It’s weird. Usually it means nothing but tonight you get the feeling he HAS to win the 2nd set
The olympics showed what can happen if Djoker plays half speed against Zed on a big stage. Still not convinced Zverev is completely over his BO5 allergies though.I will be honest, logically if Djokovic plays like this, Zverev in his current form will beat him easy.
But Djokovic never follows logic rather defies it. So count him out at your own risk.
He's compensated for that by barely playing outside them. No Doha, no Dubai, no Miami. No Queens. No Cincinnati.Nobody mentions that because Joker has made it to the maximum of every slam this year the possibility of him being burnt out mentally and physically is a realistic issue.
We can never write him as history shows us that. That being side his form is not near title winning levelAfter the way he won the French, I’m not writing any death sentences for Novak. He can still win this tournament. He has the game and the physical reserves, it’s all about handling the pressure mentally.
Novak will still most likely win this match but Zverev and Medvedev back to back after 3 hours plus against Berrettini at 34 years old coming off a 3 slam season is brutal. Super impressive if he can get it done.Berrettini is not a musetti or Rune. He is fit like a tank. Novak lost the set at 80 mins. It doesn't even make sense now.
He is stronger physically and he knows he can hang around for a long long time. Berretinni will soon be spent and zapped out of energy.Isn't it a testament to Djokovic's Greatness that he just feels like a invincible monster that you just can't expect to be beaten?
It’s really hot and humid there, I’m in NY right now. If there’s one thing Djokovic hates it’s being hot under the collar. He doesn’t have the power to hit through Zed/Med and they’ll be happy to rally him to death as they have better serves. Dogfights are not a good sign. After the way he won the French, I’m not writing any death sentences for Novak. He can still win this tournament. I don't think he is even winning this match. Berrettini is very up a level from other players he beat in USopen. People ridicule Berrettini but he has big game.Novak will still most likely win this match but Zverev and Medvedev back to back after 3 hours against Berrettini at 34 years old coming off a 3 slam season is brutal. True it’s 50-50 if he comes through here but he’s harmed himself for the semis even if he does survive here.I expect him to regroup but he just wasted 77 minutes on court. That was a winnable set.
''That shot is industrial-sized.''
He hasn't played 5 sets. He will totally be fine. Expect him to take command early in the 2nd set.Djoker is a fitness freak but not even he has it in him to tough these 3 rounds out. Not at 34 and and suffering obvious burn out. He's gonna have to break the record in Australia
Ok, Edberg lost 7 sets in the 92 USO. 4R-SF were all 5 setters and he beat PETE in 4.Serious question
Does anyone know what the record is for most sets dropped in a major they won?
Roger AO 17 gotta be up thereSerious question

Why that pessimistic with Novak? He isn't playing too well, but surely he won't go down on fitness, even if he always plays 5 sets until Sunday. Playing Best of 5 every second day isn't too exhausting to continue. Playing a Masters with 3 sets every day would be harder. Especially Djokovic has shown this time and time again. That may be all she wrote. Djoker needed to get this done in straight sets to have a shot. Not be in a dogfight and his level just isn't there

Who sent you, Matteo? You gotta help me.Matteo won't be able to Turk this for 2 sets, will he?
Why did Berry start the second set?
Fair enough. I’m just jaded. I stopped believing in anything after a wheelchair-bound Novak schooled a Medvedev in the form of his life in Australia. It’s really hot and humid there, I’m in NY right now. If there’s one thing Djokovic hates it’s being hot under the collar. He doesn’t have the power to hit through Zed/Med and they’ll be happy to rally him to death as they have better serves. he’s obviously not done but as someone who tries to find edges betting, the edge is betting on one of them to pull the upset.
Because he didn't.
Serious question

Edberg dropped 7, as did Fed at AO 17, while Kuerten dropped 8 at RG 97. Not sure for moreI don’t know off the top of my head the # of sets lost, but I’m pretty sure it’s Edberg in the 92 USO.
Don't worry. I am here on the side of the next gen ...I'm here to meme on Djokovic's behalf
The whole tournament hasThis has really been a struggle for novak.
One-way street as soon as Djokovic breaks.
Serious question

He played the Olympics and he hit a wall physically. So he's played enough to be physically spent. He's compensated for that by barely playing outside them. No Doha, no Dubai, no Miami. No Queens. No Cincinnati.
The mental crunch is harder to measure, I'll give you that. If he loses this tourny I think it's more likely from mental burnout than physical.

To have any chance in this match berretini needs to hold in his first 3 service games AND break Djokovic.
The only way his chances of winning will be greater than 10% will be if he breaks Novak here early for a cushion.
Even if he wins the second set, his chances will only go up to 30%
Fed dropped at least 7 at AO17Edberg dropped 7-8 sets in his 1992 USO title run. Similar for Goran in 2001 Wimbledon.
That’s right, damnEdberg dropped 7, as did Fed at AO 17, while Kuerten dropped 8 at RG 97. Not sure for more
If Matteo wins 3 sets tonight I'd put his chances to advance at around 50 percent knowing Next Gen.
Dude that is outrageous high.If Matteo wins 3 sets tonight I'd put his chances to advance at around 50 percent knowing Next Gen.
