Holger Rune was born in 2003. Djokovic turned tennis pro in 2003. It's a huge age difference.

Djokovic in 3 sets is the mostly likely outcome. He can be dropping 1 set if he is not sharp enough.

My prediction :- 6-4 3-6 6-1 6-2 novak

By the way, are there any Denmarkians here on this boards??

Rune prefers the clay he won his Boy’s slam on but he had a smooth transition to HCs in the qualies after 7 straight months on the dirt. All in all, there’s a much better chance to catch idol Rafa’s USO trophy count than reaching his stated goal of becoming the all-time RG best. He won’t get started on his Flushing goal this year though. Joe Kovic in three, one of them with a crooked number for Rune.

I had several strange dreams about Holger Rune this past week, before I even knew he would be playing Djokovic - I am now wondering if they were premonition dreams??? I have only seen him play twice.

LOL, the same happened to me. I dreamt about this match after the draw was out but BEFORE they placed the qualified players in the draw
. I have only seen Rune twice too. One was the loss against Ruud on a recent clay 250. The other was the San Marino challenger final against Lutz, I only tuned in out of curiosity in the last set.
I saw on Thursday that Rune beat Krueger in the 2nd round of the Q draw, then the main draw said Djokovic would face a Q player. I was wondering who he'd face.
I literally dreamt about this hypothetical match the night between Thursday and Friday. Before Rune even won his 3rd round match. In my dream Djokovic lost the 1st set 6-4 and had a very tough 2nd set 7-5, then it was a comfortable win in 4. On Friday evening I took a look at the draw and surprise, Rune was the second name I saw. Lmao.

I am used to this kind of premonition dreams. But I am usually wrong. I dreamt that Djokovic won the FO 2020 final in 5 sets, he lost in 3. This year I dreamt Nadal won the semi in 3, he lost in 4. But it's almost creepy how real these dreams seem. I regularly dream about entire matches with very specific scores and scenarios. Thanks god my fictional scenarios turn out to be wrong in most cases.

It's funny actually, everyone has mentioned Ruud as a player to transition well to hard courts, but I like Rune's chances on HC much better (although not tomorrow).

The only thing I ask of him tomorrow is that he comes in with a game plan. I hate it when these young guns not only lose, but lose while letting the nerves get to them. Play free, Runney, play free.

I’m not one believing in Ruud’s supposed ability to translate his clay success to HCs. Until he made 4R AO’21 he had never won more than two matches in a row main draw ATP level. I think Ruud could ditch every clay 250 he enters and take on a real HC schedule and not win a single title because there will be someone in every draw that can expose his real defensive posture on the surface.

Rune’s court positioning in the few matches I’ve seen is much more aggressively offensive, especially if you compare 18-year-old Casper to current Holger. Much less camping out in Rafaland meters behind the baseline. He’s going to be more comfortable with the ebb and flow of a full season of match play once his ranking kicks in and he is full fledged ATP status without weekly qualifying.

I agree with you 100%. Ruud is through and through a dirtballer, while Rune is secretly an aggressive baseline who happens to spend a lot of time in the mud, and who could evolve into a true all-courter with the right coach. In fact, although he can't volley and he doesn't know what to do with an approach shot, I've seen him volley on CLAY.

Kenneth Carlsen is his regular hitting partner so he would be the rock to lean on and learn from about playing faster surfaces. All 7 of his ATP finals were HC, carpet or grass. Maybe he’ll expand his learning tree and hire from outside Denmark when and if he outgrows Carlsen and HC Lars Christensen. I would enjoy a Magnus Norman hiring by one of these younguns. Guaranteed multislam partnership!

Recently had a good cinci run where he beat opelka schwartzman etc... he is adapting his game to hard court. I dont think he will ever be more than a QF Masters/ 4 Round slam participant on Hardcourt, but his serve is improving and if he can flatten out his monster forehand with less spin and more speed I think he could easily maintain a Top10-ranking through hard court and indoor season. he is still young.

Certainly he can become a successful hardcourt player. He seems pretty invested in becoming one and he has a good team behind him. But some commentators (e.g., J. Wertheim) and posters were suggesting that his game would transition more or less in it's current form to hardcourts. I don't think that at all. As you already mentioned, he's made some slight changes to his game to succeed on hardcourts, and he was still blown off the court when he reached Zverev. (BTW, I like Schwarty, but I wouldn't exactly call him a litmus test on hard courts)

My only point is that I think Rune, who stands much closer to the baseline than many clay court players, has a game more suited to hard court, although of course he'll have to make a few adjustments also.

sure, but Rublev was blown off the court in similar fashion in the same tournament in the final - and he is not a bad hard court player, he beat medvedev to get to that final.
I get your point but the match against Zverev said more about Zverevs level and less about Ruuds in that tournament...

Novak serve/volley to hold for 3-0. Pretty comfortable start. You watch these opening games and you think, just what can really Rune do out here to even push Novak slightly.

He's not nervous, maybe a little overexcited... But positive nevertheless.
