Football season starts this week (Aug. 30).

Let's keep it simple: Make you prediction about who will win the Super Bowl, and who will be National Champions. If you'd like, you can explain your choice, or just list who you think will be on top.

NFL: Steelers-Roethlisberger will have bounce-back year (I hope), new coach Mike Tomlin should revitalize the defense, and Willie Parker should have another great year...

NCAA: USC-Too much depth, too much firepower, too many ways to beat you...

Liverpool will win the league... Liverpool would've already beaten Chelski this season if it weren't for bad officiating.

Lol that right?

1. They don't have the strength in depth.
2. They don't have the manager that can win the league.
3. They don't have enough goals in them, Torres isn't going to get it done.
4. Liverpool's away form isn't good enough.
5. They don't do well enough against the better teams.

They have some decent players sure but that's not enough. You have to have the desire and the fight to go out and beat teams week in week out, their away form is nowhere near good enough. Do you think Liverpool can eek out 1-0 wins like Chelsea and Man Utd do when things aren't going their way? Liverpool can't do it. After they beat Chelsea in the Champions League they went on to lose to Fulham the week after, that just shows how up and down they are. When they are good, they are very good, but when things aren't going to plan they are absolutely awful. It's like Gasquet, on paper he is amazing and when he is playing well he can be unbeatable but he's just too inconsistent.

Benitez doesn't have the pedigree of Mourinho or the aura and experience of Ferguson. Liverpool will be there or there about in 2, maybe 3 years but not this year, no way.

I heard a fact that in Benitez's time at Liverpool he has only got something like 5 points out of a possible 40 or so against the big 3 teams (Chelsea, Man Utd, Arsenal)... says it all really.

NFL: Patriots

NCAA: Florida (young, but TONS of talent) if not in '07...should be pre-season #1 in '08 for sure....Emanuel Moody will be a beast!

Honestly, I like USC or Oklahoma this year and Florida next year

Last year, I was a football newbie and first day I picked the Colts to win.

This year, I'm not going to watch football or ever again so I can keep my perfect record.

How can you predict the form of a team three games into a new season? With the additions of Torres, Voronin, and Babel, along with the likes of Kuyt, Crouch, Gerrard, and others, I'd say Liverpool have more than enough firepower to compete. And as for form against "better" teams, Liverpool should already have a victory over Chelsea, and you know it.

As for the knock against Rafa not having the "aura" to win the league, how good has Mourinho's "aura" been when guiding Chelsea into Champions League play? Just because Rafa hasn't won the league yet, doesn't mean he can't. The bloom is off the rose, and whatever luster the "Special One" had is faded...

Wow, what a gutsy choice. If it were "real" football, then the same one or two teams wouldn't be winning it every year. More like FIXED football...(err...soccer). Now, back on topic...

NFL- The Autumn Wind is a Raider....

They should have won that year, but played the gameplan that Gruden built...Of course they'll lose to Gruden and Tampa Bay.

A football prediction? I predict the N.F.L. will have another overly long dreary seldom competitive year followed by a ridiculously over hyped super bowl.
I also predict many criminal defense lawyers will be able to send their kids/wife/mistress to Europe for a nice vacation based on the fees some thug players will have to shell out in order to stay out of jail.
(Go U.W. Huskies) btw.

are you guys actually picking teams that will win or just telling us what your favorite team is, because a lot of these picks are ridiculous.

NFL: Pats no doubt. Solid defense, excellent coaching, and Tom Brady AND RANDY MOSS. Nuff Said. If the Patriots get stunned because they're in the tough AFC division, then look for a Broncos and Eagles matchup, provided McNabb stays on the field.

NCAA: USC. They've got wayyyy too much firepower for anyone to even touch them. Look for the winner of the SEC to meet them in the BCS game.
As far as rose bowl goes, I'm hoping for and looking at a Michigan and Texas matchup. They're both my favorites, but I hope Texas pulls it out in the end since I want to go there to college with Michigan a close second!

Lol you honestly think Liverpool are going to win the league? I mean.. honestly? Gerrard aka the poor mans Lampard, Torres who has never been prolific, you think he's going to get 30 a season like Drogba does? Even in Spain he only managed 12-15 and that's in Spain!.. Liverpool don't have enough yet, plus the team don't know how to win the league. They lose to teams they shouldn't and it's just not good enough.

Gerrard dived to get a free kick against Aston Villa on the opening day, which they scored from. If he didn't they would of lost points. Decisions even themselves out through the course of a season and Chelsea deserved a draw with their dominant display in the first 30 minutes of the second half.

What you on about with the Champions League? Mourinho's already won the Champions League, same as Benitez. Chelsea lost on penalties in the semi finals last year (a lottery) and lost to Liverpool last time with a goal that was proven to of not crossed the line (a decision that meant a whole lot more than the penalty last week). Also Baros went in with his foot raised to Cech which is a free kick.

Heres proof: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79FOSVZiiGE

Chelsea had won the league that season and put everything into every game whereas Liverpool got nowhere near so had players ready and rested, same goes for this year where Chelsea were still fighting for the league, the FA Cup and had already won the Carling Cup... Liverpool were nowhere near in ANY of these conpetitions.

Benitez doesn't know how to win the League, yet. He might get closer this year but can you imagine him going head to head with Chelsea or Man Utd at the end of the season? They don't have the experience to get the job done.

So football is only football if a different team wins each year? Wow Phil, i'm used to you knowing what you are talking about and making valid points. Having an off day?

NFL - Philadelphia Eagles - Unlike the Falcons we don't base our entire team around ONE player.

QD -- did you happen to watch the last pre-season game against the Steelers.. It was quite ugly. I'm an Eagles fan, and I'm getting nervous!! :)

NFL- The Autumn Wind is a Raider.....
Indeed. And just like the "Autumn Wind," the Raiders blow. :)

Barclay's Premiere League (that "other" football): Derby County to destroy Manchester Utd., Manchester City and Chelsea is sucession. Any bets?

Well, football is actually 22 guys on a field, in pads and helmets. That wasn't my point, though. The Premeir League is incredibly boring and basically only two or three teams have a chance in hell of winning it. So, my congratulations to you for "going out on a limb" and choosing one of those two or three teams! English football needs a salary cap, badly.

Nope I didn't catch it. I'm down south now so I rarely get to see the games. Don't get nervous, you can't base the season on pre-season games.
