Race would not be over. It would only begin.
If Nadal wins AO22, that means Djokovic will stay ranked No1 for even more weeks.
Nadal will have DCGS without actually beating Djokovic in AO.
Djokovic can then have a goal to win RG22 for TCGS and WIM22 for "22 in 22".
I want Nadal to win this AO, then I want Fed to win this years USO to cement his HC GOAThood. He already is, but another USO would distance himself from the pretender who took advantage of his old age.

Djokovic has won 12 hardcourt Majors, one more than Federer, although it is a small difference, for me that has been enough to surpass the Swiss on that surface as the best.
And at 41, I doubt Federer can even win more than two matches at Flushing Meadows.
I’d take that anytime. He deserves another FO. Federer is the only player of this generation that I believe has more talent than Nadal and should not be below novaxx in majors count.

It's one thing for Nadal to win this tournament after he supported the unlawful deportation of the best player on the planet who's won the last three editions of the event. It's another thing entirely for him to win this tournament playing at a standard which would constitute the lowest slam winning level in the past 20 years at a minimum on top of the above. After seeing his level today, I simply wouldn't be able to stomach seeing him vulture this one.
Well if that's your definition of being the best hard court player it could be, but for me the Australian Open is just as important as the US Open, so, the total number of titles of both tournaments should be the definitive metric to define who of all is the best player in history on that surface.
