Nick Kyrgios "I Dont Know How Much Longer I Will Play Tennis so..."

I think next year is it for him tbh, and why not? He's rich and the things that make him happy are off court.
Curious to see how much longer he'll be rich without tennis.

Really doubt there's huge marketability for a retired Nick Kyrgios. And if he retires because he's sick of playing tennis then I doubt he's going to go into commentating, coaching or teaching. I hope he can find something he's actually passionate about. Maybe he'll fully dedicate himself to his foundation?

I think there's a fairly big market. During the tennis swing in our summer he's on every second ad on TV.

And thats the problem with the world. Someone like Kyrgios is rich for essentially screwing off for a profession. Goofballs like Kyrgios should be given 300 bucks a week until he feels like putting in effort
What is your problem? Did he not earn his spot on tour and win matches? What do you care that he's not interested in playing tennis anymore?

He has more God given talent on his little pinky than 99.5% of the world, and he pissed it all away. He has no respect for the game, his opponents, anything. If you don’t see someone not realizing God’s gift for something better for the world, there’s nothing to say…

Well, he is probably more focused in being happy than entertain people giving his life for tennis, its like if i had an enourmous talent to be the best porn actor, and i didnt wanna be, should i sacrifice the happines of the only life ive got so people could do their thing with my videos? Its not like he would find the cure for cancer or something, this is just hitting a ball, no point in playing if you dont enjoy it, he cant even enjoy it getting good money, so there you go

He is ranked 95 and hasn’t won a match for about 3 months. He may need a wildcard to play the aus open, and then if he doesn’t have a decent Aus swing he will drop even further

Who knows, but i think by now he must have figured out if he is going to get that happiness from tennis, and anyway, some people are happy with very little, whereas other people can never be totally happy, i dont know, i only see him on the tennis court and in the pressers, so i wouldnt know, for us fans its not good, so i hope at least is good for him

He will be 27 next year, hard to see him changing his ways and having a big turnaround at that age. If he was going to do that, it had to happen early on in his career, at age 21/22. (not aiming this post at you, just saying generally)

Most of these young guys seem content with winning a few minor tournaments here and there, making several million, and not aiming any higher than that. Previous generations seemed to want to achieve much more than that.

God's gift? :-D It's hitting a ball with a racquet, get over it.

Yeah i think they see how much hard work it would take and they think, well i dont need that, i play tennis for a living and i have enough money to do whatever when im not playing, so not bad, their ego is fulfilled enough without having to be numer one in the world

There are always 'celebrity' reality shows. They seem to rate so well here in Australia unfortunately...

Even guys like Tsitsipas and Zverev seem like they just want to win 1 slam. To be able to say "I am a slam champion". Much like Thiem was content winning only 1 slam. They don't seem to care about winning multiple slams, let alone trying to reach the total of Djokovic, Federer and Nadal.

Could say the same thing about guys from any era that didn't win Slams or reach top 5.

The mistake that athletes in his position make is that they think that the investments they have made will keep going up and the cost of living they are having now will not. There are so many athletes that have gone bankrupt due to bad decisions they have made.

If I was rich I'd probably still want a tiny house :D

Usually a journeyman-level player finds a way to hang around and have a lengthy though ultimately futile career. Maybe I was too generous in calling NK a journeyman…. Regardless, this journey seems to be limping to an end.

I certainly wouldn't go to work every day if I was loaded... He made his 10 to 20 million. maybe more from all the endorsements and now wants to live his life instead of living in hotel rooms getting nasal swabbed every time he enters the facility.

I think we all look at pro tennis from our comfy sofas and judge their effort. Can you really say that you'd be willing to grind 6 hours a day in the heat... limp around on worn out joints and constantly nurse injuries to go from pretty rich to slightly richer?

I'd be happy to do it whether I was making money at it or not. That said, I think it's clear Nick was never that person. I think the only time I've ever seen him motivated was when he played the top guys. Aside from that, I think he did well in the wrong sport. He probably would have been happier as a pro in a team sport.

Well maybe so, but truth is they gotta start with one xD, no point in thinking to win more if they struggle with the first, and lets face it, unless you start to win them very early in your career, you know youre not gonna win 20, so comparisons for them are not ideal

I would also enjoy it at this point in my life, but maybe the situation would be different had i done it since i was 4 years old, i choosed tennis, but maybe for him it was the other way around, i did whatever i wanted in my teenage years and in my 20s, so now it would be awesome to stay fit, focus only on improving my game and such, but we have to understand that to get to the top level you spend half of your life trainning and sacrificing the joy of the youth, so i dont know how i would feel in that case
