butt cap sizes?

Are all the butt cap sizes at the end of the racket the same size regardless of grip size?
I used to played with 4 3/8" but switched to 4 1/2" grip size.
After the switched, I noticed that my palm is getting a lot of friction from the butt cap.
I don't believed I changed my grip style or how low I grip the racket handle.
It is always been at the very bottom.

If there is a size difference, the local pro shop should be able to change it for me from 4 1/2 to 4 3/8?

In general, butt caps typically come in different sizes to accommodate the different handle sizes. As such, a 4 3/8 butt cap may or may not fit a 4 1/2 handle. It just depends on how much slop the manufacturer allows between the components.

It's possibile to sobstitute but you have to sand a little the grip in order to accomodate a smaller buttcap. The best thing would be to take a 4 3/8 grip an increase only the andle with some tape under the grip and not the buttcap

Have your local pro shop take a look at it. Typically, a 3/8 butt cap will not fit on a 1/2 handle.

A bit messy, but you could sand down your 1/2 butt cap. Take care to keep the bevels well defined, though.

Or, your local shop may be able to substitute a 1/2 butt cap from a different frame that is less flared than the one on your racquet.

I am using the Wilson Ncode Surge.
I used to played with a (head radical 260 )4 3/8 and added overgrip to the orginal grip. That was fine for over 10 years.
I then switched over to the Surge, 4 1/2. It appears that by adding on an overgrip to the orginal grip on the Surge, it was too big. I love my Prince Duratred Overgrips so I took off the orginal grip on the Surge and placed 2 overgrips on the handle. Appeared to be fine until later stages of the match. The longer it goes, the more friction I get on my palm from the butt of the racket rubbing on it.

^^^ Yes, I can see that you would have problems with the 2 overgrips. When you added an overgrip to the original grip, did you minimize the overlap as you wrapped it, in order to minimize the increase in size? (Sorry if this was a dumb question.)

On the Surge: The original grip was taken out and replaced with 2 overgrips.

On the original Head: yes, I minimized and stretched it as much as I can.

Hmm... I'm thinking maybe put a thin replacement grip on your Surge and then a Duratred over that. That would increase cushiness and decrease friction in you palm...

My 1st baby is schedule to due in less than 3 weeks. if going according to plan, I have this weekend to play and a few weekdays befor that. (after that, I am home with the wife, staying by her side, just in case we need to go to the hospital) I am hoping not too early. At least give me till this weekend. I may not be able to play with the different grips given the time allowed.

And who knows when I will have time to play....again.

Hey, good luck with your new baby! Hope everything goes really well.

I'm estimating you'll get to play again in...18 years? Just kidding. You'll have a lot to do and think about with your first child, and with taking care of your wife. But hopefully, during your breaks from being on duty, you'll get to hit some balls. Or just fiddle with your racquet grip, etc. Or just visit this message board (I find it interesting and informative and relaxing to come here from time to time).
