Greetings Sydneysiders...
Let's all get together and be merry and have parties/bbqs/other social activities and of course TENNIS!!!!
Melbournians will have to set up their own chapter, i'm sorry but unfortunately in the 21st century teleport travel isn't available yet...
I'd like to have our first meeting sometime in January cause im sure too many people are busy with christmas/family stuff.
So c'mon OrangeOne/others...
Let's DO IT!!!!

If anyone wants to come from Country NSW/Interstate/Overseas,
that's fine but this chapter is intended PRIMARILY for Sydneysiders..

So, somebody, anybody... can we agree on a venue/meeting place?

Hells yeah, we're getting a little bit of a gathering going here. Sorry i haven't replied, been away for the holidays. I'm in the inner-west sorta area. We should post what sorta level we play at too, that might help. I reckon i'm a 4.5ish sorta player - but easily intimidated :)

Doesn't it drive u nuts when you remember some girl that you used to flirt with but totally screwed it up with in high school?
Well I've been going thru this ever since i found this girl on Facebook.
Tracked her down and spoke to her mother (i think) left name and phone number...
Waiting on phone call...
ARGH!!!

Hyper, let me give you some advice in all seriousness. Don't wait around for the phone call. If this girl hasn't seen you in years, she probably won't call anyway because she may not remember you. There's no need to stress over something as petty as a phone call. If she calls, then great, take it from there. If not, don't stress, it's simply not worth it.

After thinking about this, I'd bet that she would remember me...
After she broke my heart after i worked up the courage to ask her out in yr 9, she started to flirt with me again a year later or so...
Then in Yr 11 she asked if I could forgive her and if we could go out.. and i refused, out of pride...
The regrets of a wasted youth...

How do you know she's not married by now? So many things could have happened since then. With so much time having passed, don't you think it's time to give someone else a try? As the farmers say, don't put all your eggs in one basket.

Skinny chicks couldn't have had children? Come on, dude. How long has it been exactly? The reason you don't want to get hung up on any 1 chick is because she might have hooked up with someone else, she might not feel anything for you anymore, or she has other interests (career). The more time that's passed, the less of a chance you have so keep that in mind.

Yes well I had a hit with daddy.dirtsurfer and hoons...
Both seperately since dirtysurfer had to do stuff in the afternoon..
Was pretty humid, then it just got hot and humid..
Was about 30degrees C and at least 90% humidity...
Drank about 2 litres of water and didn't go to the toilet until some time later...
So it was a challenging day after not playing for almost a year.
I played pretty average/rusty, thanks guys for the practise.
Hoons and i practised and also played a rather... uneventful practise set.
Now i just need to work out a plan/path to get back to my old self...

Good to see there's a Sydney chapter starting up, I'm in the Inner West myself, around Leichhardt. I'm off to Melbourne in a week so I'll definitely pay more attention to happenings here when i get back.

I usually go to Haberfield Tennis Centre, they have about 10 synthetic grass courts there that are in pretty good shape. Every now and then my friend and I splurge and go out to the Olympic Centre courts for a hit.
I'm glad there's some meetups being organised around these parts finally, I'll do my best to get to them as often as possible, good times ahead!

Woot Sydney!!! Yeh!! I'm in the lower North Shore area and it is a real social tennis area with very very few serious players. I go to uni really really far away though so i'm only here during uni breaks. On the bright side. There is an indoor tennis centre near my uni and its a really nice place with good players and the indoor courts are sorta a novelty in the metro sydney region. It does get really cold though in rural NSW which is a pain :cry:.

Looking for some regular social tennis for some decent practise...
Maybe when we get enough numbers we can settle on a venue and have our own social tennis get together...

I've never really strayed too far from the courts that are just over the road from my house, up here in Hornsby.
I'd be willing to travel for a decent hit, though. I'm so sick of this crappy synthetic turf/sand surface that all the courts around here have.

Hey Basiljunk - Tood Woodbridge hates artificial grass, but it's what we all have to play on isn't it, I agree with you 100% and don't think it's actually any good for developing anyone's game but it's all we have isn't it??? Yeah Hornsby isn't a dynamo still at least its' affordable...

Yeh I thought indoor courts in the country were pointless too until winter came and frost and ice were everywhere in the morning and it gets crazily cold. Now I can see why the Americans have so many indoor courts in comparison to us.

And I agree with the synthetic grass being terrible but it really is all we have around here. I would prefer a legitimate hard court or clay court over them any day of the week being the baseliner I am. The other thing about the synthetic grass courts is that all of them seem to play at different speeds. I've played on one that was so fast it felt like grass (there are grass courts in a centre near my place but its kind of a novelty) and another that was slow and the ball bounced quite high so you really dont know what to expect until you actually start playing on it.

Artificial grass...
  • Doesn't take spin well
  • Is (usually) too fast to help people learn to construct a point
  • Doesn't provide good grip
  • Wears unevenly
  • Is often installed poorly / maintained poorly so it bunches or lumps or rips
  • Is bad if you fall on it (often burns you instead of just scraping)
  • Has inconsistent bounce
  • Is annoying due to the sand
  • Absorbs sound
  • Is inconsistent to slide on
... it's solitary good point, is that if it's installed well...
  • it drains well after rain, and is playable sooner than 'most any other surface.
I hate the stuff, and yet I too spend my life playing on it, as we all know, almost every court in greater sydney is covered in it!

Well... You guys haven't come across the newer brands of synthetic grass?
Evergreen is pretty good, not sure where they're using it...
But the courts@ Primrose Park in Neutral Bay are pretty good..
Fast, take to slice well, low bounce..good grip..
Courts@Moore Park look similiar too.
