Crying Zverev says : "Djokovic is the GOAT"

@Hitman - Have you seen Nadal or Novak cry after losing to greats in close matches early in their career? or even Fed, never saw him cry after losing to Agassi or all those fellows...

These guys are weak, I am telling you bro, he is giving stats at the press conference to justify why Novak is GOAT instead of saying today was not his day but next time he will do better.

This happens when a player does not believe that he can do better next time, it is a psychological thing I tell you, he probably doubting himself on what he can do different next time as well...

Look at his eyes, he had been crying before the interview, but in the interview itself he looks more composed.

Even in the interview he could be made to cry, we can get under his skin by provoking him if we are in the press :D
But we would be banned after that anyway, but he can be provoked :D

Zverev was absolute monster in this match. Probably the best non Djokovic HC performance in the last 4-5 years. Absolutely fantastic level of tennis by the young German yesterday night.

It was a heck of a match. It certainly ranks right up there.

Fed cried at the AO against Nadal. Nadal consoled him.
Murray cried and cried after losing Wimbledon against Fed.

Some cry and some don't. I don't think that defines them. He's probably very dejected but he should feel better after a week or so.

Once Boris Becker & Lendl were saying that the coaches in the modern era are not fit to coach players to win slams because they themselves never were in that position, I mean they did not directly say this but Boris did hint it and Lendl then said that if he were a player in the modern era then he would hire one of Becker/Wilander/Mcenroe without a doubt because the mental aspect of the game only a coach who has been there in that stage can guide you.

Do you agree with this ?

beginning of the career I said

Fed cried at the AO was at age 28, Novak cried at olympics, all that is irrelevant from the perspective of how a player was before they won their first grand slam.

I don't fully agree with this. Yes, there is some weight to what is being said, and they can certainly share intimate thoughts about how they prepared for slams, but sometimes it is about the player coach relationship....take for instance Wawrinka and Magnus Norman. Magnus only has one RU trophy to his name, but look at how the chemistry between him Stan made Stan a mental rock and win three slams.

Yeah, Tony Nadal too, some great coaches who never won slams/anything significant but their students won loads of slams

The quality of Djokovic's strokes is still a bit higher but Zverev's level is almost up there with Oldovic. It would be enough but Djokovic is just too tough, he never loses control completely, when he's in trouble he raises his level and grinds out with pressure until the opponent succumbs.

Can't believe I am saying this but I feel sorry for Zverev tbh.He is committed to tennis, at his best he can be a beast and he wants to win badly, to prove himself, but he can't break through Djokovic's aura and confidence.Whatever he throws at Novak, the Serb keeps on coming after him :D

His second serve is still superior to Zve.
His ROS is still superior to Alex

Plus he transitions naturally to net now and Zve doesn't like that.

Three areas where Zve needs to improve.

They are overwhelmed by the aura of Djokovic....and Zverev played his heart out in that match. I was very impressed how he hanged with Novak for such long extended periods of it.

Going to be 25 years old. He better first try to beat a top 10 player before reaching for Djokovic

He was unlucky because Djokovic was the first top player he met :D
he should know he cannot win matches against Djokovic by hanging in there.

you got to take it to him. He was either passive or choked or made stupid mistakes in almost all the big points . He should have closed set 3 instead of crying

Djokovic well and truly deserved it

these mugs are not beating Djoker for a long time

He doesn't perform as well as Novak in big matches. Just look at his first serve which was between 68% and 75% before their SF last night. Against Novak his first serve percentage went down to 62% which means he couldn't even serve at his average tourney range let alone elevating the level/percentage.
Now look at Novak stats :
His first serve percentage was between 62% and 64% while against Sasha he raised it up to 66%. That's what you need to do in a big match which current generation lack to some extent.

Fed cried when he lost a Basel final to Henman early on. Don't think it's an indication of anything really, Zverev certainly played Novak very tough recently.

