning matches. I’m telling you the 4.5 singles player at my club would blow MEP off the court in under an hour. In this same indoor league Sean plays on the 4.0 team. That should give you an idea on how tough the 4.5 level is.

Is this a USTA league? Wondering why the Ian video is titled "4.5 NTRP play" if Sean is not a USTA 4.5.

oh, so a network airing only a first part (a given week) of a two-parts episode never happens?
You're like my 17 year old kid citing an exception to establish a rule. What percentage of episodes on HBO are presented this way. Use your intelligence, not your emotion.

I’m pretty sure I know Sean and have played him a few times a couple years ago and at that time he was a 4.0, but that depends on what league he played in. The Gladiator league we played in does not match USTA ratings, in that league we were playing 4.5 but it was more like a 4.0 USTA.

Both of you are older and probably not wiser hehehe

I play at Park Forest. I’m pretty sure the 4.5 singles player played at Purdue University.
@tlm - which USTA league your club is in? I can't seem to find any Park Forest team in 4.5 leagues (but admittedly it is not easy to navigate USTA site how I likely missed it)

You are not accounting for psychological pressure. I played table tennis against a 1400 USTTA ranked junior once. Your side of the table is only 5 X 4.5 feet. It seemed like an ocean and my eyes were blurred and my nerves deflated in minutes after seeing smash after smash crashing into the wall behind me.

who says it's a rule? Does it happen - yes. Does it happen often - no. Does ET also releases full matches in one viewing - yes. I fail to see your argument....

edit: you have 17 year old kid that argues? As a fellow parent I sympathize with you..... :)

MEP was serving for the set at 5-3 and got broken. Might have even had set point. The momentum has shifted to Sean and it is back on serve at 4-5.

But this is anybody's set.

Like MEP if it goes to three sets if Sean is anywhere near as "exhausted" as he claims to be.

It's not a matter of if. It went three sets 100%.

This club league is not USTA, one is named Illiana and the other Jack Berry. Like I mentioned Sean plays on the 4.0 team in those leagues.

This is true the pressure can make a player tire much faster.

Does anyone know how long it takes Tennis Troll to produce one of his matches on his channel? The problem with building suspense is if it fails to deliver in relation to the hype then it becomes a flop
I'm sure @TennisTroll knows best, but he mentioned it typically took him at least 5 hours per vid. A big difference is he doesn't really hype releases in advance, so any time a vid drops people tend to be happy to see a new match.

if those players are on some non-USTA league that just happens to call itself 4.5 level - how the fact that they may or may not have beaten MEP would indicate MEP level in the sense of USTA ranking? I mean if that league called itself 3.0, and the folks playing there would be recent Div1 tennis players that would surely beat MEP - would that mean that MEP is not even 3.0 in USTA sense??
Edit: I've checked the players on that league. Obviously I do not know all of them - but I do know a few. They have winning record in that league of yours. They are not beating MEP. Is there a player or few on that league that _would_ beat MEP - sure it is possible. Would every 4.5 player on your league 'blow MEP off the court' - nope.

Eye blur is highly underrated. Specially for people with glasses, balls flying around you can cause dizziness. Eye is also a part of the body and gets tired.

LOL .. 26 page thread .. about what?

I watched about 5 minutes of a link to "ET Ian's" youtube content (unrelated to this epic matchup) .. and that was enough for me.

I guess it's better than watching trashy reality tv. Just :-D
One guy's post here about the airport video made me lol, like what else are they going to film and upload.

Honestly thought of this Rick and Morty clip. Like the next bit we'll be seeing Ian making GSG a sandwich or somethin stupid.

Tell him to come on down to Atl and we can find out then! :)

I'm trying to add a loop on my forehand. My current backswing looks similar to yours -- a pendulum type backswing. Never copied anyone. It is just a habit and it feels comfortable..

Have you ever thought of adding a loop backswing so that you get the gravity assist going forward into the ball? How much of an advantage is the loop forehand in your opinion?

Nerves can easily cause failure to breathe properly. I was that way in my first USTA match: hyperventilating, running into the net after a volley, probably other things I choose to forget...And I wasn't even being recorded for a video that thousands of people would watch.

Sweet Ben thanks for the reply

I was just watching the most recent Troll one there with Wannabe Pro and it was great. It was suggested that you might have a match up against Wannabe Pro planned soon...can't wait I love his commentary!

Not an expert, but honestly does seem a lot more of nerves/anxiety that's causing him to be out of breath than physical exhaustion - it doesn't seem he is moving any slower now than the first game of the match

He beat me twice in USTA about 4 years ago. Kicked my butt the first time and the second time we had a closer match. It will be interesting to see what happens in round 3!

If I could line up a match between our clubs 4.5 singles guy and MEP I would put a thousand dollars on that match. MEP is not even close to the 4.5 guys in my clubs indoor league. Again Sean plays on the 4.0 team in this league and he is looking like he will beat MEP and Sean would get blown off the court in n this 4.5 league that I’m talking about.

Not sure if anyone has asked you but do you prefer playing indoors or outdoors?
Put it this way, the only time I prefer indoors is when it's raining ;)

For the style I play and my experience indoors vs outdoors, there are only disadvantages for me playing inside. 94% of my league matches and 99.99% of my rec matches have been outdoors.

How about outside in the elements where most tennis is played?

That depends on where you live. In the Chicago area a lot of the leagues are in the winter so they are indoors. I’m just giving examples of league players I know.

Again for slow learners In this same indoor league Sean plays 4.0 and would get smoked in the 4.5 league but yet he is beating MEP. So that doesn’t say much for these 4.5 guys MEP beats in Atlanta. Is that so hard to understand?

I agree about outdoor tennis, I much prefer outdoors but this match was indoors and Sean plays a lot indoors so it’s just a comparison of players.

I don't buy any of the "my guy would smoke him" chit chat. Way to many variables to make these statements so emphatically. Maybe they would win, maybe not. No way to tell until match is played.

More importantly, statements like this display a complete lack of humility and respect. How about, "I think my guy would beat him because ..." @GSG record is what it is. For you to denigrate and entire cities league/players doesn't speak highly of you.

So A >> B = C and therefore A >> C? But tennis isn't math. Oftentimes such comparisons fail.

And to be fair to Ben, he plays mostly outdoors and in the more extreme elements [ATL in summer is brutal] and he's playing indoors on a much faster court which is to his style's disadvantage.

Assuming the players you're thinking about span the entire range and not just the very best and assuming that metro ATL is fairly representative of the nation as a whole, there's a contradiction there. No amount of arguing will settle the dispute.

If I had to place confidence, I'd bet on metro ATL since there are so many players while your league is tiny by comparison.

I think some are underestimating the differences between playing on a fast indoor court versus a slower outdoor court in the elements. This is why GSG is in a no win situation. Not only does he have very limited experience playing indoors but he's playing against players who have studied all of his matches. I also think some are underestimating the quality of GSG's opponents on Trolls channel.
