just curious how many of the guys here are out for blood on the mixed doubles court, personally, unless were just head and shoulders better than our opponents (or unless its just for fun) I always take any short ball I get straight at the woman, and it almost always backs them off the net

Don't peg ladies! They talk too much so you will get a very bad rep fast. Be nice when playing mixed.

I dont try to peg anyone in any doubles match, I just hit it as hard as I can in a certain direction with the hope that it's not coming back. But if they happen to be in the way, that's their partners fault most of the time for setting me up.

I only played 2 mixed matches this year and in one I accidently hit the lady twice. She was a good sport about it and gave her partner (who was setting me up with the weakest sitters you ever saw) a good earful.

A better topic would be "How many of you leave your female partner out to dry by giving your opponents an easy put away??". (or you could just put "your partner" in there, that's just as bad)

If my partner hits a weak ball that were to set my opponents up for an overhead that could easily be pounded right at me. I will turn around backwards and duck, rather than try to be a hero and get pegged in the process. On one side of the coin, if the female mixed partner is standing up at the net without the skills to back it up and can't anticipate that she is now at risk of being a target, then she is asking to be pegged. On the other side, I think its bad sportsmanship to intentional try to peg someone, even if you want to do it as a way to back them off the net.

Why do you assume the woman won't be able to handle it? Even if she wasn't able to, wouldn't the challenge lie in hitting it to the better player and coming out on top?

I don't know what level the OP plays at, but at 3.0 and sometimes 3.5, the woman often has poor volleys and just stands in the front of the service box the whole time.

What exactly to do you mean by "pegging" the woman?

There's a player in our area that is known as the "womanslayer", and it's pretty much because if he is playing mixed doubles, he's sleeping with his partner. And this guy has had A LOT of mixed doubles partners. ;)

Why don't you rename this thread to: "Who here acts like a jerk?"

I hate it when people act like this, it just reinforces the idea that tennis is a pansy sport, and generally when 3.0 women play mixed, they do have poor volleying skills (atleast against 3.5-4.0 guys with good groundstrokes) and stand right on top of the net to compensate, which makes them an easy target for short balls

I played my first 8.0 mixed doubles match this past week in over 10 years. During the 2nd set, I stretched for a high volley that was barely within my reach and hit it back down at the net person but did not control the shot very well since I was stretching for the ball. I hit our female opponent right between her eyebrows! There was a round, red mark on her forehead. I was about 3-4 ft from the net and she was on the service line. I apologized, but she still seemed upset about it. I did not know what else to say or do except to say "sorry" to her. It is fair to say that I have been known to lose control of my forehand and overhead when I hit it hard sometimes, but most guys can handle it or even if they get hit, there isn't much stigma about it. I just hope that I can avoid it in the future.

cant' understand why anyone would ever get upset after being hit in the head.

Hhmmmm... where I live hitting a 3.0 woman with a ball in mixed when you are a 3.5 - 4.0 man isn't the definition of "manly" and failing to do so, isn't the definition of being a "pansy".

I guess it is different where you live...

Most of the time it's the ladies fault for getting pegged.
She stupidly decides to stand in an aggressive position inside the service line practically on top of the net, while her partner meekly returns a poach sitter and she then complains about copping one in the boobs.

Cry me a river.

I love pegging women they call me the womenslayer.

If I have the open court in front of me. I'll still try to peg the lady in the head.

Of course. Sometimes I will try to gun my serve at the woman at the net (always a surprise). If it hits her, I argue for the point (while she is dislodging the ball from her eye socket.......so funny).

If I am playing singles, I aim at women in the crowd (just for a laugh).

When I play mixed basketball, I drive as hard as I can at women and challenge them to take a charge (usually with my feet flying in the air like Karl Malone used to do).

Hell, while driving down the street, I try to hit women on the sidewalk.

This thread makes me laugh, it really does! :)

There is one heck of a double standard in mixed. In practice, I hit an overhead really hard and it nailed a 3.5 dude right in the chest. I am sure it hurt; he was rubbing it for a while. I apologized (it was an accident, of course). He was OK with it. But everyone would have thought him the bad guy if he had hit me.

I have no idea what my 3.0 sisters are thinking half the time in doubles, though. They see the net player poaching or going for an overhead, and they just STAND THERE. Dang. I even yell, "Watch out, Susan!" and still she just stands there. I guess everyone has to eat fuzz before they understand.

Anyway, the standard here seems to be that male players go after the woman in mixed if (1) she can volley or (2) they are losing. Hey, if you can chase the woman off the net and get them playing two back, then you can keep the ball away from the man entirely. If there is a big disparity in their skills (a 3.0 woman with 4.0 guy), this is clearly what you do.

You don't have to take her head off, though. If you pass her down the alley or hit dippers right at her, she will miss if she can't volley and will beg to play two-back.

For me, the most important thing to do when playing mixed is make those early volleys in the match. If I can get them to respect my volleys and leave me alone, they are left to duke it out with my partner.

i don't intentionally go after women, especially when they can't help themselves. however, i think it is part of the game if someone gets hit, and don't feel bad about it or anything.

I'm not going to lie: I don't intentionally think "I'm going to peg the woman at the net" but It's not like I've not hit the net player,If I get a short ball I want to finsh the point off or set-up a finish. I don't think "yasss peg 'em" It's the same with an overhead, If I'm really strethching/reaching I'm not going to be able to see any movements made by my opponents so I just hit it as hard as I possibly can again If I hit them, I'm sorry it wasn't intentional but they're playing against me, If I hit them I'm obviously going to apologize (alot) but their playing against me, I don't try peg them but it happens, The best I can do is apologize. Maybe I'm a jerk maybe not.
