First, I am not saying it is even financially possible for this to happen. I am legitimately asking for those who understand the finances of the ATP.

I wonder if this is possible for several reasons:

  • Tour level is abysmal and some slam matches aren't even watchable anymore
This juice box Era with the ngbs is something else. I'll give you fed had a few weak years, but we are going into year 5 with no end in sight. It just is not good tennis.

  • Many fans are big 3 followers only. Whether fed, rafa, or djoker.
Many fans came to tennis because of these guys and the show was worth every penny. With them fading out how many will still continue to follow the tour in the same way. These fans had a big contribution to the finances of the tour.

  • Some true tennis fans will leave after the big 3
Yes I get it. Many say true tennis fans will still love the game and follow. But many won't. They have seen the greatest tennis that will ever be played. They know it's only downhill from here and no future on the horizon. These people are the life line of the tour. Some will stay, but they won't be as invested knowing the new generation couldn't even beat old greats.

  • Longest generation to ever play
With the big 3 basically owning the tour and the fans since 2003, that is basically 20 years since we haven't had them. Many new tennis fans became fans of tennis during this time. The aura of the big match, the slam race, and the big names. Even the old tennis fans will have a hard time with the loss of the vibe and importance of every match. It will be like starting completely new.

  • New generation of fan and player
We know the younger generations, fans and players alike have less attention span and work ethic. Do they want to play 5 sets? No. Do they even want to play full sets? The ATP will have to make many rule changes to keep them interested.

Will the Tour survive even if they change it to Bo3?

Some changes bring in fans. I don't see any of these changes making a difference.

A few filthy rich souls will soon invest in the venture of tennis and everything will be rosy for a while. There are always people who need to wash their money somehow.

If the tour looks like it won’t survive, they’ll rejig the whole thing as a last roll of the dice. Expect best of three with final set as a super tiebreaker at all events, even slams, Wimbledon played on hard courts, more team events and round robin, and maybe even boxing style matches for world title every three months. Age restrictions. We’ll have rival tours. It’ll shapeshift before it goes under and someone like Pique probably has blueprints and funds and is ready to go.

I really don't care if it does to be honest. We have had 2-3 gens now unable to take over. Do you deserve to stay afloat if you can't produce any dominant stars or even kick geriatrics out of their seat? The sport ending with the Big 3's retirement sounds ok. Go out on top. Its better than just to fade away. Whoever comes along and finally takes over it will be the same comments "Well they aren't as good as the Big 3, they couldnt; kick the Big 3 out".

I would have been fine with the NBA ending in Game 6 of the 1998 NBA finals. That was the pinnacle of perfection.

Not about that. Of course I miss fed playing. I miss Murray and Stan. I'm fine with fed being third, but you aren't seeing the big picture.

Your boy djoker will be gone in a few years. What then?

Djokovic has been bad for tennis and will continue to be bad for tennis. Nobody likes him and he's a terribly boring player to watch.

Without senior Big3 we would be watching Kyrgios-Norrie Wimbledon final, surely the low point in slam history ever. I really cant see how people can ignore it or argue it anymore.

One, I know plenty of tennis fans who can't wait for the big 3 to retire including me. Two, if "some true tennis fans leave after the big 3 retire", they are not true/real tennis fans at all.

I have watched tennis since the late nineties. Haven't missed a single slam. I loved tennis. I used to watch every masters too. Even non big 3 ones.

But I don't watch formula 2 or KHL hockey. I watch the Formula 1 and the NHL.

Tennis doesn't have great players anymore after djoker and Rafa.
