I don't think that was a gang sign - think it's just part of the 'hip-hop culture'.

And Wimbledon is WAY too PC to say anything - you may have noticed they caved in and are paying the women the same for less play (and quality)...

It was a sign to all the marketing executives... "I'm da Man!!".

Unfortunately, they will all remember that rather than his win.

I'm pretty sure Donald Young has no affilition to a gang...I don't know that the crips or the bloods take people that are part of USTA/ATP.

It is just a part of hip-hop culture. It means nothing and is nothing to be concerned about.

Whatever it is, doesn't matter. The fact that we even question it is the issue. IMO, it just does not project a positive image.

I noticed it too, thought it was a religious thing of some sort, though it wasn't a cross.

The fact that we have this thread says volumes by itself. I am afraid Serena is becoming boring as a target, and fresh meat is needed.

Now someone will come and say it is all just a coincidence.

Whatever, he just won the Wimbledon Junior Title. Congratulations to Donald Young. Nice way to finish his last junior tournament.

technically it's a gang sign, it's the same one snoop dogg is doing in this picture:

SnoopDogg,_Caulf_6543681_600_400.jpg

snoop dogg is supposedly affiliated with (or formerly affiliated with) the rollin' 20's crips in los angeles.

chances are young just did it to be "cool" and isn't a gang member or anything like that.

For all we know, his "hand gesture" could have been an insult, a gang sign, or even a thumbs up. This thread is pointless without pictures.

Is this a serious question or is that answer already set in your mind because if it is, If I were you I would refrain from responding to this post
You're right - I'm not even questioning it.
Hip-Hop and gang-culture are inextricably integrated.
Nothing more, nothing less.

If you dispute that, then your head is in the sand.

1 - The SugarHill Gang were pretty good, weren't they?

2 - America. :D

3 - Americans. :D

4 - 'Rapper's Delight' ?

5 - Nothing. They both the same (ah-ha...thought you'd get me with a trick question, eh? ;) )

6 - It's a culture focussed on black gangs, gold chains, being homophobic, unable to articulate using the Queen's English, banging b!tches, more gangs, guns, more homophobia and more ho's.
Oh yeah, and stealing old black guys music from the 60s and 70s.

So - I pass.

Exactly the answer I was expecting

2 and 3 - america, vague. New york. "The main historical eras of hip hop are the old school hip hop era (1970 to 1985), which spanned from the beginning of hip hop until its emergence into the mainstream, and the golden age hip hop era (1985 to 1993), which consolidated the sounds of the East Coast and the West Coast and transitioned into the modern era with the rise of gangsta rap and G-funk, created by the West Coast. The years after 1993 contain the hardcore hip hop, bling, and underground genres, which largely define the modern era. Hip hop began in The Bronx, a borough in New York City, when DJs began isolating the percussion break from funk and disco songs."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hip_hop_music#History

Elements of Hip- hop

Beatboxing, break dancing, Dance, Graffiti, language, street fashion = equal hip hop as a culture

Rap= equals one element of popular music in hip-hop culture for right now

Two hip hop rappers who don't rap about "black gangs, gold chains, being homophobic, unable to articulate using the Queen's English, banging b!tches, more gangs, guns, more homophobia and more ho's.
Oh yeah, and stealing old black guys music from the 60s and 70s." that I fancy are Common and Nas

maybe you should limewire some of their music

So if you want me to go deeper and breakdown the hip-hop culture more relevantly for you let me know

oh and the English do a pretty good job of being unarticulated themselves with their queens English.

It's called slang, every nation, culture and country has it even the queens .

That's well and fine but to assume that all elements of a culture are bad because you don't fancy one element of it is well like saying Italian culture has gone to s*** because Italian culture also includes the mafia. ;)

Hey man I read that link! good stuff , I think we should devote an entire section to who we'd like to give the shocker to.
I'll go first , Ivanovic

Not true. Wait, let me guess, you're an open minded white guy who has legitimate grievances with the vulgarity of black culture? There's a difference between hip-hop and rap and gangster rap.

Probably derived from gang life, but I seriously doubt Donald Young is endorsing or in any way is affiliated with a real gang. Just another example of how trends start one place (in this example, gangs) and end up appearing in a watered down form someplace else, just ask the white kids doing the crip walk dance at a graduation party.

he's the geekiest looking African American to even be considered related to a gang.

im not saying he's a bad player, but he obviously isn't someone you would stereotype as a thug or what not.
