u shouldnt take into account so much that match as a benchmark, it should be obviousThe most boring final imaginable, even Nadal beat Ruud and he's not elite indoors by any means

Djokovic 6-2, 6-3. He could play his B game and still destroy Ruud. It's not going to be a close Final IMO.
Ruud has everything to beat Djokovic.
Big serve, great fitness, great shot tolerance and ability to keep UEs low. His FH has been excellent all week and he’s even found glimpses of a BHDTL. He’s playing his heart out this week. Djoker’s legs are old and heavy, Ruud is as juiced up as he’ll ever be for a match like this.
I still don’t feel confident though…
The people who thought he wouldn’t win a match here were ignoring his two wins to make the SFs last year. The conditions suit his game and that positive experience from 2021 gave him confidence to straight set red hot FAA in his opening match. Here's to a Ruud victory. It'd go a long way towards cementing his position near the top of the game and give the guy all sorts of confidence. I don't see it happening, but how many people on this board thought Ruud wouldn't win a single match here. He gave Rublev the same kind of beatdown that Djoker did, too. I guess we'll have to see. Old guys need to start losing...

Rome 2020: Djokovic winSo, these guys ONLY play in Italy?
He didn't have to face the world #1 or #2, so kind of easy. Can‘t believe that Djokovic will win after 7 years.
Ruud allowed it to happen. He put in zero effort against Nadal since he was already in the SF.Can Djokovic serve 16 aces in 2 sets vs. Ruud? That's what Nadal did for the victory.
I agree with everything you said. I feel like Djokovic needs to bring his absolute best to get the W here, so should he bring his level from the group stage he wins but his level against Fritz won't cut it. Casper is motivated and as fresh as a daisy. May the better man win.Ruud has everything to beat Djokovic.

Err? There is a 4.7 million dollar bonus for not losing, compared to 1.5 mill win fee if you do lose One match? Unless there is something Im missing it would cost him 3.2 million dollars to tank against nadalIf Ruud wins today, his loss to Nadal would have cost him over $700,000 USD or over 7% of his lifetime prize money lol
You actually think Ruud was legit trying in that mach?

I’m one of them this week I admit. I really hope he makes a mug of me again like you say! Go Novak! There's been some shameful hand-wringing from some of my fellow Djokovic fans over the past couple of days. Novak to make mugs of them again in 2.
Final win $2,200,400 Undefeated champion $4,740,300
Rafa dead last on serve and return, no wonder he lost first 2 matchesThat's crazy. Even in his worst form Nadal is right there lol
No, you basically get paid per match in this tournament. The final alone is worth $2.2M.So if Ruud wins, the Rafa match cost him over $2.5 million!?
I don't think so. It's rather the contrary: You realize that you will likely be back in a great final, and that will make you less nervous. Apart from that second place is also a success. But sometimes people act like losing earlier is somehow better for a weird reason.Isn't Ruud getting tired of losing in finals? Hes starting to rival Murray and Nishikori here. YEa you get the runner up money but your confidence and self esteem is SHOT

The Nadal match was worth 383k whether Ruud wins the final or not
