another Rate This Guy video

PacificLife Open?

Anyway, I would rate this poor guy maybe a 4.5. LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!

If he wanted to be rated higher, he should have been moving his feet more.

Come you yellow-belly thin-skinned whiners, bring it on. Bunch of panzies. Where are you little cry babies.

are you serious with that comment? hes obviously way higher then a 4.5 if hes playing in the pacific life open. he is on tour and a pro tennis player. i sure hope that was a joke..

LOL, you have to be kidding me! He couldn't hit a backhand! And to think he was playing on a court at the Pacific Life Open. He must of snuck in on one of the practice courts and setup his camera real quick. It is all smoke and mirrors.

I am now lowering my rating to 2.0, I dont think he can move faster then my grandma. Come on, where are the closet coaches around here. You know who you are, I know who you are. Come on out, make your comments. Throw your little jabs. Bring it on. 2.0 is max no higher.

form is all messed up
can't even hit through the ball without whipping it so much

Haha wow. Are you kidding me? Didn't look like whipping at all. He's just hitting the ball normally. Please show me how YOU hit the ball if you seriously thought that was whipping at the ball.

Lol I know you guys are being sarcastic but you at least know who Kohlschreiberis right? Around 30 if I remember and I saw him play a match vs roddick where he hit over 100 winners and around 20 errors for the match. He won in 5 sets like 9-7 or something crazy like that. He hit around 30 aces and roddick hit 41 aces i think. It was one heck of a match. It was in the australian open I believe this year.

Nah, doesnt look like him at all. I think he just ran on one of those courts, set his beer down, placed his camera, and put on a mask that looks like Mr. K.

My rating stands: 2.0 :)

At first I thought those people walking behind him were recreational players. Then one of the guys helped feed the rally so I assume they were trainers.

I think I can beat this guy - NOT!

Nah, don't even waste your time rating it.

Okay seriously. More then anything, what you can take away from this video clip is how he grooves his stroke. He isnt going for winners, he isnt hitting angles, he is maintaining a consistent racquet head speed on both sides and is grooving his rally stroke.

The ball is traveling bascically at the same speed and consistency is the name of the game.

Just goes to show you how amateur camera work can make a player look really poor. I realize he's just warming up, but there are plenty of club level players who look better doing the same thing.

Any idea on Kohlschriber's forehand grip on this vid? Am I being totally wrong in suggesting a western?

I agree with BB about the grooving of the stroke. A large proportion of people seem to be obessed with lashing winners from all angles in these forums as if the (majority) of people in here at the usual club level score most points in this way.

Consistency of stroke is what I strive for!

LOL, I know.

Here is what is different about ths pros "warm-up" and some of the videos shown by posters here.

Posters Here
1. Inconsistent stroke pattern

2. Inconsistent stroke speed

3. Some strokes are framed or lack clean contact

4. Many strokes do not hit through the ball

This Pros Strokes

1. Smooth

2. Consistent stroke speed

3. Clean contact

4. Maintains consistency and rally's with one ball for a long time.

Even though this was warm-up, it was EXTREMELY clear this was a matured player. There were no "highlights" and overhitting in his stroke at all.

Bungalo bill can probably crush this guy with his eyes closed playing lefthanded!

I am lefthanded. ;)

Probably? Probably!

Try any day. In fact, I am going to stat working out and I will see him at the Pacific Open. I think John can get me to teach him a few things in the practice courts.

Not at all, I said "looks better", as in, more pleasing to the eye. Obviously Kohlshreiber would destroy any club/college player.

Case-in-point, I would say CAM187 from this board, around a 5.0 (or more) player, looks to have better looking strokes in his warmup vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6ETsMJKUbc compared to the Kohlschreiber warmup video.

i'd have to disagree. in kohlschreiber's warm up video, his strokes look much smoother and consistent.

Boojay,

Please dont take this wrong. But I think you are stretching a little.

Both players are well trained in their strokes. They are advanced to pro level players. However, there is a slight difference in the smoothness, racquet control, and ball control in the pros video that you might not be seeing.

It takes time to develop an eye for a beauty of a stroke. It is a lot like developing a forehand. You can spend time hitting a ball or you can spend time learning how a ball is hit.

I have spent time learning how a ball is hit and am probably better at it then hitting a ball.

On the pros video, it looked like he just woke up. I dont know what you know about this tournament, but I went to it many times. A lot of players stay at the Hyatt and then roll out of bed to go warm-up.

So, I agree with you that the player you showed has advanced strokes and is probably rated as you described. However, the pros strokes were a bit more smooth and his racquet speed was very consistent. There was a slight difference in this area.

Pleasing tennis strokes can be subjective to an extent, but seriously Kohlshreiber's strokes are clearly smoother than the video you put forward.

Not at all, BB. I'm glad to see you're capable of making such a mild post. And you're right, I don't have an eye for the stroke as you do, that was merely my opinion based on appearance alone (and with my current ability to watch a stroke). To me, Kohlschreiber looks like he's flailing and leaning too much (at least on the FH side), which is probably why it doesn't look as smooth to me. Mind you, I'm still learning to hit the ball properly and I realize he's hitting the ball at a significantly higher level than any of us.

Capable? Man youre tough. You haven't seen any mild posts? What about semi-mild? Or ones that have a little hot sauce on them? Just a little hot sauce, not much?

Actually post #4 was mild in our little disagreement. ;)

You can't possibly be offended by a non-threatening comment like that :p. And being called tough from someone who's the toughest of all is strangely gratifying.

Anyway, I know you keep referring to post #4, but I had no problems with that post, it was someone else who did. I never referred to any single post in particular as being "non-mild".

BB - quick question. in this practice session, federer looks like he's very upright. i know it's just practice but do you advocate bending knees and getting low every time? i ask because i play/practice very upright and sometimes bending my knees and getting so low feels sorta un-natural. thoughts?

Yeah, that is practice and warmup. However, I look at the knee bend and the air space between the heel from the ground together. If your heel is on the ground the majority of time, that is not good. Watch Federer on this clip.

I've actually been forcing myself to stay on my toes all the time the last couple of days while hitting. It's not tiring at all as I thought it would be. I remember hopping around all the time when I was trying to learn how to time the split step. Now THAT was tiring.

Agassi is the squater. He rides low. His knees are bent and his butt is down. Federer rides a bit higher but he does get down. So Federer is decieving.

He will lower his butt to the right level on balls that he needs to do so. club players will only lower so far when they should have lowered more. So most coaches say "bend your knees." It is to get the center of gravity (your butt) lower.
