Yeah and Roddick is playing like crap...or would that be Roddick is playing like his normal self? I really don't know anymore.

Roddick breaks in the second. Yelling like a madman over hawkeye technical difficulties. After which he yells out "MENTAL DIFFICULTIES"!!

That A-rod, as sharp as his backhand!

Roddick will never shut up, you all whine about him more than he whines.

Roddick smokes him in the second, I hope you're all crying.

Calling someone out on consistently acting like a jerk to your fellow human being is not whining.

It is because he's just playing a sport, which many of you forget. Just because it's an individual sport doesn't change the fact that he's competing. You can't hold him to how he acts on court, you may not like it but a lot of people seem to actually hate Roddick as if he bullied them all through junior high.

He's just an athlete.

So because he's playing a sport he can act however he wants? That simply makes no sense and is merely an excuse. Plenty of tennis players deal with the ups and downs without baselessly ripping on people who have nothing to do with their own problems. I think that is one thing that should be made clear...Roddick's losses and problems are HIS own fault. They are not the linespeoples, nor the umpire's faults. Yet he yells, curses and throws belligerent fits as if they were.

This is disgusting behavior that should not be tolerated. The umpire merely informed him that the hawkeye had a problem when he wanted to make a challenge so the original call had to stand. After the game (which he won anyway!) he just sat there and verbally abused the umpire. It wasn't even an argument! He just went off on the umpire, ripping on him for something that had absolutely nothing to do with him.

So the excuse is "but he plays singles tennis"? I don't buy into that, not one iota. Roddick acts like an @$$ for no good reason, and that's just the bottom line.

Viktor!

I love Viktor. He graciously lost and still goes to sign autographs to the kids. Not many others do this. Nice play by Viktor.
Congrats to Andy and his fans.

Yes, but I am sure he is not getting bombarded by fans to sing autographs. It's still a new thing for him. So win or lose he's going to do it.

Roddick just probably hit the shot of the tournament at 5-4 second set. Unbelievable single handed bachand flick, as he was running chasing a ball benhind him. Class!

Good win for Roddick!

Yea I just finished watching it. He said he didn't even see the shot but he heard the crowed so he figured it was in. What a shot by roddick!

over hyped? America accepted a long time ago that Roddick is not going to be the next great American tennis player.

over rated? how is he over rated, he's been top 10 longer than anyone on the tour right now (except Fed perhaps) and yet there is such a large group of Roddick hater who won't give him any credit because he yells at chair umpires when they make stupid calls.

interesting.

no the bottom line is roddick acts like an ass when he plays tennis. I'm not trying to convert you as a Roddick fan, it just strikes me how vicious people on this board are when discussing players they dislike.

I can see why some people might not like how he acts on court but they call him a "jerk," "*******," etc. etc., actual insults. don't you realize you don't know this man at all? I'm not making an excuse because I don't need to, Roddick is playing a sport and yes, he can do WHATEVER he wants when he's playing as long as he's not breaking any rules.

you don't have to like him as a player but don't act like you have the right to judge him as a person.

Yes we do. Why not? I simply depise him as a player and a despicable human being. His antics and behavior are far bellow acceptable for a tennis player and a sportsmen. His game is pathetic and boring.

haha ok see look how upset you're getting.

you just called him a despicable human being?

I'm starting to think the reason tennis is declining in popularity is because the fans are unbelievably rude.

Still, Roddick is way more rude.

Tennis is declining in popularity in the US only, not the whole world.

And the reason for declining popularity in the US is that instead of great champions and characters like Sampras, Agassi, Courrier, McEnroe, Connors, ... you have someone like Roddick.

Haha alright. Yes, I realize it's in the US.
but still... you think Roddick is a despicable human being.
I just find that funny I guess, that's all.

Well, you may not like it, but he is. Look at the today's match or the match against Kohlschreiber from the AO and you should realize why.

no.
what country are you from? perhaps this a language issue, because unless you've hung out with Roddick and he stole money from you and cheated on your sister then I don't see how you can judge him as a person. he's constantly donating to charity, how can you call him a despicable person?

by all means, call him a poor sport and rank on his game all you want, but don't call him despicable.

Well 'despicable' might be a too strong word, but I keep my right to judge players character based on their on court and other public behavior.

roddick isnt overrated he just suffered from the burden of playing in the same era as federer. If you look at the overall picture roddick has managed to stay in the top ten for quite awhile hes been to two finals where federer owned him and a couple of semis. If you compare him to other slam winners like safin, hewitt and moya who are all out of the top ten than roddick seems fine. He jsut needs to make some tweaks to his forehand which hes been doing and hell be back in the top 4. I can safely sayh that federer in many ways ruined roddicks game. Roddick in the 2005 made some tweaks to his game to hang with federer that only made him game worse in the long run. Im glad hes getting back to his old form.

Hold on there... McEnroe and Connors are great champions and characters.... while Roddick is RUDE? Hellooooo.... have you seen McEnroe when he was on the end of what he deemed a wrong line call or umpire decision? Seems to me that this does not quite gel....

Yes, but at least McEnroe had a game. And he is not a jerk Roddick is.

So you mean if a player has a game, he can then proceed to berate umpires and ballboys/girls, lines judges, fans etc?? Oh well, I guess if that is your view...

gj011

No that is not my view. McEnroe and Connors despite bad behaviour and antics had certain style and charm. Roddick is simply a jerk witn nothing positive about him.

Just my opinion.

What a brilliant shot from Roddick in that last game. Shot of the tournament. It was a scrappy win for Andy but I'll take it. He'll play better as he moves through the draw (I hope).

Roddick will never shut up, you all whine about him more than he whines.
Ain't that the truth. I've learned that TWer posters are far bigger whiners than any player currently on tour.

No worries. He will lose against Tsonga or Federer, if not before.

If Federer is in good form he'll take Roddick out no problem but I'm not so sure about Tsonga.I'd favor Roddick against Tsonga it they meet.

I said this during the 2006 U.S Open, and I'll say it again now; yes, Roddick acts like a jerk to the umpires on a fairly regular basis. Yes, he does deserve to get called on it.

The average amount of vitrol directed at Roddick, however, would make one think he kidnapped and ate babies as a pastime.
