*****THE OFFICIAL HEAD PRO TOUR 630/280 Club*************

People are paying the crazy $$$ becuase they come on to this forum and read how "amazing" these frames are and how they are "God's gift" to tennis etc. etc. etc. and that if you have one you will play like a pro becuase all the Head pros are using the PT mold under the pjs. ****! We need to just shut up about them and stop the hype -becuase most people willing to pay >$250 for a single frame probably never grew up playing with them to begin with, can't really appreciate the frame, and don't know how else to blow their $ wad in any better way -leaving all the purests saying: "damn, I can't believe people are paying that much," and without their beloved frames. Unless of coarse you are like: "I have 1000 of these in my closet and will never sell them, so don't even ask, even though I have a 1000 of them and you don't ha ha."

In conclusion: if you have never played the PT -don't. It sucks and the new technology is light years better than that out-dated pos PT. Go with the microgel line, its got gel in it, and you won't have any problems finding it locally. Besdes the pros pj frames are just molds of the PT -not the same weight, balance, or flex of the PT that was made available to the public. Save your money and stop buying into the hype ;)

I agree I never meant for the price to go up that high and for that I apologize if I praised it, if I wanted for the price to go that high, I do have a stash I would be selling them right about now and make tons of money. But I just want everyone to enjoy this frame and now we are all stuck. I agree the Microgel Prestige MP is very similar when I get mine I would give a detailed review.
Okay, I will let the cat out and share my wealth of info and experience. For those who can not get the PT630/280, check out the Dunlop Muscle Weave 200G 95. It's very close and you don't have to take my words for it. Just do a search and read some of Michael Chaho's past findings comparing the PT630 to MW200G 95. Stop paying ridiculous prices for old used racquets! jeez!

Tesk even the MW200G is hard to get, yes I agree it is a nice frame as well,

They were selling the Pro Tour 630 at **** tennis on Monday, they sold out now... missed my chance...
Huh Monday try Friday noon

Just curious, does the PT690 count in this club?

Also, if anyone has hit with the PT690, can you comment on it? Thanks!
I sold a new PT690 to alex tandayu, it is nice, me thinks I was agassis frame of choice

Are these the pj frames or old blue stock version?
yes they were

^ I asked this earlier in this thread and Michael Chaho said it was the blue stock version...

asked roman, he said they might be able to get some in, even if he does I am not going to spend $350 for them I will be buying matched MG prestige MP from TW

Michael,

have you ever hit with the Volkl C7, and if you have could you compare it to the PT 630.

All of the characteristics people describe in relation to the PT i have found with my C7's.

I have noticed a shortage lately, people are just not selling fearing they will not find a better frame ( low to no supply) coupled with the weak $ people are buying them like hotcakes in the UK, Euro, Asia, HK etc....

Today chinese made Head retail at $180- $199.

PT630 was made in 1995 for about $160 or $170?

US Dollar today is at weak point

And I have been looking for new PT630 (grip wrapped in plastic) for the last 12-months, only found two so far, and it was less than 250/each

A spankin brand new, never strung, never used one is on sale on that famous bidding site. Guess the starting price. $295.00

They are coming in on Friday?... They said that the Pro Tours were 225$ each..

not sure but if $225 then that is a fair price,

The place I told you about in Germany had a $250 sticker price from the Mid 90's, it had lots of dust on them, were not selling and everyone wanted the latest so he discounted them for me big time

Did Snoflewis decide to leave so I am #11?

not sure he should check in and let us know

starting $299 buy it now $399, go tandayu go:-?, it is not even a PT630 but a PT280

Not to worry he sold three excellent PT280 for a total of $365 when he could have gotten $900. he is out $500 so he is try to make it up with this one
Ha! I pity the fool who falls for that price! (... and I envy the seller too.)
well if **** is going to have them for $225 why bother paying $400

That one on e**Y for $299 is not even the real PT630, it is the latest batch of Austrian PT280. The picture on the cartoon board is Wheaton not Muster

Just got off the phone with Roman. He had eight and one guy called, dropped a few g's and bought all eight of them in 1/2 hour. If this is not hoarding I don't know what is? if he is a board member please come forward with your prize:twisted: OR maybe we will see them on the big auction for big $:(

He said he will be contacting Head in Austria to see if they can make some more. He did not sound too promising. Not looking good.

