Head Comp Pro and Graphite Pro

These two mid-1980s rackets make an interesting comparison. I have the MIA versions from '86-87 I believe. The GP was around $120 whilst the CP was $80, and we know from adverts that the GP was 80% graphite to the CP's 60% graphite. Both are very high quality constructions with 'aircraft grade' lacquer and Fairway grips. Mine are very similarly specced around 362g strung, 33 balance. The latter feature does give them a beefy feeling compared to other rackets with similar weight, which is a bit of an issue over long sessions or serving. However, both feel comfortable with good power and control from their 18x20, 89.5sqi stringbeds (1.15cm2 average cell size). Comparing the two, I have to say I prefer the Comp Pro. The GP definitely feels more solid and powerful, but the extra bit of flex that the CP has increases the dwell time, which gives you a feeling of more control. My estimate is 55 RA for the CP, compared to about 60 RA for the GP. Moreover, I feel that the CP is less polarised, whereas the GP feels a bit more clubby. That may just be my versions, but I definitely find my CP more manoeuvrable. Both of mine had what looks like the original SynGut that was still taught. Usually, I prefer sticks with the higher % of graphite, particularly Wilson and Prince classics, but in this case I think the 60% graphite version is the better layup.

I love a good ol 'racing stripes' style paintjob. Are these Austrian or AMF made frames? And how do the grommets hold up?
Both Made in Austria. Grommets are perfect and feel fine. It seems a specific shade of creamy white are the ones that self destruct most.

She also had a head magnum before or after which also didn’t help
I would like to try the original Magnum one day that was 100% fibreglass, even though they changed it quickly to have some graphite. But I do wonder if the 25 and 35 do serve a more useful purpose today, as a source of grommets for the Edges and Pros. They seem to be the dark grey/brown variety that last.

@Grafil Injection here is the second versions of the Comp Pro and Graphite Pro.
I used the Graphite Pro in 1987. The white grommets mostly disintegrate but then there are some survivors for some reason that I can’t explain.
Yeah, my Hot Edge's (MIA) white grommets are fine.

After a third hit with the Comp Pro I'm putting it firmly into my 'Honest 80s Rackets' category of frames that just seem to do exactly what you want with no nasty surprises. It joins the Dunlop Black Max and the Prince Precision Graphite Series 90.

I think you’d also like the green 1988 Elite Pro.
