Anyone missing Wawrinka, Stan the Man?

If he could play at the level he did 5 years ago, I would miss him. Just like I would miss Thiem if he played at the level he did 1-2 years ago. Nothing more fun than watching them outhitting everyone else from the baseline. Sadly, I don’t think it it is realistic anymore for Wawrinka.

I miss his tattoos about failing to fail again, or whatever, and pointing to his cranium after making a smart play. His 1hbh was pretty good too. Miss Delpo more though.

He should be back in a couple weeks (IW). I'm sure he'll get destroyed by the vast majority of the NextGen now, but I guess we'll see.

It's not failing to fail. It's "fail better." His quote is inspiring, yours is nonsense.

I think you can miss seeing a peak player without unrealistically thinking that player could be peak again.

I miss him probably more than anyone who's out right now. Great power game, well rounded all court game. Obviously his 1HBH is his trademark shot, but his forehand is quite a weapon as well.

if you watch closely you can see the exact moment when Rafael Nadal wins the '13 US Open in this video.

Not at all. He played some good watchable tennis in a handful of matches but he wasn't too entertaining to watch outside of that.

The 2019 USO matchup against Djokovic wasn't that long ago. Wawrinka can still bring it. I hope he comes back strong (y)

I did specify that its outside of his top matches, i'm not deluded enough to deny he was outstanding in those few memorable matches but he was a nobody before his few title runs and even during and after he slipped back into average territory in terms of watchable tennis. For me a watchable player is someone you enjoy watching all year round and he wasn't that player for me.

Honestly I feel like he is retired now...kinda like Fed it would be amazing to see him come back and be a factor but not holding my breath.

Wawrinka 2013-2017:
3 slams + 1 final, 5 SF, 4 QF.

Wawrinka had to get to those titles - which included beating Big3 five times en route, two of those titles were in finals against world #1. Since RG2017 physical breakdown, he has not been interesting to watch, and I agree if that's your point.

But from a shotmaking/ playing style/ player type perspective, I am having trouble finding anyone more entertaining than Wawrinka. But of course, that's also a matter of personal taste. I enjoyed watching Wawrinka in every tournament he entered, although his level varied a lot :)
