Don't care. I don't want to hear crap about how the crowd cheers for his errors if he's going to fist pump after his opponent bricks one of the easiest smashes you'll ever see.
This is a good point.

But I still think Novak wasn't necessarily cheering the smash itself. I have seen him do it plenty of times on his opponent's errors before, though, one earlier in this match.

Sexy volley to finish.

As long as his opponents keep forcing him to up his level, it won’t be so bad watching him destroy tennis forever win the calendar slam.

Seriously, he made Brooksby attempt to win that point about three times. He wasn't cheering the miss. That was a great defensive point by Djoker.
He had plenty of those points today where he scrambled to remain in the point and won when Brooksby finally sailed one. That's fine.

But despite scrambling in this point, he was never in it. He didn't win it with defense. Brooksby was in control for 100% of that point and missed the easiest shot possible. That's not Novak forcing the issue. Brooksby should make that shot 10/10 times.

Yeah but the crowd is never cheering his errors either. They’re cheering the opportunity the error opens for his opponent.

Yeah I don't think he was specifically cheering the smash in a condescending way or anything, he was cheering winning the point. Still not a good look. Don't want to hear his fanbase whine about decorum and then think him fistpumping there is epic.

I feel like this is the first time I've really seen Djokovic look old. Obviously he's been in decline for some time but this feels different. Maybe I'm jumping the gun and Djokovic just needs an offseason to refresh himself after a pretty brutal season but in my mind 20-20-20 is a genuine possibility at this point.
May have jumped the gun tbh lol

What a garbage match. This whole tournament has been such a let down. Watching Novak just mop up the slams after his competitors are well past their prime in broken bodies. Looks like robot tennis is all we have left for the foreseeable future.
Then watch something else.

All players deal with injuries. Too many Nadal fans use that as an excuse

Better excuse than I didn’t realize I had to cut out the bagels and I can’t keep my stuff in my pants so I had to fire my team and replace them with a self-help guru. Just sayin’.

The horrendous crowd finally gets the boob thrust!

I guess Joe Kovic realizes he really needs them on his side now that he will finally play top 50 players and it will be three top 10 dudes if chalk holds. Big step up!

Djokovic showed championship caliber strength tonight. Really played poorly for a set and a half and couldn't find his timing at all from the ground, and then started slicing and mixing it up, buying himself some time and then the timing started coming into his game slowly. Weathered the storm of a strong challenge from Brooksby and in those 2nd and 3rd sets, had lots of tough long rallies and then just wore him down. I have to say I thought he played bad early on but he really pulled it together in the 2nd half of the match.

Could only tolerate small snippets of this match.
<sigh>
I just don't like either of these players, but I do respect Djoko's playing ability.

Novak just played the Berretini Open at Wimbledon, how can Novak fans keep memeing Rafa’s USOs with a straight face?
Which active player would’ve actually beaten Novak there?? Both fedal had a go the previous years

Nadal has been a top player winning slams for longer. Djokovic basically started in 2011 and Nadal in 2005. Djokovic is lucky that he doesn't have any real injuries ever, doesn't have any foot problems etc
But the elbow issue that knocked him out of commission for 2 years doesn't count, of course.
