US Open 2021 the most memorable slam ever?

I mean, after last year and the oddness of the pandemic Slams, this one has really been a ride from day 1. Yesterday's women's final was the first one I've sat through in YEARS. And the buzz was refreshing.

I'm not really into today's men's final, but I gotta say I watched a LOT of tennis these two weeks, and that's not always the case during Slams anymore.

I have had no interest in the womens game since Henin played who I was a huge fan of. These days there seems to be so many random winners of slams with nobody dominating which suggests the level isnt great and I have no idea who most of the players are or who the best ranked players are.

Raducanu and also Fernandez may have just sparked my interest again in the womens game and I would hope that this could be the start of a great rivalry between them.

I'm with you. Since the Henin/Clijsters days, I have ignored the women's game more and more. The level of the No. 1s and Slam winners in the past decade has been sub-par. The tours used to be anchored by extra special talent at the top. That has been lacking on the WTA side. A lot of one-Slam wonders and also rans. This is the first thing I've seen in a while to really catch my interest. I hope we're not wrong.

I thought both the men and women's singles were amazing!!!! So many great stories!!! For me the best part of this tournament was the emergence of Carlos Alcaraz (hope he heals quickly from his injuries and returns to the tour as soon as he is ready), the emergence of Emma Raducanu, and a brand new Grand Slam champion in Daniil Medvedev. This is a transitional Grand Slam away from the big 3 era and starting an era where more players can win and their dominance will diminish (lessen).

Several great matches but both finals were duds so......I mean that's a huge part.

2009, 2012 & 1998 Wimbledon were all pretty great on both sides. 2005 & 2017 AO.

The most memorable USO ever and one of the most memorable. There's still competition like Wimbledon 01,08 or 1980 all the way back. But for the same USO to have a qualifier champion and a CYGS bid thwarted in the finals is off the charts.

2021 U.S. Open played out like a Hollywood movie script! LOL! Drama, suspense, action, melodrama at times! The U.S. commentators did not overly hype any of the players in this year’s Open. They were pretty even for the most part. I guess their favor U.S. players either did not play or knockout in the early rounds. I did not have to go foreign for neutral commentary on matches I watched. :)(y)

Best US Open ever? Ever?

This year was fun. Lots of close matches. However, I guess I'm old, but I can remember some pretty great Opens in the 80s and 90s, and even the past 20 years. Like '88, when Graf completed the CYGS at age 19 on the women's side with a 3 set victory over Sabatini and Mats Wilander became the first Swede to win the US Open to grab his third Slam of the year and the #1 ranking with an epic 5 set match over Lendl in the final. That's my favorite one. But there were some ones involving McEnroe, Connors, Agassi, Edberg, Federer, Nadal, and others that were awesome as well.

Before this slam, the last time I was this invested in tennis was 2008 to 2010. Leylah's play style and matches really caught my eye. First time Ive been more interested in the Women's side of the draw than the men's too. Hoping she stays healthy and continue improving. Lets goooo

Whilst it was a lot of fun to follow all the stories in this slam. A part of me thinks, we need the recency bias to fade before we can conclusively say it's the best. Both finals were pretty dull. The women's final had the story but low quality. The men's final was even worse, one guy didn't show up at all.

Slams are often remembered by the finale and we had a huge build up for the final weekend but were majorly let down. Great 10/11 days and then 2 very boring finals.
