What is being done at the ITA to promote the sport before pickle ball takes over?

Time is running out on the ITA getting their act together. Pickleball is taking over and on TV more than college tennis. It's time to wake up before it is too late. What is the ITA doing about this?

What is the USTA doing? They are much larger and much more responsible at all levels of American tennis.

Pickle ball is not going to take over college tennis.

Your vendetta against the ITA is ignorant and pathetic. You're a troll.
What is ignorant and pathetic is your reply. The ITA and USTA need to do their job. And is your job to stick up for a lackluster performance? So go troll some one else.

I think I see more pickleball than college tennis on TC this year. Translation, pickleball gets more eyeballs than college tennis.

College tennis is all over the place. I don’t really want to watch pickle ball or much college tennis. I enjoy high quality match up but the quality of college tennis depends on the day. So I get why, and they don’t have to worry about getting contracts with schools already under contract. There is already sec, big ten, and acc network.

It is a leadership issue. Soon it will be too late for the game.

100% and it isn't good for college tennis. The ITA should get things going soon before it is too late.

Pickleball will overtake tennis very soon. For example, Lewinsville public park in Virginia has recently rebuilt the tennis courts and pickleball courts. There were no pickleball courts prior to this. The county tore up everything and rebuilt from scratch (flushed with cash from tax revenue). Originally, there were six tennis courts so the county decided to take away one tennis court and replaced it with 4 pickleball courts. Now there are five brand new tennis courts and four brand new pickleball courts.

On any given day, from dawn to dust, you will see all four pickleball courts being occupied by PP players while the tennis courts are pretty much idle. Just a peek into the future of PP (growing) and tennis (slowly dying)

Same out by where I live. The PB courts are always occupied with folks even waiting to get on

Does the USTA do anything to promote learning tennis in younger kids in school? age 5-10? 11-15? I recall most PE classes having some baseball, basketball, soccer, etc, but no tennis.

I don’t think the ITA or USTA will see pickleball as a relevant competitor until it’s too late. Considering how poorly the ITA cup was ran this year as well, my faith in the ITA doing anything is waining.

Noah Rubin, one year Wake player and former #125 ATP, has switched to pickleball https://www.espn.com/tennis/story/_...don-champ-noah-rubin-leaves-tennis-pickleball. His tennis game had been in the decline-lost to Hunter Heck of Illinois in 1st rd of 25K this summer and lost to Diallo of Kentucky in 2nd rd of another Future. Last ATP match was an 0,2 loss in the qualifying round of City Open (got in with WC).
Good move. An outstanding junior who couldn’t cut it on the Tour. But still respect his two Kalamazoo titles and junior Wimby win

Scary for college tennis at a lower level. I could see a kid who could go d2 or d3. Who loves to compete but doesn’t want the commitment of college tennis or wants to go to a bigger better school. Choose to go play pickle ball on the side and have a solid chance to make a little cash from it.

I think pickle ball could steal some decent players 17 and up. But it will never take over junior tennis.

Resurrecting this thread. Hoping tennis and pickleball can co-exist. Even serious tennis players play PB for fun. Called my son former D1 player still UTR 12. 9 to ask him what he had been up to this week. He had played PB with 3 other former D1 players in early to mid 20s and was going to Dick's this weekend to buy 2 paddles. Couple of the PB players are also teaching pros for tennis at a local club. He and his GF are going to play PB with another former line 1 D1 player this weekend and his GF on Sunday. Cheap double date...way to include the important people in their lives in an easier racquet sport with a faster learning curve than tennis. Son is still invested in tennis-will squeeze 5 hours teaching lessons at a local club next semester between his fulltime job and evening MBA classes. These D1 PB players are also played AA-1 ALTA on different teams this fall.

I think I will go out and buy 2 more paddles and a net so son and GF can play my daughter and her husband-neither who ever played tennis when all are at our house at Christmas. Our neighborhood has 8 tennis courts, but no painted PB lines but hosts PB league on Monday nights so they set up nets once a week. Saw that UTR will have PB ratings. Where we live, the PB league players are still mostly 50+ while younger players may play both
