Shipping costs - levels of price?

I have an intl. order which when it is $233 USD the shipping is $48.

However if I add one of your very own and might I say rather nice TW 6-pack bags it puches it over $240 and the shipping blows out to $62.

Adding a $7 item should not add $13 postage.

So I will forgo the bag of course... shame.

Are there certain dollars levels at which point postage increases? In other words are there tiers in the postage based on price?

If so where are they mentioned on site?

I'm still going to enjoy my order... thx

I'm pretty sure all air shipping is based upon total weight and not cost of your order. I mean you could probably order a lot of natural gut strings which would come out to a high price but the shipping wouldn't be so high because it's relatively light. On the other hand, you can order a lot of cheap books, shoes and/or bags and the total weight can add up quick and so will your shipping charge.

i'm not so sure that is the case. i just compared shipping costs for 3 racquets vs 8 shirts. the 3 racquets and the 8 shirts work out to approx the same dollar value. you'll agree that 3 racquets and cases weigh more than 8 shirts and certainly would require a larger box for shipping. with USPS moving to volume based dimensional postage rates 3 racquets should cost way more than 8 shirts.

guess what - the shipping cost was exactly the same. i think TW should be a little more clear on how it calculates international shipping costs.

You'd be suprised how much 8 shirts weigh. And 3 racquets don't really weight all that much. The average racquet is only about 11 oz. And TW doesn't use USPS for most shipping, as they prefer to use UPS. In any case, USPS only charges a surcharge for oversized boxes and a box for 3 racquets is still within their base charge limits.

i have a few minutes between laundry loads so:

1 racquet with case = 701g x 3 = 2103g. deduct a few g for a lighter racquet. say 2000g total.

1 adidas climalite crew tennis shirt sz L = 200g x 8 = 1600g. add a few g for packaging, etc. say 1700g total

cost to me before shipping is the same. still a 300g difference. shirts are lighter. box is smaller. should be cheaper.

keep in mind we are referring to international shipping. rules are probably different than US shipping. would still be interested to hear what TW says about this.

In fact, it's international shipping where weight is of the most importance since it's all shipped by air.

Within the U.S., we pay $5.95 regardless of weight or total cost of order because it's shipped by ground. :D

it should be the weight that determines cost but it looks like that isn't the only factor.

re: US shipping - I take advantage of that every year when I am in Florida

Heh heh, nice idea, a sort of class-action buy. I agree that sort of buly buy can be good but there would be just to many logistical problems I'd imagine.

I don't order from overseas that often unless there's something I really want or cannot get. Don't you prefer to support your local tennis shop? As long as the premium isn't too much? Or for convenience?

In this case TW's shall we say "long-running" SALE on shoes (which has been going since mid year?) got to me as I wanted an item I have not seen here or at that price. Plus the AUD is strong at the moment.