Haha...$400 bucks for a PT280? This "downthetee" fleabay seller is on crack! I've encountered this guy on fleabay bidding before. He's one of the guys on TW Forum. Anyone knows exactly who this is?

Like I said, people who drop $$$ for a classic racquet is going to be in for a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT! It's not like you have an orgasm every time you hit the ball. Funny how you can hype things up on this forum. Man, I am tempted to list some of my PT280's for easy money.

As for ****, that dude who dropped a few grands was on crack too. Just wait until the new Microgel comes out and no one would drop $300 bucks for a PT630 or PT280.

Hey Michael, if you get a chance to talk with Roman at **** again, perhaps you can tell him to send some Head agents to read this forum so they know how much demand there still is for the Pro Tour. So, maybe they would have another special release like the PC600.

The price will never going down, but will always go up. People here maybe thinks the price is out of the world, but having been on flea bay for 5 years, there are demand from different part of the world.

The trend is upward. Now maybe slow down due to winter, wait until summer it will go even higher. And then there will always be newcomers wanting to join the bandwagon.

Hoarding? maybe, but the fact is , I can't find the item

Sure, maybe it will go up, but once it reaches a certain level, no one is foolish enough to buy one for $500 bucks even if it's brand stinking new. Unless, maybe the very few who has deep pocket and gullible enough to buy into the HYPE and pay that much for a freaking racquet.

Well, for the one who is hoarding the racquets, either you are collector or someone who wants to flip them for a profit, obviously. Shame on you greedy bas_tard(s)!

So, let's see who is the FOOL that is going to pay $400 bucks for brand new PT280 on fleabay. I'll bet no one is going to pay for it!

BUt you are right, nobody will pay $299 for that fake PT630 on fleabay. I mean fake PT630, because it is actually a PT280 with bumper guard from the factory, but the seller misled potential buyers by adding a cap grommet from LM prestige MP.

PT lead tape set ups?

Okay. Following recurring issues with hitting a bit short and with the serve being slightly too underpowered, I think I'm going to throw in the towel and get out the lead tape (which isn't something I usually like to do at all.)

Just wondered then what ppls experiences were with lead tape and the Pro Tour... any recommendations for me as regards tape and adding power I suppose to my serve and groundies (BTW, I'm not very knowlegable about lead tape positionings, etc.)

So what are you stringing the PT with now and at what tension? Also, does your PT have CAPs?

I personally like the PT stock with only adding a leather grip to it. I think the balance is right for me as it's not too HL or HH. If I typically add lead tape it's usually at the 3/9/handle positions to gain a bit more stability. Other people like putting it at the 12 or 10/2 to make the sweetspot higher in the stringbed. So the question where are you hitting in the stringbed? And based on that you can decide where you add lead tape (given you want to keep the strings and tension the same).

I'm going to Miami day after tomorrow and I'll buy a digital camera just for fun. I don't have one. The new tchnologies scared me. I'm from the past.
But I still work out almost every day for the tennis and stretch 1/2 hour before and 20 minutes after my daily practice. It's a sacred ritual in every tennis practice.

AND I'LL NEED TO USE MY NEEEEEWW CAMERA, MAAANNN.

So I'll take a picture of a couple of Gustavo Kuerten's PT 280 with a long cap groumet and I'll put the photos in this board for the Guga's fan watch the rakets with his name wrote in it.

