I can’t find a racquet or setup that I like that also suits my arm

Use a weighed up pro staff 95 x1 mains ALU rough cross @52/50 Find that there’s not enough spin. And racquets too heavy on the serve. Decrease weight. Still not enough spin. Try blade 98 16x19 with Black widow @45. Cannon. Love the feel and grab though. Try Savage @50. Still too powerful. And when I hit first serves, my tendinosis returns. Try VCore Pro HD black widow @50. Just doesn’t feel right at all. What’s next I have no idea. Maybe the new vcore pros in the 16x19??

Sounds like you need a racket between 58-62 RA stiffness and 16x19. I used to use the Donnay Pro One 95 remade versions and it's buttery smooth. Cheap on **** and then pair it with a poly hybrid to get additional spin and control.

You might need something softer and less demanding. Maybe go up headsize to 97-98.

The new Vcore Pro is super soft on the arm. It is like a way better 16x19 Blade. the balance is more HL which may help your arm.

I'd also suggest demoing that with the Vcore 95. The Vc95 is incredibly nice racquet that is super fast through the air but has the real estate of a 98 frame.

The 2018 vcore 95 and 98 are both great on the arms. I think the 21 models are slightly stiffer. I used to have wrist issues with the Wilson burn 95/Wilson ultra 95 and that issue has completely gone away with the vcore 95. I was stringing my hybrids around 57/59 lbs with poly in the mains so I'd definitely say give either of those a try

Sore arm, poly strings. Must be the racket.
I want to use poly strings. They fit my game better and feel better. That’s why I’m trying any combination of racquet to perhaps use with poly strings. The 52/50 setup on the pro staff 95 also gives me arm issues. Just no where near as bad as the poly ones.

Both extremely gravitating. I have heard that the vcore 95 is a little stiffer then it’s predecessor so put me off initially. Also looking at the gravity pro.

Echo the ProKennex recs.

Dunlop CX Tour 16x19 also sounds like a good option. Low powered, but stringbed is pretty open and it's very manouverable with 95 head size, thin beam and low weight.

Volkl C10 Pro is also really great, but maybe too heavy.

The Vcore Pro's are good frames with a medium stiffness, and if spin is really your priority, then go for the 98. If you have arm pain, at the very least consider a hybrid set-up instead of full poly. With a round poly that's not too harsh in the mains (e.g. 4G Soft), and a good synthetic gut or multifilament in the crosses (Triax would be a good option).

BW is one the most comfy and powerful poly shaped strings out there. Maybe try it at 50 and cross with a solid core syn gut , that's my set up for some sticks and it increase the comfort level but yet make it less powerful than a multi for example

If you want to protect the elbow/arm whilst playing polys, learn to play with / adapt to low tensions.

I use soft, round polys, but I enjoy a lively stringbed with great ball pocketing. If that’s not your thing, using a firmer poly like Tecnifibre Red Code at 40 lbs or less could do the trick.

Most pros nowadays string in the low 40s.
Medvedev f.inst. says he strings at 20.5-21 kg, and the string job lasts a week(!) on hc training (2 days on clay). He also likes to play with the same racket during a match, even a 5-setter.

Your arm issues are being caused by the poly strings. What gauge are you using? Changing rackets won’t solve this, you need to change your strings. You will notice a big difference if you drop down to 1.2/1.15 or even 1.10 mm. That will be very good for your arm. If your arm still hurts with thin gauge then drop the tension. If you can’t play with the lower tension then you need to get out of poly and use multifilament, synthetic gut or a “soft” poly. Natural gut is best if you have the money.

Phantom frames can help a lot for arm pain. Even more with O3 ports.
Perfect setup for real chronic elbow/shoulder/wrist problems is old Phantom 100 with soft string.

The Prince Phantom 100X 305 plays great. I think you could probably string it with steel cable and it still wouldn’t hurt your arm.
I’m looking into that actually. Only thing I’m a little hesitant about is that beam width with that weight. Stability is gonna be an issue.

Dunlop I’m using atm. Love it honestly. Seems to be ideal for me. Pain still comes. But it’s to a lesser extent. Before after playing I’d have to take a week out. But now I’m good to play after 2 days, or can play everyday taking a paracetamol. And doesn’t hurt off court. Only while playing. So it’s an improvement but yeah. Still not perfect. Interesting you say it’s pretty open. I’ve found it to be quite actually. Seems open looking at it but playing it’s quite tight and launch angle is low. I was hitting so many shots into the net initially and so had to adjust.

