Federer giving hints of extending his career with an even lighter tour?

3 GS + one first American swing Masters + One WB warmup + One second American swing masters + Basel + one indoor masters(he ain't getting to WTF)

So all in all 8 tournaments and if he does well ranking in top 10-25 range. Not that bad and who knows he might have a slam in him. You never ever know with the big 3.
I love the optimism :) The was some people talk about Federer's comeback, you'd think Roger was planning to return on life support.

Realistically speaking he should play at least 15 events if he wants to be competitive in the majors. His run at 2019 Wimbledon was due in part to his fantastic clay season run. The gap between Miami and the Halle is too large to hold form.

I think he schedule for the next two seasons 2023-2024 would be close to the following

AO
Dubai
IW
Halle
Wimbledon
Cincy
USO
Laver Cup
Basel

So 9-10 tournaments a year. Not too bad.
will play sunshine double meaning Miami as well bud that’s pretty much what it will look like.. may play Geneva and FO as prep for Wimby keep up the fitness.. I think next year will be his last

I used to panic every time Fed hit a BH.

Now I'm gonna panic at all times.
I don't mean this sarcastically: Try to tamp down expectations, and enjoy the victories he achieves.
If Roger is reasonably healthy, he may still spring some surprises, up to and including a run for a 21st.
He's earned the right to play/retire on his terms, and I hope there's still just a little magic left.

To be fairly honest to him both in RG and in WB he played quite a few sets that were as good as his 2019 level. The problem was him not being able to sustain it.

Now if that was because of age, it would have gotten worse now. If that was because of little match practice and lack of fitness that would also be mean he will be in a worse state now.

However I really think there's a chance of few good runs.

Top 10 with almost 42 years?
No way, not even Ken Rosewall could pull it off and that was when a lot of tournaments were played on grass.
Even top 20 sounds quite complicated but, he would have to accumulate approximately 2000 or a little more points, to finish in that position.
The reality is that after almost three years without competing, he no longer has the physicality not only for the Grand Slam events but also for the Masters 1000, which despite the fact that they play the best of three sets, they have the best players participating and although he could win a couple of matches against a seed, when he faces the third, he would run out of gas to continue beating rounds.
Top 50 minimum and top 25 maximum would be what he can aspire to at this point in his legendary career.

If he said make balls heavier then he could dominate easily vs limp wrist tweener gens

Give him endless Wild Cards, all events to use heavier balls and many kids will just turn to VR than swing 350+ gram sticks
Even Nadal could adapt to a few more grams but few will be able to control the ball with less than 340gsm

Tennis points decided faster with risk reward ratios increased will keep many players healthy with less RSI

At this moment it's shocking he considers playing more than 2 tournaments per season.

Federer is as done as it gets. Won't even make a slam QF, let alone win it. The man is 41 and has way too many surgeries

I’m torn between admiring his optimism to thinking this is the ultimate attention craving stunt, he doesn’t even know if his knees would even sustain him through a single tournament, much less a year schedule.

Roger tends to err on the over-optimistic side. This is good for him; no need to fret over anything after all he's achieved.

But for fans trying to translate his words into what we may be actually be able to witness and expectations surrounding that, I think being pessimistic and being pleasantly surprised is probably better.

Can't believe I'm saying this, but I can't wait for him to come back. His presence is missing for sure. As Joni says, you don't know what you got til it's gone.

Rafa v Fed? Nothing quite like that rivalry in sport to me. I'd love a few more matches between the two. As long as Rafa wins of course!

Also, look at the difficulty Djokovic has had getting his peak form back. He's somewhat younger, has not been away from the tour that long, and had no major injury issues, much less surgery, to rehab from.

I think Roger wants a farewell tour. And why not? He's been one of the greatest, and fans love him.
Rogers comeback will also add great interest, for awhile anyway. Just as Murray's comeback has been interesting.

swingweight and twistweight is more important than static weight

People were saying Federer was done at the top level in 2016 after the first knee surgery. Now, I am not saying the circumstances are similar, they are not, but Federer should never be considered absolutely hopeless when he's making an effort to come back.

No that’s right. People forget one thing about Federer - he doesn’t need to bust a gut like everyone else to win. He can mix it up and shorten the points like no other. The questions is, how much has he got left in the tank? Who knows. But either way, Federer now is a luxury. Let’s enjoy him before he is lost in the cabinet of history

At this point I'm taking all I can get.

I was mad about 40-15 (still am), but at this point I just want to see the guy play.
Same. I want to see Fed play for as long as his body allows it.
The big 3 are the main reason I follow this sport. That might make me a fake fan of tennis, but whatever.

One big issue if he wants to make a comeback is he has no ranking.
So it's tough to get going when you are not protected as a seeded player;he will get his fair share of bad draws and having to beat top 10 players starting from R1.
