Any other Fed fans feeling a bit relieved?

I'm feeling like the sorest loser among all the gracious posters here. Where are all the bitter people at? :notworthy:

Can’t feel bitter towards Rafa anymore. He’s been amazing for the sport and he’s battled his way to this. Like others, I’d resigned ages ago that Fed would be overtaken by Djokovic. For Nadal to break that ground first just seems easier to take somehow.

And you switch sides after every month like a hypocrite. I know you must be pissed off right as you were few weeks ago when your guy djoker got deported
I've never switched sides. Once Agassi departed the scene Nadal has always been my favourite. I've always just acknowledged Djokovic as the slightly better of the two. It's called being a tennis fan, not a closed minded fanatic.

Close minded fanatic :-D :-D :-D :-D . The phrase suits well to a guy who writes millions of threads to bash fed. I am afraid he still lives in your head rent free.

Nice too see so many people accepting this. For me the sport is now officially dead. I was not watching tennis anymore on a regular basis as I used to but still. It does give a quiet feeling now that its officially over I admit. That said if it was going to happen, I would have wanted djokovic to have it and not this cheater. It feels very much undeserved. But the nail in the coffin is that all those next gens are such mugs (most of them with ugly play) that there is not even light on the horizon. So, goodbye it is.

Like, i don't feel bitter toward Rafa. At least that's what I think consciously and want to be true. It's kind of general bitterness because of how this 21st happened,l with that poor level of play ending up being a huge comeback, while Federer lost the freaking Wimbledon final and lost some other crucial matches playing better and holding MPs. It's tough to swallow and I don't know why it keeps bothering me so much when a lot of most dedicated Federer fans and Federer himself have moved on.

I get it. And you’re absolutely right about Wimbledon 2019 being the golden missed opportunity for 21. I would love to know what Federer might have been able to do (even at his age) at this event without Novak and fully fit. Honestly think he would have had a chance, Novak being out of the draw makes a hell of a difference and Nadal really shouldn’t have been able to win this, so who knows?

But I think specifically about the slam race I’m pleased Fed isn’t being chased anymore, especially when he can’t even be on court to do anything about it himself. That’s been a bit frustrating.

As long as Fed is part of the conversation (and he always will be), I, as a Fedfan, will be okay and have moved on. I feel good about the fact that he is not chased anymore. That's probably my best relief from what happened last night.

Federer has had an unreal career and by most of accounts should have ended up with the most GS titles. No need to discuss why it didn’t happen but it did. In terms of determining GOAT, the number of GS trophies will always be at the top of the list, but that will not be the entirety of the list. I think since he himself is at peace with all of this, we all should be too. I’m more of a Djoker/Rafa fan than I am Fed, but I love all three of them for the uncountable hours of joy and awe that they have given me these past two decades.

Fed is essentially retired and he gave us 20 years of enjoyment. I don't care who ends up as GOAT and am actually happy for Rafa. Not everyone is obsessed about the GOAT debate.
Unless the doctors tell him something like, “If you play again, you might not be able to walk & play with your kids in your 50s,” I believe Fed will give it another go. I will not lose faith.

As it was between Nadal and Djokovic, the choice was very clear for me.
After AO22, not rooting for Djokovic anymore.

Fed fans should be happy. If Djoker finishes Slam King, in 20 years, 40-15 will be the first Fed highlight you see. If Nadal finishes Slam King, in 20 years, Wimbledon 2008 will be the first Fed highlight you see, and at least that was a great match that ended honorably.

I too am feeling the same.
It is unfair to Fed that he had lost tough matches so many times or else he would be on 21 now or more,
SO Rafa winning 21 cannot leave a good taste in any Fed fan's mouths no matter how much they try to sound calm.

Also the Fedal alliance/bromance might be over ;)

I knew/expected Fed's slam record to get passed for years now, in 2017 I posted here that I expect Nadal to end up ahead. Still believe that at his peak Fed is the best player I've seen but in terms of achievements he was gonna get passed sooner or later.

You're still stuck in the "hate" stage, aren't you? :D

Lol, always. Still more focused on Fed than his boy.

Fed can still be the GOAT. Slams won is never a be all metric.
Fed's style of play and versatility will stand the test of time.

GOAT? No, he doesn't have an argument anymore. He's not in the race for the greatest ever.

Best level, ability, peak level of play etc. ? That's a different matter and is in good part subjective.

Of course Fed will always be remembered, he was a very special player even if half of TTW would have us think otherwise.

Great thread. Definitely relieved, and it’s fitting that it’s the greatest FH in the business. One of those last FH DTLs was just outrageous.

I think federer accepted he's not the goat but he is something no body else will ever be: the wealthiest tennis player ever. I think that's a mighty big win for him.

That's exactly the feeling I have. Weirdly relieved and happy to not worry about this again. I say this with no bitterness or any hard feelings at all. And thankfully it's a worthy champion and a great rival who's taken the lead. Can you imagine the feeling had it been a Medvedev or Zverev taking the lead after 5-6 years? Lol, thank God that won't ever happen. Besides, I'm sure Fed is super happy for Rafa. He wouldn't have wanted it any other way. Happy for Rafa, happy and relieved for Federer.
Nah, I really don't think he is, nor should he be.

What Fedal alliance? I never liked Nadal fans (save a handful of them).
Same with me too, never liked Nadal fans (save a handful).

There seemed to be a unity here & even in the real world among Fed and Ned fans while discuss Nole, it had more to do with Nole kicking Fedal for more than a decade.
However I never liked Nadal or his fans even in the days when I was a big Fedfan, I always knew who the biggest rival of Fed was, a constant threat, the guy who ruined Federer's resume.

Let’s do it with dignity folks. Throwing up a zillion serious goalpoast moving threads ain’t gonna help, so let’s at least slow it down and/or contain it to what’s already out there.

Tennis is about many things but it’s life and life is unfair. Sometimes the guy who leads gets cut down by lesser people, or replaced by his own creations. Nadal is one hell of a player, who as a tearaway prodigy cut down Fed in his prime with easily the most effective FH in tennis history, so it’s not that unfair.

Tennis is also combat and combat is ultimately reduced to stats. The big 3 have collected a lot of them, and crushed a lot of souls doing it, but we can’t change the stats now.

There were already enough dramas with the Fam not being able to handle the truth at this tournament, so let’s not have two simultaneous fan base meltdowns.

I feel a bit relieved to be honest. Nobody now realistically needs to talk about Federer in terms of Slam count. He isn’t coming back meaningfully, I’m happy to step back and watch Djokovic/Nadal and their fans duke it out! It’s not been fun watching Fed be a sitting duck for the last couple of years, I’m feeling good that it’s moving on without him to be honest!

Anyone else?

Every congratulations to Rafa by the way, shocked that he’s still fit enough to win 5 hour finals and did not see him going beyond Fed. Djokovic has been fairly inevitable since Wimbledon 19 but I thought Nadal was slowing up. Not fast enough it seems and there’s a bit more on the FO22 now - if Rafa can open a 2 slam gap he might just be able to hold off Novak for at least a tie in the slam count.
Count me in

Count Mr. Roger Federer in. He obviously wants the slam titles record with Rafa. If there is a contest let it be between them