I tried poly and synth gut once and honestly I hated it so much that never again. Poly multi ive tried with multi in the mains but it lacks the spin and grab I like from the full bed poly. Using 46lbs and there’s an improvement in pain for sure. Am able to play every other day. But it’s still not pain free.

Might have to. Shame that. Tryna find maybe some kind of racquet that may allow me to play the tension I want. Low polys I’ve found to be so inconsistent and just a cannon on the blade 98.

Hmmm interesting. Using 16gauge atm. Here’s a question though. What would be the better combo to increase arm friendliness but maintain as much control as I can? To decrease tension on the 16 gauge? Or to use the 17 gauge?

In my own personal experience I went to the Phantom 100P to cure my arm problems (I'm pretty sure from bad technique with the second Gen Pure Strike) and started getting shoulder problems from having to over swing due to lack of power from the 100P. Then was happy with the ProStaff 97 (not RF) with soft poly's at 48-50lbs. I bought a Wilson Ultra 16x19 from the Pro Labs to just tinker with and have made the switch to those. Since they are a platform racquet you can weight them up to your liking, string them up in the mid 40's with soft polys and get just about whatever it is you want out of a racquet. I found it to have great spin potential... almost too much. It started stringing the crosses in a full poly setup a pound or two higher to bring the launch angle down.

ProKennex is probably still the best for pure arm comfort, but the Dunlop is one of my favourite frames I've tried. Super versatile.

I agree that the racquet doesn't play with much launch, but the string pattern in isolation is pretty open imo. It's interesting actually because I mostly don't gel with racquets that only have 3 mains, but I loved this one.

Stability is good from the different reviews. You will not have much more plow but stability seems to be nice.

poly should really be strung at lowest possible tension while still maintaining control. It will also last longer because the tension drop will not be as severe. Utilizing skillful technique to keep the ball in (think brush) is paramount to using poly at low tension…the ball pocketing sensation is second to none.

I would try just try 18 gauge first. If that is still hurting then also decrease tension. If it is completely fine then you can move up to 17 gauge and see if that hurts or not.

I would recommend a shortened length racquet. Will automatically be much better on the arm.

actually, since you use 16g, I would bump it up to 17g first and try stringing few lbs lower with a comfortable copoly. Shaped poly tends to be a bit stiffer so round polys might be more arm friendly. Firestorm is quite soft yet still gets good spin and ball pocketing.

First thing is to use a thinner gauge if you want to keep the same poly string as previous poster said.
I did that on my very low powered prestige mp and it was a very good mix.
Regarding racquets, I’ve found Angell make the most user friendly and comfortable frame while retaining a crisp feel.
If you want to stay with the big brands, pro kennex has a very nice range that’s been extensively discussed here. I also love Ultra tour / pro feel but it’s 18x20. Maybe try the 16x19 pro labs. Vcore 95 is also a very nice racquet too, comfortable and manœuvrable

I used to have wrist pain with Prince Txtreme 100p (305g) with various strings, poly, multifilament. And then I moved on to Angell custom 100, 63RA, 310g, 6 HL with poly-multi hybrid; the feeling was OK. But I found it a bit more difficult to swing fast. Now I am using Gravity tour with Triax, 16 @ 52lb. Just love the feeling of flex of the racket, pocketing of the ball, good amount of spin, decent control, easy to return serve. I've felt that suddenly my tennis has just gone up a level and absolutely no pain over my wrist. Went back to try Prince with Triax, the wrist pain came back. So for me, Gravity Tour with Triax is my current go-to. I'm not sure if it's the downside that Triax frays quite significantly after 15-20h which is long enough?

I think multi mains with poly cross is worth trying. It's not the type of racquet where the power or launch angle needs to be reigned in, so it could work for both playability and comfort.

My experience with poly strung too low is that it’s an inconsistent cannon. Sometimes it sails. Sometimes it doesn’t grab at all and goes in the net. Sometimes it’s perfect. Just doesn’t work for my strokes I don’t think.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking. Like with the blade 98, I found that the launch angle with multi in the mains was awful and the feel was hollow. But with this I’m thinking even with poly it’s already quite low so surely with multi mains it can’t be too much lower if at all? And maybe with the whippy feel I won’t lose too much spin?

If you didn't like the Ultra Tour, then I wouldn't waste your money on the 16x19 Ultra Pro - it doesn't play to dissimilar, just a slightly higher launch angle IMO
