Medvedev : I don't care if Federer and Nadal are not there, I am here to win the tournament

And media should stop asking players if they feel more hungry because fed and Rafa are not playing. It’s not 2019 anymore and they wouldn’t make much of a difference to HC slams. Maybe Rafa can but certainly not fed

Still I feel players keep getting asked about big 3 present or absent. If I won a match I wouldn’t wanna talk about someone’s absence but how I’ve played and what I wanna do in the next match. I mean since 2019 medvedev has been the second best HC player and certainly doesn’t need fedal’s absence to make an impact

Well if Djokovic had to deal with Nadal and Federer right now instead of Zverev and Medvedev, he would have been already throwing a celebration party. Lol

Let me guess...

Zverev and Medvedev have taken the game to a wholly new level, amazing tennis that we have never seen before, simply sublime athleticism and no technical flaws whatsoever... Now it remains to be seen if Novak can top them... If so, it would be sensational!

I mean he is not wrong, really. Right now, they are a bit tougher opponents in slams, no matter what we think of next gen.

A lot of talk from whatever gen they are called. Will be the same old same old.

I respectfully disagree. Competition was a lot tougher for instance 2008-2016. Since 2016, Big3 have played far below their best level, yet they have won all the slams apart from US20, where two didn't compete and Novak got upset by Karen.

If Zverev and Medvedev were as great as Djokovic' fans hype them to be, they would have won slams by now. They are 24 and 25...

We are talking about Rafa×Roger and Med×Zve right now, not competiton and who would be tougher to be for Novak right now. For instance Rafa hasn't taken a set from Novak for 8 years on HC.

FAA's coach is talking about the present time Federer and Nadal being around, not some hypothetical mythical version of them. So yes Djokovic would be having a party right now if that would have been the case. ;)

Ah, I was talking about the level on the tour - and Django's constant hyping of something that appears to be a change of paradigm almost in tennis as we know it :D

I don't believe for a second that Medvedev or Zverev would have achieved anything at all had they been from the generation of Nadal/ Djokovic/ Murray/ Wawrinka. Someone has to win when Novak fades away eventually, but they are just the best players in a vacuum that has lasted for 2+ generations in our sport.

The fact that Rafa hasn't beaten Novak since 2013 and Roger since 2014 on HC is a little crazy.

Is he not having a party?

Medvedev has cool attitude generally and he is stepping in the role of #2 player in the world nicely. He is one of the best players on the tour now and his confidence is what we should see from top players. It really shouldn't be as refreshing as it is lol.

Hopefully, this time more experience helps Daniil to match his words with a real result.

Far from it. Did you see Zverev's level in this tournament. Serving 135mph bombs while making 80%+ of first serves. How is that even possible. Also returning and covering the court like crazy. Arguably the best backhand in the game right now, rally wise completely on par if not better than Djokovic at the moment . The guy is a ultimate challenge in tennis I feel. Djokovic has to be at his absolute best level for him to have a chance on Friday.

The Ultimate Challenge has never beaten a Top 10 player in a slam

Isner certainly didn't want to;)

I believe Medvedev is going to defeat Zverev in the final, but I would not be surprised if Zverev were to defeat Medvedev - my prediction though is Medvedev will win.

This is exactly why I believe Zverev is going to win the semi on Friday. He is ready. He is playing his best tennis of his career. I just hope he doesn't have those short mental lapses where he loses a game or two because he isn't concentrating at 100%.

He had a loss and the press wants to talk about Novak, it’s not fair
I thought it was gross that Pam Shriver asked Maria Sakkari about Djokovic after Sakkari's win last night. Give it a rest! Maria won't be playing Djokovic!

What if Novak faced Felix Mugisamme in the final ?
or Zverev! Anything is possible in tennis! I think it would be beyond hilarious if Felix were to win this USO! I actually like him the most of the 4 semi-finalists, as a person, but am not going to be rooting for him in his semi.

Yeah I too won't mind seeing Felix win USO but that might not happen, not yet for 2 years

Rafa and Fed have been irrelevant at HC slams for a while now. Why would anyone care they are not there?
Rafa: wins 2019 USO (sits out 2020, 2021)
makes final in 2020 AO Correction: Final in 2019; lost in QFs last 2 years

Not quite irrelevant for a while by my definition.
No, I am not siding with anyone who is demeaning what Novak has already achieved, and further trying to achieve.
I just loathe bad arguments.

And what has Fed done?