Zverev not won even 1 match in 10 attempts vs top 10 in slams
Felix not won even 1 of the 9 finals he played till now

All this is an indictor of some imbalance in their mental strengths

That could be due to number of things, it's not about the big stage (slam SF) but it's a different pressure facing the best returner in the game. You might juice the 1st serve a bit more, try to hit the spots etc. it will affect your percentage.

Zverev is becoming a staple in the later stages in slams and has won 5 masters and a YEC. I wouldn't group him with Felix.

Either way, my point was about playing Novak specifically. Zverev's clearly not subdued or lacking motivation when playing him, considering he's doing better against him than the rest of the tour.

And another point re: crying. Nadal cried after losing 2007 Wimbledon final to Fed, people focus too much on off-court stuff and press conferences and such. They're just white noise.

He didn't hang with Novak, he outplayed him for long periods and that's why it's much more disappointing.

Kudos to Zverev for not breaking down right after the double break game. This was such a clear this-ship-is-sinking moment, he's done really well to pull himself together after it.

Zverev had one chance to turn this rivalry around. Now he will forever be known as Djokovic's b!ch in slams even if he starts beating him after Djokovic breaks all records and doesn't care anymore.

I'm surprised he didn't call Djokovic the greatest at hitting lines on so many important points too.
Zev hit at least 4 to 5 shots barely out while Djokovic had 8-10 line shots.
Your chances are low against the speed of a moving wall.
So is Med better than Zev? Yes. But not against Djokovic.
I have to concede that Djokovic did truly earn his title as the GOAT before and after this US Open. This was not an easy draw.

However, he hasn't won slam finals (except AO) convincingly or flashy. It's boring so he's unlikeable. Like Brady & the N.E. Patriots
He barely squeaked by Fed during their last Wimbledon, 13-12. Barely beat Titsipas by 1 break in the 5th at FO.
Rafa can still claim he is the clay GOAT. Fed can only claim he is among the greats. Djokovic can say better H2H in finals and he's still going strong.

You're being too hard on Zverev. That man emptied the tank last night and gave it everything he had. Of course, he had been crying before the interview and is disappointed but not fair to just call him weak because he hung with the best player in the game and outplayed him for parts of the match.

Ouch. I am not sure he really wants it on record that he would rather not play Djokovic than anyone else when it comes to the mental game. Even if that is true it’s probably better to work on privately challenging that belief with a therapist rather than letting that very opponent know lol.

Please. He played fantastic, at a higher level than I’ve seen Fedal play at in recent years (except Rafa at times obv). He can’t beat Djokovic for the same reason no one can beat Djokovic

Well that's it, he can't make the best decisions on big points. He should have learned from Federer, who 17 years ago sent packing the old legend in the USO QF.Some will say but.....but Djokovic is greater than Agassi.Still, how much this counts on the day ? You are as good as your last match.

This is supposed to be the 24 year old best player from the younger gen at the peak of his physical strength. You think it's enough to be a staple in later stages of a slam and losing to 34 year old aging star? The sad part is that Djokovic wasn't even playing his A game most of the match

Good to know that AO 09 was early in Fed's career when Fed had 0 slams
Thanks
A loss is a loss. Try giving your best at a big stage and coming up short. It probably hurt him like it would hurt anyone some keep it tough some cry what’s the big deal. And how does it matter at what stage of career they cry??? Roger cried at AO, Novak cried at Olympics. Even if he cried, he didn’t do anything hysterical he was quite composed and was giving clear answers.

No, Roger cried because his massive ego was BURST !

It hurt him that he was seeded 2 for the time since 2004 at the AO 2009 and his time at the top was ending, so his ego was hurt that his 5 years reign was over.

"It doesn't change a whole lot, I just don't like the ring of it when I'm being introduced on Centre Court saying, 'and this is the number two in the world,'" he said in November. "It just sounds wrong. Either I'm number one or I'm a Grand Slam champion, but I'm not number two."

Massive ego of Roger Federer of the 00s which @Spencer Gore @StannisTheMannis @terribleIVAN @Yugram and @Thriller type guys hate Federer for

And that’s a better reason to cry because??
The bottom line is in all cases players tried to win a match but they didn’t and the loss hurt them and they cried.
