Who will hold the records?

When the Big 3 finally shuffle off this tennis mortal coil, who do you think will be the holders of the key tennis records?

My predictions:

Most Slams: Djokovic
Most "Grand Slams": Laver
Most consecutive slam titles: Budge
Most YE #1 (pre-OE): Gonzales
Most YE #1(OE): Djokovic
Most weeks at #1(pre ATP '73): Tilden
Most weeks at #1(ATP '73) : Djokovic
Most Singles Titles: Laver
Most Singles Titles (OE) : Connors
Most Masters 1000: Djokovic
Most titles at a single slam: Nadal
Highest Win %: Wilding
Highest Win % (OE) : Djokovic
Highest Win % ( slams): Borg
Most YE Finals (WCT & ATP): McEnroe
Most Pro Slams: Rosewall

I agree with all.I make a brave bet-Djokovic and Nadal will finish equal on Masters. That s because although there are 6-3 hard to clay Nadal is far more dominant on clay plus i think he will take it more seriously. You could even make a point it s 5-4 due to Canada open slow surface

You have most YE finals, yet you don't have who actually won the most YE titles? I wonder why. Well, not really, we know why. ;)

I do refer to who won the most titles. The Season Ending Finals refers to the Masters (now known as the ATP Finals) and the WCT Finals -which competed with The Masters and for many years was the more important event.

Anyone with an understanding of tennis before the recent Big 3 era would understand that.

McEnroe holds most titles in this category with 8 wins.

So he's conflating two different tournaments and is being dishonest rather than just omitting an important field lol.
Being true to the history of tennis. There were two Australian Open Championships one year. Both count towards slam totals.

Have some respect for tennis history. It didn't start with the Big 3.

One thing is for certain, Federer will always hold the record for most time spent in OP’s head lol.

Also TMF and Sunny will be arriving shortly to tell you this: Federer has the most records held with 334.

Actually it should be 335 because he also has the record for most records held. Or maybe 336 because he has the record for having the record of having the most records held. And so on.

Records have no bias. Other players hold other more minor records but these are the big ones. If fans of certain players want their favourites to be in the record books they need to start cheering on their player to win more tennis matches!

As usual, facts trump opinions for true tennis fans/historians.

I can’t believe I just got hit with a Ben Shapiro style “facts don’t care about your feelings” lol

I think what's most pleasing when you look over the tennis records, it covers pretty much the greatest players in the history of our sport and covers the history of the game.

Only Sampras and Federer miss out. But those legends made their mark in other ways.

He was number one longer than anyone arguably. This was pre-OE though so no official rankings.
Did you try to do your own estimates?

I have this from that Phoenix guy. Not sure how accurate this is. It's apparently done by a knowledgeable poster on another forum.

Bill Tilden, 7 YE #1 368 weeks
Pancho Gonzales, 7 YE #1, 356 weeks
Rod Laver, 6 YE #1, 353 weeks

Tennisbase have done a rolling ranking, I know others have on other forums. I think last time I checked I had 8 YE #1's for Pancho but I've never thought about the weeks. Don't even know how you could do something like that when there wasn't a standardised tour.

I would just compare YE #1's pre vs OE. Leave weeks for comparing players using the same ranking system. Even a lot of those early OE week totals are a but inaccurate I think.

I've listened to the criticism and suggestions of those who think some of the important records (and players) are missing, so I've added some significant records, including pre-Open Era #1 player (YE and Weeks) and amateur slam and pro slam record holders.

Hope that keeps everyone happy!

These are only open era, ATP sanctioned records. Laver won at least documented 210 titles, Connors has won more than 109, Lendl is in the same range of around 140 titles. Tilden has more than 600 weeks at Nr. 1, Laver 452 weeks according to Tennis Base. Laver, Tilden and Gonzalez have records pretty similar or even better than big 3, Rosewall, along with Tilden and Gonzalez, is unsurpassed for longevity.

All of those are reflected in the OP

Where is the endorsement ranking ?

where is the continuous weeks at No 1 ?

where is the consecutive finals record ?

Where are the 100+ titles club members ?
The list includes the most significant records, only.

If you wish to do a list of more minor/specialist records I'd be delighted to read it.

The players with most titles are included in the list: Laver and Connors.

The records refer to achievements on the tennis court, not in the business world.

How come you include hypothetical toppers but not include actual people who are in the 100+ club ?

Endorsements are largely a derivative of how many eyes you bring in to watch.

You forgot THE measure of dominance. Without this measure, such rating lists are statistically useless; the only thing they reveal is Bias.

Most consecutive weeks at No 1: Federer (237).

No. That's a third tier measure to total weeks at #1 and Year End #1. I haven't included those 2nd and 3rd tier records -in any event Tilden and Gonzales would be way ahead on that measure.

But if you want to create a thread with a list of those records I'd love to read it.

Third tier? Seriously? you must be delusional. Funniest thing I've heard today. Ahh, the things people convince themselves to exclude the players they don't like.

Anyway I don't have the time to create such useless lists. IF I do, I will make sure to include players I don't necessarily like, if their accomplishments merit it.

Yes, third tier behind Most Year End #1s and Most weeks at #1. Or do you think consecutive weeks at #1 is higher than those?

so bill gates is tennis goat? or should we just look at tennis prize money?

If Bill Gates has 20 slams and can enter the GOAT Conversation by his tennis performance alone then sure, his brand value will matter

How many slams do Bill Gates or Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk have ??

Most consecutive weeks at No 1: Federer (237).
So consecutive slams would be the measure of slam dominance?

Agree with most of your list but i think Nadal.wins slam race. He is much more likely to win FO than other two win any other slams and i cannot see amy of them being threat after next year.

OP should be commended for trying so hard to ignore Federer , yet in his mind it is Federer that is all in there
Players have to make the list on merit. If your favourite isn't there it's because they don't hold any of the records and are unlikely to when the careers of the Big 3 come to an end. I have absolutely no control over that.

Interesting thread. So, Federer does not feature in your list anywhere. It's like he never existed. All his records obliterated?

As to your prediction about most slams, it will be 20-20-20.