I add lead only at 12 to increase swing weight/balance/and power. I play at around 5 points head light. If you want more power, just string it at around 50lb. For me if I string anything higher than 52, it plays like board. My PT630 all got CAP.

So in your case, just mess with the tension first and go lower. Do yours have CAP? If they don't, put some on and it will be super stable and give you more power, of course.

Has anyone tried pt 630 stung w/ 18g or 17g kevlar hybrid , how is the topspin? what is yr tension?thanks-d

Yes, I tried Forten Thin Blend 18 (kevlar/synth) hybrid. Kevlar main @ 47lb / synth cross @ 50. At the end of each hitting session, the balls were destroyed! You basically got MAD spin, more than poly! The whole setup played, to my surprise, very nice and soft with pocketing effect! The only problem was string movement, which does not bother me; and power level was really really low. You can swing out all day and the ball wouldn't go long, but your opponent will pound it back though. Maybe putting gut on cross to increase power, but I don't want to waste my gut on cross. :) Any guinea pig out there?

We were talking about PT630's, NOT PT280, being sold out at **** because one greedy dude snagged all 8 of them or something like that. He dropped a grand or two. Go back and read the previous post.

As for the MG Prestiges, I guess they would be sold out by now. Just wait a month and get them cheaper here at TW.

Because he is more likely to flip them to make a profit since he knows that these are hard to get. While if I really needed some to try, I would maybe just buy 2-3 to play, but not try to make a profit. And leave the rest for other people to try too.

Look at the housing bubble. People who bought more than one houses with the intention of flipping them which is one of the reasons why housing became un-affordable to potential hard working and prudent family. Those flippers fit the meaning of greed. And look at the **** they are in now. :)

Everyone got some greed to certain extent I guess.

Paying 1000 $ for ANY frame (except maybe for frames from the personal stash of a pro you absolutely love...) is simply stupid except if you have Bill Gates's budget. There are too many options out there for anybody to pay 1000 $ for a tennis racket.

agreed. however there are these maniacs who pays 900+ for new PS85 SV. And it seems as if the PT 630 and PC 600s are going on the track of the next PS 85 SV..., especially if HEAD no longer makes them to public and after 10 years guess how much a brand new PT 630 will go on the flee-bay...

There are people who are successfully very wealthy in millions or billions, so I do not think they are stupid. Paying $1,000/frame for them is pennies. I know a friend who always spend about a grand each time at TW just for tennis clothing

you should try Ashaway 18g cross fire http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/descpageACASH-XFIRE18.html
get rid of the cross 16g and install any cheap 18g in the cross, you want power go with Bow 18g or biphase 18g, you want economical go with gosen OG 18g $3 for the cross. make sure you get extra new tennis balls since there will be no more fuzz left on them.

Just wanted to join the club. After 9 years of my 630s collecting dust, I have picked the game up again. These rackets still feel better than anything else I've picked up, Er... I mean they are heavy and worthless.

You can sell 6 to me and keep 6 for your son, and you still can stock up for life on MG PP, just in case. You might even buy again at lower price from ****.

I will stop buying rackets afer getting these 6, the search is over. If you decide to sell, lets keep it private and communicate via e-mail.

That's the stuff :)

The CAP grommets are almost impossible to find right now -but TW should be getting some in January. You can use the iPrestige version, but they are a little light compared to the LM prestige version. However, this can be a good thing if you are looking for room to customize the frame with lead. If you are looking for the regular bumper guard grommets, I know the radical bumper guard grommets work, but they are a little "wide" and hang over the edge of the frame a bit. Just know that any of the Head prestige or radical MP (98si) grommets are pretty much the same drill pattern and can be used interchangeably. The only concern is the width of the frame the grommets were originally designed for. The PT 630 is a 20mm beam. Good luck -and welcome to the club! Michael Chaho will send you your membership card and secret handshake info in the mail after you send me the $100 processing fee and a couple of your PT630's to confirm you are a valid PT630 holder ;)
