i just got mine in the mail today. havnt wrapped it yet but so far it looks awesome. i used to use gamma leather.

i;ll apply it to my racquet and give a small comparison to gamma.

stay tuned!

btw, its 22mm (width) x 1300mm (length) x 1.3mm (thickness)

if u've got any questions, i;ll be happy to answer them if i can

Interesting. I didn't know TW had their own brand of leather grip. Who is making it for them? I really like the idea of two different thicknesses and two different widths, as well as the lack of branding.

I suggest they add some more colors, such as black and white. I'd like to be able to buy some new white leather grips for my Puma Becker rackets which came with white leather grips originally -- plus white overgrips seem to be pretty popular these days, so maybe white leather grips would sell too.

okay, i;ve put it the leather on my racquet. i hav 2 racquets, one with TW leather and one with Gamma leather, both are 4 and 1/2. here are the comparisons:

  • even thought TW lists their leather as tan, its actually more of a brown while gamma leather is a golden yellow
  • gamma leather is tackier
  • the TW leather is definitely thinner. at least 1/8 grips thinner than Gamma
  • gamma is a touch bit rougher in texture while the TW is a bit smoother
  • the gamma is also wider. when wrapped on the handle, gamma measures @ 21-22mm while TW measures @ 19-20mm
  • perhaps its because i chose the thinner version and the Gamma being stretched, they seem to be the same in terms of firmness

these are all the comparisons i can think of right now. i;ll answer any question i can. if anyone else has TW leather, all your comments and comparisons are welcome.

IMPORTANT: THE GAMMA LEATHER HAS BEEN THOROUGHLY STRETCHED WHILE THE TW LEATHER HAS ONLY BEEN VERY SLIGHTLY STRETCHED. I'M GONNA WAIT A FEW WEEKS BEFORE FULLY STRECTCHING THE TW LEATHER.

yea, the plain leather with no branding looks awesome. a black leather would also be good

Which thickness did you choose?
Please compare that thickness to the Gamma you're used to using.

i chose the 1.3mm thickness and 22mm width. it is definitely thinner, even though the Gamma has been well stretched

is it thinner than babolat leather...?

sry, i havnt tried babolat leather, i might get it in the future for a comparison but im not sure yet

My major question: does the color bleed onto over grips? I like flipping mine.

from my experience with leather (gamma, and shortly wilson), i believe all leathers bleed slightly when u first get them. after awhile tho, they stop (atleast the Gamma leather did, didnt hav Wilson too long). i;ll wrap an overgrip on and see if it bleeds

Excellent, thanks.

I've had the same experience, except any tan grips besides fairways & head calfskins bleed pretty bad.

a black leather grip would do nothing but turn your hand black...thats why leather grips are natural....
There have been plenty of rackets that came stock with a black leather grip. The early Dunlop Max 200G's come to mind. My neighbor had an old Head aluminum racket that came with a black leather grip. You can also buy a black leather grip from Klipper USA (link). I've never seen a black leather grip turn anyone's hand black. I've never used a black leather grip extensively (I've tried out rackets with black leather grips), but I've owned black leather gloves and they never turned my hands black.

I doubt that most tan-colored grips are natural anyway. Natural is usually lighter, and there would be a good deal of variance in color from hide to hide. And brown grips are definitely not natural color, and those don't turn people's hands brown (they never did with me anyway).

Yep, natural does not mean that it hasn't been finished or processed.

ok diredesire, i put on a white wilson pro overgrip. i havnt been able to actually hit with it yet but i;ve taken quite a few swings and serves @ home. i;ve also twirled the racquet handle in my hand and tried rubbing the grip against the leather. so far, i dont see any signs of bleeding @all. but i wont know for sure until i get to hit with it on an actual court which wont be for some time.

That's fine, I know how things get busy. I've been dying to get my stringing videos out the door, but i've been swamped. The real test comes with the sweat and rubbing from hitting.

I have a couple of black Fairway grips from about 10 years ago -- no probs at all with color bleeding, hands turning black, etc.

ProStaff Legend ,Do you "too much" bewels for a thin version?
I want to order a thin version but still worry it's gonna be way too thin.

Sometimes when the replacement grip is too thin, the bewels are also too "sharp" and might hurt your hand.

Do you have that kinda problem?

i havnt had any problems with the belevels being too sharp. it could depend on player preference tho

btw diredesire, i went for a 3 hour hitting session. the leather has yet to leave any color on the overgrip. just an update

how heavy is the TW leather grip?

i have ordered the thinnest and wider model, full length came to 26,8g...
after cut and trim to m-fil 300 handle is 24.3g.
babolat leather cut and trim on dnx-10 mid handle is 23.07g, while wilson is 22.6g

Would the thicker TW leather still have more of a bevel feel versus synthetics. I want more bevel feel versus synthetics but don't want to decrease the grip size by getting the thinner TW leather grip. And wouldn't the thicker TW leather provide a little more shock absorption that leather normally takes away

TW leather is just as good as babolat and wilson...i bought the thinnest version, and love it...it does not increase the size of my grips... nothing beats the leather, as i can feel the bevel more than any synthetics....
the only downside is , it is about 10-12d heavier than synthetics....
thicker leather will not only increase the weight, and it will make the grip size bigger

Is the thinner version thinner than the Babolat and Wilson in your experience? I would like to reduce the size of my grip a bit if possible.

it is difficult to said which is thinner... because it depends on how much you stretched it when you installed the leather..... i have "thickness guage equipment, i will test it on the weekend, and inform you......

Does the TW grips have beveled or tapered edges to overlap the grip when installing or is it best to install with no overlap so it lays flat on the pallet

i have checked with thickness guage , tw(thinner versions) its the thinnest, than wilson, and the thickest among 3 is babolat.....

Thanks for the update. Sounds like a grip I should look into. My leathers hold up OK, except for around the buttcap area. I'm not exactly the most careful with my gear on the court. (I'll toss a racquet onto my bag when switching frames, etc). I need some new leather ;)

Just put them on my racquets, I should have taken pics but I put overgrips on them already. They are a little darker than the pic on TW if thats important to you, they do have the sticky surface to adhere to the pallet. I bought the 1.3mm thin ones and once on, my grip feels thinner versus having the Gamma Hi-tech. Haven't played with them yet. They feel great so far and really brings out the bevels

Can anyone comment on the durability of the grip?

I love leather because they last forever.

____________

BTW, I think if you get the thicker 25mm version, it will be lighter because you'll end up wrapping less grip around your handle overall. Or am I talking from my butt?

I think Gamma increased the gripsize to 1/8 larger. I have reverted to synthetic leather from Gamma Leather, now my handle reflects the actual size of 4 3/8 rather than the 4 1/2 that it was with Gamma Leather.

There was a 10gm differences in weight too after I changed to the synthetic leather.

I am wondering why TW leather is heavier than the Wilson or Babolat since TW leather is thinner and broader?

Anyone?

Thought I'd post a couple of pics. The TW grip is 25mm x 1300mm x 1.5mm.

First pic - the actual color is not as orange-y as it looks here. (Dunlop tennis ball can there for color comparison.)

Second pic - Wilson SV Fairway grip for comparison. Color of TW grip is more true to life here.

LH, it's a Graphite Pro Series 110 from the '80s. The text on the frame says:

(C) 1986 Prince Mfg., Inc.
Constructed of a combination of Graphite and Fiberglass
String Pattern: 16 Mains/19 Crosses. String Tension: 65-80 lbs. [Yikes!]

18mm beam width (yummy!) -- nice hitting stick.
